Two days had passed since the incident, yet Fedu had repeatedly failed to provide Quantum with a satisfactory explanation.

Wen Jianan finally understood that Wei Ming was deliberately stalling, intending to drag the matter out until the very end and push her out as the scapegoat.

Since things had come to this, she no longer felt any need to show him professional courtesy.

Wen Jianan contacted Liang Yuxiu immediately. Upon learning that Quantum had already commissioned an independent agency to investigate and gather evidence, she fell silent.

"Have you found any clues?" Liang Yuxiu asked.

Wen Jianan wanted to laugh bitterly. Clues? It was practically ironclad evidence by now.

However, she did not say it outright, only replying, "In any case, I will fully cooperate with the agency's investigation and evidence collection."

Fifteen minutes later, Li Ruoruo sauntered back tardily.

A rare expression of apology crossed her face. "I'm on my period. My stomach is a bit upset."

Wen Jianan glanced at her twice and offered a superficial smile.

A faint trace of unease flickered in Li Ruoruo's heart.

By lunchtime, Quantum still had not provided any feedback.

Wen Jianan was not the least bit anxious now, whereas Li Ruoruo was beginning to look rather unsettled.

Wen Jianan guessed that she was plotting some new petty trick.

However, the investigators from the agency arrived that very afternoon.

When Wei Ming received the news, Zhang Yufei had already greeted the investigators in the meeting room and assured them of her full cooperation.

At that moment, Wen Jianan was inside the meeting room, cooperating with the investigation.

Wei Ming knocked on the door and walked right in, attempting to interrupt them, but he was rebuked by the stern-faced lead investigator.

"Please do not interrupt!"

"I am the boss of Fedu."

Wei Ming introduced himself, but the investigators remained entirely unmoved.

"Someone will speak with you privately shortly. Please step outside now."

He was forcibly escorted out.

Through the glass door, Wei Ming saw Wen Jianan talking continuously with the investigators, and he began to panic.

It seemed the situation had spiraled out of hand and was no longer under his control.

Originally, he had intended to drag things out and pin the blame on Wen Jianan, regardless of her attitude.

Who could have expected that Quantum would commission an agency to intervene so quickly?

On the surface, Wei Ming forced himself to remain calm, but inside, he was frantic with anxiety.

Wen Jianan spoke with the investigators for a full hour. The moment she stepped out, Wei Ming immediately summoned her to his office.

He asked Wen Jianan what she had discussed with the investigators.

On the surface, he wanted to know if there was any progress, but in reality, he was probing to see if they had discovered anything.

Wen Jianan wanted to laugh on the inside, but outwardly she put on a troubled expression. "I simply told them everything I know. There hasn't been much progress yet; it might take some time."

Wei Ming narrowed his eyes in thought. "Actually, I think it would be best for everyone if you just took the blame for this."

For a second, Wen Jianan thought she had misheard. She couldn't help but laugh. "Best for whom? Besides, I didn't do it. Why should I take the blame?"

Wei Ming was momentarily at a loss for words, but quickly assumed the demeanor of a boss.

"Anyone with eyes knows you are the prime suspect. If you wait until they unearth it themselves, the outcome will likely be very ugly."

"The one who ends up looking ugly won't be me," Wen Jianan said with absolute conviction.

For some reason, Wei Ming felt that the look she gave him was piercing, as if she could see right through his soul.

It was deeply unsettling.

After a few seconds of thought, Wei Ming made a decision.

"I think it's best if you are suspended from duty first. Go home and wait for the results."

"Why?" Wen Jianan stood up abruptly, making it clear she refused to accept this.

However, Wei Ming's attitude was unyielding. After arguing with him for a few rounds, Wen Jianan stormed out of his office in a rage.

As she went to her desk to pack her belongings and head home, she ran into Chen Ling, who had just returned from an errand.

Upon learning that Wen Jianan had been suspended, her first reaction was to feel a sense of injustice on Wen Jianan's behalf.

Wen Jianan initially wanted to tell her about Li Ruoruo, but thought better of it and swallowed the words.

Holding back her indignation, Wen Jianan left the office.

On her way home, she received a message from Chen Ling, informing her that Wei Ming had not assigned the remaining project tasks to Zhang Yufei, but to Manager Zhang instead.

Wen Jianan simply replied that she understood.

Because Chen Ling's message arrived almost simultaneously with one from Zhang Yufei.

However, a turn of events occurred that very night.

Quantum's feedback arrived just before the end of the workday. Changes were required, but Quantum had provided explicit instructions for the revisions. As long as they followed the guidelines and polished the proposal, the project could essentially be finalized.

Wen Jianan had been barred from participating in the project, but she was still in the communication group.

After dinner, Chen Ling and Li Ruoruo were still working overtime.

Around nine o'clock, Wen Jianan called Li Ruoruo.

"Ruoruo, is Sister Ling nearby?"

"She went to the restroom. What's up, Sister Nan?"

Wen Jianan uttered an "oh" and said, "It's nothing much. When I left this afternoon, I forgot to log out of my work account on my computer. I wanted to ask Sister Ling to log me out, but her phone isn't going through and she hasn't replied to my messages. Could you let her know when she gets back?"

Li Ruoruo seemed to pause for a fraction of a second, and when she spoke again, the tail end of her voice was noticeably elevated.

"Alright, I'll tell her."

After hanging up, Chen Ling walked back, looking somewhat flustered.

Li Ruoruo did not mention Wen Jianan's call to Chen Ling, but instead asked with concern, "Sister Ling, what's wrong?"

"Ruoruo, I'm sorry to trouble you with the finishing touches, but my daughter just took a bad fall, and I need to rush to the hospital right now." Chen Ling clutched her phone tightly. Whenever anything concerning her daughter happened, she lost her composure.

After all, her daughter was the apple of her eye.

Li Ruoruo immediately expressed her understanding. "Go ahead, Sister Ling. Leave the rest to me."

"Right, just double-check the formatting and typos. If everything looks good, go ahead and submit it," Chen Ling instructed while hurriedly gathering her things.

Li Ruoruo agreed to everything.

Once Chen Ling left, Li Ruoruo reviewed the proposal document, confirmed that everything was in order, walked over to Wen Jianan's desk, and turned on her computer.

Half an hour later, Li Ruoruo left the office.

Early the next morning, when she stepped back into the office, the investigators were already there.

To everyone's astonishment, Wen Jianan—who had no business being in the office—was also present.

Li Ruoruo's steps faltered, and the coffee in her hand almost slipped from her grasp.

The investigators stepped forward and escorted her into the meeting room.

When Wei Ming received the news and rushed to the company, an hour had already passed. By that time, Li Ruoruo had already confessed to leaking the information to Xinhui.

She had nearly blurted out that Wei Ming had directed her to do it, but Wei Ming arrived just in time.

Through the glass door, he shot Li Ruoruo a warning glance.

Li Ruoruo froze in her tracks.

After hesitating repeatedly, she did not mention Wei Ming's name.

Wen Jianan felt no sympathy, only a sense of bitter irony.

Things had reached this point, and she could no longer stay at Fedu, even though the Quantum project had not yet officially concluded.

She formally and unilaterally announced her resignation to Wei Ming.

As for the remainder of the project, she privately entrusted it to Zhang Yufei.

If Wei Ming had any sense left at all, he would know that handing it to Zhang Yufei was far more reliable than handing it to Manager Zhang.

Before leaving, Wen Jianan was summoned to Wei Ming's office one last time.
