“Oh dear, look at me forgetting again. Even though I used to work in Team One, I’m still everyone’s colleague.”

Zhou Zhizi patted her forehead and playfully stuck out her tongue.

She was cute and adorably absent-minded.

Everyone laughed good-naturedly.

Then Zhou Zhizi suddenly met my gaze.

“Sister Yanyan, are you happy?”

Under everyone’s watchful eyes, I tugged at the corners of my mouth, stood up from my chair, and extended a hand.

“Welcome to Design Team Two.”

“Thank you.”

Zhou Zhizi’s smile grew even brighter.

“We suddenly have two great beauties in our team. Looks like work won’t be so tiresome from now on.”

“Of course. Beautiful women are always a pleasure to look at.”

I had to admit, Zhou Zhizi was impressive.

In terms of appearance, the two of us were evenly matched. But her personality was better than mine, and she was much sweeter with her words. Back when she had been in Team One, she often dropped by Team Two.

She had won people over with fruit, cakes, milk tea, and candy. Now that she had been transferred to Team Two, it was even more convenient. In less than a day, she had already become one with the rest of the team.

For a while, all I could hear was Zhou Zhizi’s name.

“Zhizi, would you like some water?”

“Zhizi, I brought some pastries. Do you want one?”

“Zhizi, let’s have lunch together!”

“Zhizi…”

I was nearly growing calluses on my ears. I seriously suspected that by the time I went home, I would be dreaming about that name.

Only Can Can pouted. “Yanyan, why do I feel like Zhizi is a social butterfly?”

I couldn’t help bursting into laughter.

“What makes you think that?”

“I don’t know how to explain it. Look at how much everyone likes her. I used to like her too, but now she gives me a strange feeling… not a very good one.”

Can Can looked troubled, as though she didn’t know how to describe it.

I thought to myself that of course she couldn’t figure it out.

Zhou Zhizi really was cheerful, warm, and generous with everyone.

But if one observed carefully, one would notice that the people she deliberately approached were all men.

She knew exactly how to handle the opposite sex while keeping her distance from other women.

Yet she did it with such finesse that no one could easily detect it or catch her out.

As the sweet and rather naive girl who had been kept at arm’s length, Can Can naturally couldn’t understand.

She could only vaguely sense that something was off.

“It has nothing to do with us. Focus on your work.”

Zhou Zhizi was like a whirlwind, swiftly becoming part of Team Two.

Not only did she build good relationships with her colleagues, she also managed to make our supervisor, Cui Lu, treat her differently from the rest of us.

She came out of Cui Lu’s office looking delighted. When everyone asked what had happened, she said with a grin, “The supervisor has assigned me the A2 project!”

My movements came to a halt.

The A2 project was a contract the company had only recently secured. The client company was extremely powerful, and its requirements were notoriously demanding.

Our supervisor had previously asked everyone to give it a try, hoping to identify someone capable of handling the project.

In the end, we had all failed.

I hadn’t even had the chance to try, since I had only recently joined the company. There was no way the supervisor would assign such a project to me.

Yet Zhou Zhizi had obtained it after being here for only one day.

“I know I haven’t been with the company long, and my abilities can’t compare with those of my seniors, so I told the supervisor I wanted to find someone to help me.”

Zhou Zhizi looked straight at me.

“Sister Yanyan, would you be willing to help me?”

“I’m new here too, and I don’t have much experience in this area. I might not be able to help you. There are plenty of senior colleagues in Team Two. Why don’t you ask someone else?”

Regardless of how demanding the project was, working with her would be no different from making a deal with a tiger.

I could fall into a trap at any moment.

The moment I finished speaking, my colleagues eagerly gathered around us.

The project was a coveted opportunity, and everyone wanted a share.

But Zhou Zhizi lowered her head and put on a dejected expression.

“Does Sister Yanyan dislike me?”

She twisted the corner of her clothes, looking pitiful.

“Could you give me a chance, Sister? I actually like you very much. I want to work with you… After all, we’re both newcomers…”

Not again.

There was a strange charm about her, one that could make everyone else switch sides in an instant.

Sure enough—

“Mu Yan, why don’t you just agree?”

“Zhou Zhizi is giving you an opportunity by asking for your help. Otherwise, who knows how long you’ll have to wait before you can take charge of a project on your own, considering you’ve only just joined the company?”

“Exactly, exactly. If you do well this time, the supervisor will see you in a whole new light.”

I raised my head and looked at Zhou Zhizi.

“Are you sure you want to work with me?”

Zhou Zhizi nodded repeatedly.

“Fine.”

Just don’t regret it later.

Zhou Zhizi’s tears vanished, replaced by a smile.

She looked serene and adorable.

I was momentarily distracted. Suddenly, I understood Zhou Cheny an a little better. It was no wonder he had been blinded by her. Her acting really was excellent.

The male colleagues had already been completely enchanted, circling around her as though she were the only person in the world.

I knew Zhou Zhizi had ulterior motives, but wasn’t this also an opportunity for me?

If I wanted to gain something, I had to face the challenge.

Even if I knew there was a trap, I still had to step into it.

Because of the project, the two of us had no choice but to spend a great deal of time together. I observed her carefully, and so far, Zhou Zhizi was still working very hard.

Although I had no idea whether it was all an act.

But Zhou Zhizi’s presence meant that Zhou Cheny an appeared more frequently as well.

At one point, it became enough to give me a headache.

At lunchtime, Zhou Zhizi insisted on dragging me to Zhou Cheny an’s office to eat.

“You’ve lost weight these past two days. Eat more.” Zhou Cheny an placed food in Zhou Zhizi’s bowl.

Zhou Zhizi smiled shyly. “You’re one to talk, A-Yan. You’re the one who’s lost weight. You’ve been working late every night for the company. You need to take care of yourself.”

I lowered my head and ate furiously.

When I finished, I put down my chopsticks, picked up the documents Zhou Zhizi was using to pressure me, and turned to leave.

Zhou Cheny an’s expression darkened.

“You’re just leaving like that?”

I shot back, “What else would I do?”

It wasn’t as though I had to pay for the meal.

Watching them put on a display of affection was nauseating, but if it saved me some money, it wasn’t entirely unbearable. After all, I needed to spend my money where it mattered.

With that thought firmly in mind, I ate without the slightest hesitation.

The moment I finished, I ran.

The first couple of days were awkward, but before long, I had grown completely comfortable with it.

It was Zhou Cheny an and Zhou Zhizi who became increasingly strange.

On the first day, they had still been showing concern for each other. By the fourth day, they were no longer speaking at all.

I had no idea why, and I didn’t dare ask.

On the final day, I was in high spirits.

I was about to finish the last of the design work. I wouldn’t need to come here for meals anymore. Just thinking about it made me so happy I nearly jumped for joy.

But I never imagined that something would go wrong on that very last day.

I ended up in the hospital.

As usual, Zhou Cheny an had ordered the food, and all we had to do was sit down and eat. But something was wrong with the dishes that day. They contained something I couldn’t eat.

Crushed peanuts.

I had an immediate allergic reaction.

I suddenly collapsed in the office, frightening both Zhou Cheny an and Zhou Zhizi. By the time we reached the hospital, my back and arms were covered in dense clusters of red bumps. They itched so terribly that I wanted to tear off my own skin.

And even then, Zhou Cheny an still questioned me.

“You’re allergic to peanuts. Why didn’t you tell me?”

I stared at him expressionlessly.

Zhou Zhizi tried to intervene. “Brother, don’t be so harsh. Sister Yanyan probably forgot. She’s been working day and night these past few days. Don’t blame her.”

“If she doesn’t even care about her own life, what is there for me to blame her for?” Zhou Cheny an said coldly.

I endured the unbearable itch and replied, “I didn’t expect that a husband could forget that his own wife is allergic to peanuts.”
