Chapter 133: Dongfang Bubai’s Worldview Shattered Once More
The music faded, leaving only Yue Lingshan and Dongfang Bubai in the room.
Dongfang Bubai’s eyes were blank. It was not that she had unlocked some genetic inhibitor, but rather that her fundamental worldview had been shattered once again.
"This is my story? Impossible. My beloved concubine is not Shishi, and who is Xue Qianxun? How could I possibly fall in love with Linghu Chong?" Dongfang Bubai murmured.
"Sister, it is just a movie. Movies are derived from life but transcend it; you needn't take it to heart," Yue Lingshan comforted her, though inwardly she was ecstatic. Her own happiness was truly built upon the suffering of others. Recalling how her own worldview had been shredded when she first watched movies, she felt that even a leader of a great sect could not withstand the impact of such new concepts.
"But why is the Dongfang Bubai in this film identical to me? Not only in martial arts and behavior, but even the clothing is exactly as I once wore," Dongfang Bubai said, still unable to recover from the shock.
"Sister, how much do you know about the field of quantum space?" Yue Lingshan asked with an air of affected mystery, her eyes gleaming. She practically wanted to shout, "Stand back, I’m about to show off!"
"Quantum space? What is that? Is it a martial arts manual?" Dongfang Bubai looked astonished, her mind feeling like a bowl of mush.
"Actually, I don’t understand it either, but doesn't using these terms make one sound sophisticated?" Yue Lingshan said smugly. She recalled how Yang Xin had explained the concept of movies to her with an expression of utter disdain—the look of someone who couldn't explain winter to a summer insect—and it had made her teeth itch. Now, using the same words and attitude on someone else felt wonderful.
"Explaining it would take too long. Come with me, I will show you something, and you will understand," Yue Lingshan said. She pulled the bewildered Dongfang Bubai to her private chambers, took out a laptop, and played a movie she had pre-downloaded.
*The One!*
The movie was *The One*, starring Jet Li and Jason Statham.
"This is a film made by Westerners. The language is slightly different from our Great Ming, but you can grasp the meaning. Through this film, you will understand the concept of the multiverse and parallel dimensions." With that, Yue Lingshan pressed play, and the two began to watch with keen interest.
"These are the firearms of the Westerners? And their martial arts? Truly crude and inferior. And this is..." Amidst Dongfang Bubai’s constant exclamations, the movie concluded. Although still somewhat confused, she now possessed a rudimentary understanding of the multiverse and parallel dimensions.
Dongfang Bubai blinked and asked nonchalantly, "Sister, does your Xianyue Sect possess the ability to travel to other universes, like in the movie?"
"No, our sect can only travel within this world. Like tonight, the brothers from the Songshan Hall and Hengshan Hall used space portals to come here for dinner—that was a strict requirement from Grandmaster-Uncle Yang. After eating, they return to their respective halls. This ability was bestowed upon the Hengshan Hall by Grandmaster-Uncle Yang. Wait, I can’t explain it clearly. I’ll go borrow a Sling Ring and demonstrate it for you." Yue Lingshan formed a hand seal, sent out a Shadow Clone, and headed toward the Hengshan Hall.
Such a vital object as a Sling Ring would normally be impossible for Yue Lingshan to obtain from Mi Weiyi at the Hengshan Hall. However, Yang Xin had already given orders, and the clone easily secured it.
"You use such high-level ninjutsu for such trivial matters? Shouldn't it be used for combat?" Dongfang Bubai was stunned by Yue Lingshan's methods.
"According to Grandmaster-Uncle Yang, no ninjutsu should be used solely for fighting; it is meant to make our lives better." As she spoke, the clone returned.
"Let me show you how our sect handles long-distance spatial travel." Yue Lingshan put on the Sling Ring, held her left hand up with the palm facing inward, and drew a circle with her right hand. Moments later, a golden shimmering portal appeared.
"On the other side is the Songshan Hall on Mount Song," Yue Lingshan said. Dongfang Bubai looked through and saw the mountain, complete with patrolling disciples. The leader, Shi Dengda, had been struck by Dongfang Bubai’s beauty when he saw her in the canteen earlier. Seeing the portal open, he rushed over to investigate. When he saw Yue Lingshan and Dongfang Bubai, he prepared to shower them with flattery, but Yue Lingshan rolled her eyes and shut the portal immediately.
"Divine means, truly divine means..." Dongfang Bubai muttered, her worldview suffering another brutal blow. She now believed everything Yue Lingshan said.
Yue Lingshan handed the ring to her clone, who leaped away to return it to Mi Weiyi.
"Currently, our sect can only travel within the same world, but traveling between different spaces is not impossible..." Yue Lingshan said, dropping a bombshell.
"Oh?" Dongfang Bubai raised an eyebrow.
"Shattering the Void. According to my Grandmaster-Uncle, if you reach that state, it means you have broken through the limits of this world. You then shatter the void, opening a window to a higher realm and ascending," Yue Lingshan said, smacking her lips.
Seeing Dongfang Bubai’s vacant stare, Yue Lingshan, having experienced the same, hurriedly consoled her: "Sister, as one of the only two people in this world to have reached the Xiantian realm, you are clearly a genius among geniuses. You are a darling of heaven..."
"But advancing from Xiantian to Grandmaster, Great Grandmaster, and eventually Shattering the Void requires reaching a certain state of mind. That is something hard work cannot achieve; it requires opportunity. Perhaps your visit to Mount Hua is that very opportunity. Why not stay here and cultivate with us? You might have an epiphany at any moment..."
Under Yue Lingshan's persuasion, Dongfang Bubai remained at the Xianyue Sect. She cast aside her status as a sect leader and began cultivating like a new disciple. Under the subtle influence of her surroundings, she gradually grew to love this life. It was a novelty she had never experienced. Even better, Yue Lingshan gave her a laptop pre-loaded with countless movies and TV shows.
A few days later, Yue Lingshan discovered that Dongfang Bubai had become addicted to binge-watching—specifically, tear-jerking Korean dramas. The tragic storylines left Dongfang Bubai distraught, and in the blink of an eye, the mighty sect leader began her transformation into a shut-in otaku.
Compared to Dongfang Bubai’s newfound happiness, Ren Woxing, who had just escaped from the Meizhuang dungeon, found his life to be utterly miserable. The moment he stepped out, full of ambition, he was met with the harsh, merciless beatings of society.
