After Lü Meng finished paying respects to Elder Ye, the matriarch led him to the study.

“Commander Lü, this time you brought troops to the Ye family—was this a personal matter or...?”

“I am here under orders!”

Hearing this, the matriarch's heart skipped a beat.

“Why would General Chu want to help the Ye family?”

“Does the Ye family not know the general?” Lü Meng was somewhat puzzled himself. He had been on a mission and was unaware of Elder Ye’s passing.

She feared that this newly anointed war goddess harbored even grander ambitions!

“Matriarch, after this show of force, I believe no one in Jincheng will dare lay a hand on the Ye family,” Lü Meng said as he rose. “My mission is complete; I must return to report.”

“Stay and rest at the Ye residence a while longer!” The matriarch hurriedly urged, wanting to show some hospitality.

After all, Lü Meng had just saved the entire Ye family.

But Lü Meng declined.

Military orders are like mountains; he must obey.

The Black Armored Army came swiftly and left swiftly.

Chen Fan noticed the matriarch’s deep worries and asked, “Grandma, after all that happened today, the four great families won’t dare attack the Ye family again. Why aren’t you happy at all?”

The matriarch sighed and voiced her thoughts, “You say the Ye family has no connection to this newly risen war goddess, so why would she help us so much?”

Chen Fan smiled; he thought she was worried about something else.

Apparently, she was puzzling over this matter.

He spoke, “Grandma, Chu Meng is my junior sister. She sent her men here just to curry favor with me! You don’t need to worry at all about what she might be scheming.”

Nearby, Ye Qingcheng overheard Chen Fan’s words and immediately scolded him loudly, “Chen, that’s enough!”

Chen Fan blinked in confusion.

How had he offended this lady elder?

“Do you have no shame?” Ye Qingcheng said angrily. “General Chu is an extraordinary figure—she is the youngest war goddess of Huaguo, revered by all the people. And you shamelessly claim she’s your junior sister here to flatter you? Is it just because you have a thick skin?”

The Ye matriarch frowned as well, feeling Chen Fan was boasting too much.

Still, she patiently said, “Xiaofan, don’t say that again. If it gets out, it will bring you trouble. The dignity of the war goddess must not be insulted!”

Chen Fan was helpless; everything he said was true!

Why did no one believe him?

As for the war goddess’s dignity—back on the mountain, little Chu Meng would serve him tea, wash his clothes, cook meals, and massage his shoulders and legs just to please him.

All those chores, they all fought to do them.
