Chapter Ninety: The Eunuch’s? That Wouldn’t Be Impossible…
The eunuch costumes? The newcomers immediately looked skeptical.
A eunuch costume, seriously?
“Don’t dismiss it just because it says eunuch. Didn’t you see the others who came earlier all wearing armor and such? That kind of outfit is sweltering once it’s on.”
The shop owner walked over to the clothing rack and pulled out two pieces from the few that were hanging there.
“But think about it: what emperor goes out without a personal eunuch at his side? Put on the eunuch’s outfit, and then hold a ceremonial whisk.”
“Fine, fine! We’ll take it!” The fans agreed at once when they heard there was such a good deal.
Before long, two more personal eunuchs had joined Lin Ze from a short distance behind him.
The people on the roadside still did not know what was going on and thought a film was being shot here, so they stood around smiling and watching.
It was already past three in the afternoon, when the sun was at its fiercest.
Lin Ze glanced back. The fans behind him, the ones wearing armor, were already nearly done in by the heat.
The armor was not thick, but it was made of hard material. Several layered pieces hung on the body, heavy and stifling.
How foolish. There was no fan inside armor. How could anyone not be roasting while walking in it?
At the corner, Lin Ze saw a small shop selling ice cream.
“Everyone, come here.”
Lin Ze walked to the ice cream shop. “Hurry and take it off, all of you. Take a break.”
An old man came out from the ice cream shop. Seeing the crowd, he immediately chuckled.
“So many of you—how many do you want?”
Su Zitan glanced at the prices hanging on the wall.
A cone was seven yuan each.
“Grandpa, can you give us a discount if we buy a lot?”
“Ah... well, if there are this many of you and you all want some...”
The old man looked at the thirty or forty people trailing in one after another.
“I’ll give them to you for five yuan each.”
“Okay, Grandpa.”
Lin Ze took out his phone and paid.
Wow, Brother Lin is treating us.
I want to go too. I want to eat that so badly!
This armor already looks exhausting, and it’s not even made with authentic materials. Wouldn’t the actors filming in it be even more exhausted?
The fans who had followed along unzipped the tops of their outfits and let their clothes hang down.
The old man had already started making the ice cream. Once it was done, he wrapped the lower part with a tissue and handed it to Lin Ze.
Lin Ze held two ice creams in his hands and walked toward the two fans nearest to him.
He handed them the ice cream in his hands.
The two young men looked very young, probably not even out of college yet.
Their hair was already soaked with sweat.
Lin Ze reached out and touched the layer of clothing they wore. The armor was indeed not metal, but it still felt very thick, at least two or three times thicker than what he had on.
“You’re something else,” Lin Ze said with a sigh. “Aren’t you afraid of heatstroke?”
The two young men glanced with envy at the ice cream Su Zitan had handed out beside them.
“Brother Lin, can we eat the one Sister Zitan gave out?”
Lin Ze’s smile froze.
He picked up the ceremonial saber lying on the ground and, with one flick of his wrist, spun out a neat flourish.
“You traitor!”
The fans behind them burst into laughter.
Not to mention, that sword flourish is pretty standard. Looks like Lin Ze has trained before.
I may have the heart of a treacherous minister...
Li Xiyan and Chen Nan also helped hand out the ice cream.
There were still more fans here for Lin Ze and Su Zitan, but Chen Nan and Li Xiyan also had fairly good appeal among passersby.
“Not bad.”
Su Zitan held a vanilla one in her hand and curled her tongue to take a small bite of ice cream into her mouth.
Lin Ze nodded too. The ice cream was indeed very smooth and creamy. Come to think of it, five yuan wasn’t really expensive.
“My matcha one is pretty good too. Want to try some?” Lin Ze said, waving his cone in front of Su Zitan.
“Sure.”
Just as Su Zitan answered, Lin Ze lifted his wide sleeve to block them from view.
Then he took a big bite of the ice cream and leaned over.
“Ehh!”
Cheering came from beyond the sleeve.
“What’s there to cheer about over eating ice cream? Honestly.” Lin Ze lowered his sleeve without changing expression.
“Come on, let’s look at the photos.”
The two photographers were also reviewing the shots they had just taken.
Seeing the two bosses come over, the photographer held up the camera and let them look through the recent pictures.
It had to be said, these shots were really good, especially one in particular, which truly made it look as if thousands of soldiers and horses were arrayed behind Lin Ze.
“Let’s go shoot some two-person shots. We’ll leave them out for now,” Lin Ze said softly.
“Got it.” The photographer made an okay sign. “Don’t worry. I know exactly where on this street the best shots can be taken.”
Lin Ze stood up and waved to everyone. “Everyone, rest here for a while. We’re going to take some photos. When you’ve had enough rest, just follow the livestream to find us.”
Naturally, the fans behind them did not follow. After all, one should be a fan with boundaries.
“I guess Brother Nan is about to break into the top tier, huh?” Lin Ze asked with a smile.
“I wouldn’t dare think that far ahead yet,” Chen Nan said a little bashfully. “It’d already be pretty good to reach the quasi-top tier.”
Li Xiyan held onto Su Zitan’s arm. Since she was half a head shorter than Su Zitan, leaning against her made her look delicate and dependent.
“How is it? After spending half the day here, do you feel better?” Su Zitan asked with a smile.
“Much better, Sister Zitan.” Li Xiyan smiled faintly. Though her face still looked a little haggard, her spirit had returned.
“It’s fine. Life should be positive. Look at us—we’ve been mocked by fans stirred up by some bizarre thing in transition for so long, and we didn’t take it seriously at all,” Lin Ze said from the side.
“Huh? Is that something you can say on camera?” Chen Nan said from the side, hesitating.
Chen Nan really hasn’t seen enough.
If Brother Lin has a grudge, he basically settles it on the spot.
Found it. These two really did come on this show? Li Xiyan, what is she? She didn’t cooperate when she was invited to film my brother’s music video? And she even hit someone? What is she?
And this Chen Nan guy is ugly as hell. His trash song—“I’m a fine person like this”? What a shameless joke!
Suddenly, a flood of new comments appeared, but of course the people involved did not bother to look.
At that moment, the street scene was split into two sides. On the left, Lin Ze held a small folding fan and tilted Su Zitan’s chin up with it.
Su Zitan looked at Lin Ze with burning eyes.
On the right, Li Xiyan was tugging at one of Chen Nan’s fingers, making a big striding-forward pose, her face full of laughter, while Chen Nan held the prop sword against his chest with his other hand.
Just as the four of them were taking photos separately, a certain rap and electronic music prince posted on social media, telling everyone that a variety show of his was in the works and that he would soon be releasing a new song.
At the very bottom of that post, he also shared a photo of himself, pointing at his own face and saying his injuries had healed, using it once again to take a jab at Li Xiyan.
