Chapter 10: The Moronic System Wants Her Dead Again
Qin Fan nodded.
“Bai Lu has been the top student at Luan University for four consecutive years. In terms of talent, she’s even slightly ahead of me.”
“I heard her family background is quite influential, yet she has never relied on her family’s power—she’s defeated every student in the entire school purely through her own effort and talent.”
“Even I have to admire her resilience and determination.”
As Qin Fan spoke, an image of an extraordinarily gifted, proud yet rational, and diligent academic prodigy slowly took shape in Chu Qiao’s mind.
Someone like that must be constantly striving to improve herself, right?
Just then, the class bell rang.
Chu Qiao’s idiotic system chimed in at the right moment:
[Host, please begin cultivation.]
[Electric shock incentive countdown: 10…]
Chu Qiao: …
Qin Fan packed up her textbooks and turned to ask Chu Qiao, “What about lunch—”
She was stunned to see Chu Qiao already sprinting toward the door.
“I’m going to the library to study. I’ll just grab a piece of bread before the afternoon class!”
With that, Chu Qiao’s figure disappeared outside.
Qin Fan was utterly shocked.
Chu Qiao wouldn’t even waste time eating?!
No, this was the kind of hard-working attitude anyone should have.
It was Qin Fan who had become complacent—after all, the exchange competition was imminent, yet she felt no trace of nervousness!
“Order me a cup of coffee. I’m going to buy some bread!” Inspired by Chu Qiao, Qin Fan hurried after her.
…
In a seat at the northwest corner of the library.
Bai Lu, the reigning top student of Luan University, someone even Qin Fan dared not underestimate—a proud, rational, and diligent academic deity—was dressed in a hoodie, hood up, keeping a low profile as she silently observed a certain female student about five meters away.
On the phone screen resting on her table, a message from her senior—also the third disciple of the Divine Healer Lin—appeared:
“You said you were preparing for the exchange competition. Why are you suddenly observing students from Xintai University?”
“The students at that school can’t possibly put any pressure on you. Why waste time on them?”
Of course, Bai Lu was observing Chu Qiao—the imposter who was pretending to be her but performing even better than she did.
To know one’s enemy and oneself is to guarantee victory.
Bai Lu was thorough in everything she did. Even when exposing a fraud, she would first investigate everything about the impostor and then devise a detailed and flawless plan.
But such a humiliating matter was naturally not something Bai Lu would disclose to her senior.
She replied:
“You don’t understand, senior.”
“What I’m doing now is not only fighting for my own reputation but also for the countless potential victims!”
---
Her senior truly did not understand.
He couldn’t fathom how observing an ordinary university student related at all to those profound, inscrutable principles.
Still, he never dismissed his junior sister’s feelings:
“Then good luck.”
Bai Lu closed her phone, her expression grave as she fixed her gaze on Chu Qiao five meters away.
In the middle of the day, this imposter was not eating but diligently studying in the library!
With such dedication to her studies, it was no surprise she knew about the Seven Insect Gu poison.
Just then, Chu Qiao suddenly stood up, left her seat, and dashed out quickly.
Bai Lu was taken aback.
Shortly after, she saw Chu Qiao returning swiftly, carrying two cups of takeaway coffee.
The urgency in her movements seemed as if losing even a second of study time would be fatal!
Seeing this, Bai Lu couldn’t help but feel a flicker of admiration.
Such a passion for learning?
Not even she, who was already extremely diligent in her studies, could match Chu Qiao’s intensity.
Because of her own family background, Bai Lu held a special kind of respect for those striving to change their lives through their own efforts.
…
Chu Qiao finally placed the coffee down on the table just before the system’s countdown reached zero, hastily picking up her textbook again.
She was nearly shocked to death—almost got an electric shock for exceeding the time limit!
Wiping the cold sweat from her brow, she glanced around in puzzlement.
For some reason, she had felt like someone was watching her ever since a moment ago.
There were few people in the library at noon.
The student to her left was studying intently; the one on her right was revising a paper carefully.
Another student in the corner had their head down on the table, seemingly asleep.
It must be her imagination.
Scratching her head, Chu Qiao shrugged it off and prepared to continue studying.
Suddenly.
The system’s voice sounded again:
[Detected two liquids in front of the host.]
[Please prepare poison according to the system’s formula and poison one person.]
[This is a side quest; completing it will grant experience points for the Poison Mastery skill.]
This idiotic system was trying to kill her again!
Chu Qiao felt her heart drop. She opened the Poison Mastery skill and noticed a new dropdown button had appeared somewhere.
Clicking it, the page switched to a second one.
---
A poison named “Laxative” slowly appeared at the top line.
This must be the poison formula the system had given her.
But laxatives…
Chu Qiao didn’t know whether to feel sad, angry, or burst out laughing.
Is this even worthy of being called poison?
Without hesitation, she immediately prepared the laxative and poured it into her own cup of coffee.
The system only said to poison one person—it never specified who.
Poisoning herself should count, right?
Chu Qiao felt like she’d found a loophole in this system’s task.
From now on, whenever there was a poisoning task, as long as she had poison in one hand and antidote in the other, she could complete it without harm!
Chu Qiao gently swirled the cup, waiting for the laxative powder to dissolve fully in the coffee, then prepared to take a sip.
Qin Fan suddenly came running over, out of breath.
She placed the bread she’d bought on the table and without a glance, grabbed the coffee in front of Chu Qiao and drank it all in one gulp.
“Exhausted!”
“There was a huge sale at the supermarket today. If it weren’t for my experience in these things, I wouldn’t have stood a chance against all those elderly people.”
After her small complaint, she noticed Chu Qiao staring at her in stunned disbelief, as if the sky had fallen, and frowned.
“What’s wrong?”
Chu Qiao didn’t know what to say.
Qin Fan drank too fast; she hadn’t even had time to stop her.
“Qin Fan, are you… okay?” Chu Qiao asked cautiously.
Because it was just a laxative, at worst it would only cause a day of discomfort, so the system didn’t provide an antidote.
Qin Fan frowned.
“I’m fine…”
Her words faltered, then her eyes widened in disbelief as she pointed at the coffee and then at Chu Qiao.
“Chu Qiao, this coffee… you… you actually—”
Before she could finish, she dashed toward the restroom.
Chu Qiao was left tearless and speechless.
Later, if she told Qin Fan she had just wanted to try some laxative for a change of flavor, Qin Fan definitely wouldn’t believe it.
How on earth was she going to explain this to convince Qin Fan she never intended to harm her?
In the corner seat.
Bai Lu put down the phone that had recorded the entire video, her round eyes icy and terrifying.
The faint admiration she had felt for Chu Qiao moments ago had completely vanished.
