The moment Chen Wenhao heard that, his eyes lit up instantly—indeed, Captain Fu was formidable. They had been entangled with Xue Junping, that rogue scoundrel, for half a month and hadn’t gained a single advantage. But as soon as Captain Fu stepped in and spoke a word, everything came spilling out. No wonder he had risen to captain at such a young age—truly impressive.
He hurried forward. “As long as you confess properly, it’s not impossible to let you go.”
Xue Junping lowered his head, unable to meet the sharp gaze fixed on him. “It was Shen Wen. Shen Wen was the one who told me to do it.”
“Knock her out, drag her to my room, and do whatever to her... it was her idea.”
Chen Wenhao’s eyes widened in astonishment—there was even an unexpected twist?
Before he could react, the man suddenly turned his head like a madman and knocked Xue Junping to the ground with a single punch. Punch after punch rained down on him like a storm.
“Damn you!”
“How dare you lay a hand on her!”
...
Xue Junping was beaten nearly to death before three burly young men finally pulled Fu Heng away. Chen Wenhao trembled as he grabbed him. “Captain Fu, calm down, I haven’t finished asking yet. Don’t kill him.”
“We’ll take our time... take our time before hitting again.”
Tears welled in Xue Junping’s eyes as he coughed up blood. “I... I haven’t finished yet.”
“That woman fought like a beast. I didn’t get any advantage and got beaten badly.”
“The rubber band—that rubber band probably fell that day.”
Chen Wenhao asked, “Then, about the day Bai Xuanyuan went missing, tell us everything properly. Otherwise, if Captain Fu hits you again, I won’t stop him.”
Xue Junping was silent for a moment. Since he had already betrayed Shen Wen, he might as well tell the whole truth.
“That night was also Shen Wen’s idea. She told me to find three thugs to kidnap her to Miao Village.”
“But...”
Chen Wenhao crouched down. “But what?”
Xue Junping said, “It’s just that Bai Xuanyuan said she was willing to pay double, then the other three turned on me and knocked me out with one slap.”
“When I woke up, they were gone. I don’t know where they went.”
With the answer in hand, Fu Heng’s mood calmed down somewhat.
He had already made up his mind while beating Xue Junping.
Even if Xuanyuan was touched by another man, he would still care for her and love her as a husband should, for a lifetime.

That was his debt to her.
He only hoped she was still alive.
Without looking back, he turned and left.
Chen Wenhao escorted him out of the police station like he was seeing off a revered statue. Only when the car was far away did he finally exhale deeply.
Fu Heng hadn’t slept all night and rushed by car to the foot of Miao Village.
The roads to Miao Village were impassable, filled with treacherous mountain paths.
Halfway up the mountain, the road skirted a cliff. Having been sleepless for two nights, Fu Heng was somewhat delirious and missed his footing, falling off the cliff. Luckily, he grabbed a crooked tree branch on the edge.
With astonishing arm strength, he climbed back up.
The officers above were terrified, glancing out in disbelief, not knowing how he managed to scale such a dangerous cliff.
Fu Heng knelt down to rest for a moment, then stood and pressed forward.
Xuanyuan was still waiting for him, waiting for him to save her.
He absolutely could not die.
He and the local police climbed for most of the day to enter the village, searching house by house.
But after turning the mountains upside down, there was no sign of Bai Xuanyuan.
Seeing Fu Heng’s darkening expression, the police chief patiently communicated with the villagers, but everyone claimed never to have seen this person.
Fu Heng’s patience nearly ran out. He punched a large tree beside the road, smashing a huge hole in it.
Everyone present was too frightened to utter a sound, fearing he might suddenly attack.
He quickly descended the mountain, shaking off the local police, and headed straight back to Jiangcheng, pulling Xue Junping out of jail and landing several hard punches again.
Chen Wenhao trembled seeing this unlucky man return.
He put himself in Fu Heng’s shoes.
If someone came to his home and kidnapped his beautiful wife, well, he would at least break that person’s legs.
Xue Junping coughed up blood, cursing the couple endlessly inside.
They showed no mercy in beating, each punch worse than the last!
Fu Heng gripped his collar; his hollow eyes were like a devouring swamp, the whites cracked inch by inch.
“Last time I ask—where is she?”
Xue Junping’s face was covered in blood and tears, and he had lost a tooth. “The three took her away. I honestly don’t know.”
“If I knew, I would have said it earlier. You could have beaten me to death; I still wouldn’t know.”
Fu Heng slowly turned his head; his gaze was icy cold, as if looking upon a corpse. “Who were those three?”
Xue Junping wept helplessly. “I... I found them on the street. Shen Wen told me to just find people and not ask their names. I didn’t ask.”
“All I know is what they looked like. I have no idea who they are or where they’re from.”
The man’s knuckles tightened on his collar, terrifying Xue Junping into a breakdown of tears. “Please, please don’t hit me anymore. If you kill me, you’ll never find the people who took her.”

Chen Wenhao stepped forward to persuade, “Captain Fu, spare his life. Let him redeem himself.”
Fu Heng got up from the ground, walking back to the military compound like a living corpse.
Neighbors in the compound all avoided him.
Mainly because he looked terrifying—his wife missing, yet a chilling smile lingered at the corner of his mouth.
He collapsed onto his bed and slept for a long time.
In his dreams, he saw Xuanyuan sitting in front of the sewing machine as usual, bathed in warm light, smiling sweetly.
Seeing him return, she obediently called out, wrapping her arms around his neck and begging for a kiss.
He bent down, but his hands were empty.
Empty as can be.
He turned his head in terror, only to hear the door close behind him and Xuanyuan crying outside.
He kicked the door open and rushed out, but she was gone, the ground soaked with blood.
When he woke, his pillow was soaked through.
He opened the wardrobe and saw her clothes lonely and abandoned in a corner.
His heart felt as if invisible hands were tearing it apart, piece by piece.
He carefully sorted through her belongings, folding her clothes along with two pieces of his own that he hadn’t taken yet, one by one.
He meticulously searched and finally found a few small items he hadn’t packed, mixed in with her scattered belongings.
Just like before, when they were still together, before they parted.
He continued sorting tirelessly, torturing himself for an entire day.
Before leaving, he saw Xue Junping once more and, unprecedentedly, handed him money.
Xue Junping looked at him in confusion.
The man’s voice was hoarse. “Take this money. Build a shelter along the roadside on your search route and find those three men for me.”
“Otherwise, on this day next year, it will be your funeral.”
Terrified, Xue Junping nodded repeatedly, limping out of the police station to carry out the task immediately.
Now, he just wanted to find those three as quickly as possible. Seeing Fu Heng’s alternating tears and laughter scared him.
He truly feared that one day Fu Heng might burst into his home with a knife and chop him to feed the fish.
Fu Heng returned to the military dormitory, put down his things, and went home.
Sure enough, he saw Shen Wen wiping tears at the door.
Shen Wen saw him like a savior and ran over.
