Chapter 37: As You Wish
"Is it really necessary?"
Liang Yuxiu stopped in front of Wen Jianan. He looked at her as if he didn't quite understand, yet he remained willing to hear what she had to say.
Wen Jianan weighed her thoughts; she still believed it would be better to tidy up a bit.
"Whatever you say."
The words came out of nowhere. Wen Jianan had been about to walk away, but she couldn't help glancing back at him, and as a result, she was struck by the bottomless depth in his eyes.
Had this been in the past, it would likely have left her heart fluttering, overcome with joy.
But now, Wen Jianan merely pressed her lips together and gave a dry nod, offering no verbal response.
Li Ruoruo, standing in the corner, watched this scene, her eyes darting back and forth.
Back in Miancheng, when they went to a bar to celebrate winning a project, she had discovered that Wen Jianan and Liang Yuxiu were definitely more than just simple acquaintances.
Now, she was simultaneously entangled with Director Cheng from Quantum while keeping Wei Ming on a string.
A clever operator, indeed.
Taking advantage of a spare moment, Li Ruoruo quietly took out her phone, summarized the situation, and sent it to someone on WeChat.
Liang Yuxiu’s appearance, stature, and bearing drew constant praise even from the stylist.
It was her first time encountering a man like this; that aura of noble elegance surpassed even those in the entertainment industry.
The stylist couldn't help but remark, "Mr. Liang, have you ever considered entering the entertainment industry? I think you have the makings of a movie star."
"Not interested." Liang Yuxiu didn't even lift his eyelids.
The stylist let out a dry laugh.
Wen Jianan happened to be standing nearby. Hearing their conversation, she couldn't help but glance at Liang Yuxiu’s face.
He was indeed handsome; otherwise, she wouldn't have picked him out from a crowd all those years ago, only to become hopelessly lost in him thereafter.
Now, tempered by the passage of time, he was even more profound and cold—the kind of "iceberg" heartthrob that young girls would naturally adore.
Wen Jianan remembered that back in university, talent scouts had come to campus wanting to recruit Liang Yuxiu into show business, only to be rejected without hesitation.
Wen Jianan mused that, given the status of the Liang family, if Liang Yuxiu had actually entered the industry, his family would likely have turned upside down.
After all, when he married her back then, the Liang family had already been shaken to its core.
As she pondered, she became distracted, not noticing that she was still staring at Liang Yuxiu.
When she finally regained her senses and looked up, she saw Liang Yuxiu observing her through the mirror, the light in his eyes shifting with an indescribable depth.
Wen Jianan panicked and immediately looked away, her heart no longer trembling.
The exclusive interview began.
Wen Jianan had hired a professional host, someone well-known in the industry, skilled at conducting in-depth dialogues and discussions, capable of displaying a broad range of knowledge and unique insights.
Wen Jianan and the others stood outside the studio watching; the entire process was smooth and seamless, without a single error.
Satisfied with the results, Wen Jianan planned to hold a live stream for the entire internet once the Quantum product was officially released, and she intended to keep this same host.
After discussing it with Liang Yuxiu and Lin Li, Wen Jianan obtained his consent.
"I can cooperate fully."
For some reason, Wen Jianan felt that both the tone of Liang Yuxiu's voice and the way he stared at her carried a strange undertone.
She gave a vague response.
When Jiang Wenfei arrived, the group was huddled together watching the interview footage, discussing whether any parts needed to be reshot.
Liang Yuxiu didn't actually care much about such things, but he and Quantum intended to remain in the country for long-term development.
Wen Jianan argued from a professional standpoint that the image of both the brand and the company was crucial, as was the image of the person in charge, even if Liang Yuxiu had no intention of going public.
Liang Yuxiu stood just behind Wen Jianan, no more than a meter away. As she spoke, her gaze remained fixed on the screen, while Liang Yuxiu’s eyes remained fixed on her profile.
Since their reunion, he had always felt that Wen Jianan had become a complete stranger, totally different from the impression she had left on him in the past—even diametrically opposed. That was why, at first, he hadn't believed she could secure and manage this project.
Even when she had specifically emphasized it to him.
He hadn't expected her to shatter his preconceived notions time and time again.
She had become extremely independent and self-possessed, and this self-possession was a positive, upward quality, devoid of any derogatory meaning.
Thinking back, it was perhaps because he had never truly tried to understand her that his memories of her were so sparse.
Liang Yuxiu realized that when she was focused and dedicated to her work, she became radiant, making one want to stare at her greedily and involuntarily.
He thought this, and he did exactly that—so much so that when Jiang Wenfei walked through the door, this was the scene she saw.
Her smiling face stiffened instantly, and the warmth in her eyes faded with alarming speed.
"Axu."
Jiang Wenfei spoke abruptly, successfully drawing everyone's attention.
Wen Jianan realized what was happening and shifted away from Liang Yuxiu without a trace.
Jiang Wenfei walked over, saw the interview video, and began to shower Liang Yuxiu with praise.
"Jianan, you're really amazing."
It was a blatantly awkward compliment.
"It wasn't just my credit; it was a team effort," Wen Jianan replied in an equally official tone.
"Wenfei."
Liang Yuxiu, seemingly unwilling to allow further interaction between the two women, stepped in to interrupt Jiang Wenfei.
Wen Jianan took the cue and said, "Everything is finished, and there are no issues. Thank you, Mr. Liang, for your cooperation today. If you and Ms. Jiang have other plans, we won't keep you any longer."
This played right into Jiang Wenfei’s hands. She beamed at Wen Jianan, "We do have some matters to attend to. Since everything here is done, we'll be going. See you next time, Jianan!"
"Goodbye."
With that, Jiang Wenfei pulled Liang Yuxiu toward the exit.
Liang Yuxiu frowned deeply, though he didn't shake her off in that moment.
Once they reached the outside of the filming base and got into the car, Liang Yuxiu’s expression shifted, and the smile on Jiang Wenfei’s face grew less genuine.
It was as if a director had called "cut."
"What exactly are you trying to do?"
"I'm not trying to do anything. If your mother hadn't asked me to come, I wouldn't want to come here and make myself a nuisance."
Jiang Wenfei said coquettishly, with a tone of feigned grievance.
She was a person of many faces, so much so that Liang Yuxiu no longer knew which one was her true self.
However, Liang Yuxiu had no desire to explore that aspect.
He was silent for a moment.
"Our family's affairs have nothing to do with you."
Liang Yuxiu’s attitude was cold; he didn't want to say another word.
Jiang Wenfei wasn't bothered by the rejection. In private, she felt that whatever happened between her and Liang Yuxiu didn't matter, but in front of others, it was a different story.
"But you left on bad terms with your father and mother yesterday. Your mother is very sad. She asked me to come and persuade you, hoping you won't hold a grudge against your family."
Liang Yuxiu felt that even if the sky were falling, such words would never come from his mother’s lips.
He repeated his sentiment: the affairs of the Liang family did not require Jiang Wenfei’s interference.
