Volume One, Chapter 14: I'm an Experienced Traditional Chinese Doctor—You Can Trust My Technique
“What’s going on here?”
Su Jing looked at Liu Dong with confusion.
Liu Dong thought to himself, Don’t just stare at me. You sent me to be your daughter’s boyfriend, and your daughter sent me to be your husband. I’m in a tough spot here. If I have to, I’ll endure a bit, make some sacrifices, and try to balance things out.
“It’s nothing, Mom. This is my classmate Liu Dong. He’s a really good person—excellent in character and academics, takes care of public property, follows traffic rules...”
Hearing Su Jinyao’s awkward flattery, Liu Dong was speechless.
“Did you just call him ‘Dad’?”
Su Jing frowned, not even listening to the rest.
Liu Dong sighed. Su Jing, you’re not even as sharp as your daughter. She installed a bug in your car, and you had no idea she had been calling me ‘Dad’ for days. Last night she called out so heart-wrenchingly, there’s no way you would have known.
“Yeah, I called him Dad.”
Su Jinyao seemed to sense her mother’s displeasure, but steeling herself, she pouted defiantly.
“Why do you call him that?”
Su Jing’s tone softened noticeably; she was too doting on Jinyao to be angry. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have paid Liu Dong to chase after her daughter.
“He’s really good, and there’s something very ‘fatherly’ about him.”
Liu Dong couldn’t help but interrupt.
“Ahem, Jinyao, you can say I give off a fatherly vibe, but ‘fatherly’ isn’t exactly a compliment. You’re already a college freshman; you should know the difference.”
“Mom, see? He’s quite cultured.”
“...”
“Alright, Jinyao, call him whatever you want. It’s all up to you.”
Su Jing said helplessly.
“Mom, you’re the best! Dad, you two keep talking; I’m heading upstairs now.”
With that, Su Jinyao limped up the stairs.
Once she was out of sight, Su Jing’s expression hardened.
“What exactly is going on? I asked you to be my daughter’s yes-man, what have you actually done?”
“Madam, you should ask around in the yes-man circle. Saying that insults my professionalism. I’ve done exactly what you asked. I didn’t expect it to turn out like this.”
Liu Dong spread his hands, innocent as can be.
“Did you hit her?”
Seeing Jinyao’s limp earlier, Su Jing worried Liu Dong might have hurt her daughter badly enough to cause this.
“Absolutely not. I swear on my honor. You can send someone to investigate. If I hit her, deal with me as you see fit.”
Liu Dong thought, Me hit her? She was the one who hit me yesterday! Heaven above, judge the just and unjust! Snow in June—this time, I, Liu Dong, am truly innocent!
“It really has nothing to do with you.”
“Ahem, really nothing to do with me.”
Now Liu Dong felt a bit guilty. There was definitely some connection, but he couldn’t admit it. Despite lying, his expression remained as upright and resolute as ever.
Su Jing looked at Liu Dong, who seemed like he could join the Party, and after a long moment, sighed.
“Ah, don’t blame me for being overly cautious—I only have this one precious daughter.”
“Of course, I understand. Jinyao is a good girl.”
“Ever since her father left, her personality has been very strange. The doctor said it’s because she lacked a father’s love growing up. If you can really give her that fatherly feeling, don’t stop. I’ll pay whatever it costs.”
“Madam, I admit I initially approached Jinyao for money, but now it’s not just about money... If my presence can make up for the fatherly love she missed, I’m willing to give everything to help her.”
Su Jing, there are many reasons—you just figure it out yourself.
“But I warn you, if I find out you bully Jinyao or have impure motives, I won’t let you off.”
Su Jing’s tone shifted between gentle and cold with ease.
“Rest assured, I won’t bully her; I’ll protect her with all my might. When she no longer needs me, I’ll walk away without lingering.”
Liu Dong felt these words were familiar—a template for a yes-man’s promise. He borrowed it directly.
The effect was clear: Su Jing’s impression of Liu Dong improved significantly.
“Good, that’s settled.”
The two fell into silence. With a sixteen-year age gap—Su Jing was thirty-six, Liu Dong twenty—they struggled to find common ground beyond Jinyao.
“Madam...”
“Call me ‘Jing Jie’ (Sister Jing) instead. ‘Madam’ makes me sound old.”
“No, no. Jing Jie doesn’t sound old at all. If it weren’t for Jinyao calling you mom, I’d think you two were sisters.”
“Is that really so exaggerated?”
“Not at all.”
Liu Dong wasn’t lying here; the luck of the female lead’s age was definitely a plus.
“Jing Jie, you don’t look well. Are you feeling unwell?”
Thanks to his Taiji Rejuvenation technique, Liu Dong had acquired some medical knowledge. Though not capable of miracles, common ailments were nothing to him.
Su Jing parted her red lips, her voice gentle but tinged with fatigue and worry.
“I’ve had terrible headaches these past few days, as if countless tiny needles are pricking inside my head. It’s especially bad at night—pain so unbearable I can’t sleep. I have no idea what’s causing it.”
“Then, may I take your pulse?”
“You know traditional Chinese medicine?”
“Well, Jinyao says I have a ‘fatherly vibe’—I’m an old-school doctor.”
Su Jing chuckled softly.
“Alright, then take a look.”
Liu Dong gently placed his fingers on the noblewoman’s slender wrist, careful not to overstep. A warmth spread through Su Jing’s heart.
After a long moment, Liu Dong spoke slowly.
“Hmm, Jing Jie, your headache is due to stagnant qi and blood, caused by liver qi depression and blockage. Long-term fatigue and lack of proper rest have disrupted your body’s qi and blood flow, igniting liver fire, which triggers the headaches.”
Su Jing was surprised; Liu Dong’s diagnosis was spot on. She had thought he was just humoring her, a young boy playing tricks. At her age, she’d seen all kinds of men, but she hadn’t expected him to actually know his stuff.
“What should I do?”
“I’ll prescribe a few courses of herbal medicine for you, combined with simple acupressure techniques. That will cure it completely.”
After speaking, Liu Dong picked up a pen and paper from the tea table and wrote out a prescription in earnest.
Su Jing took the prescription, photographed it, and sent it to the private hospital she sponsored, asking their most authoritative Chinese medicine doctor to review it.
Soon her phone rang.
“Chairwoman Su, where did you get this prescription?”
“Is there a problem?”
Su Jing glanced awkwardly at Liu Dong, who still wore a cheerful smile.
“No problem at all! The prescription is exquisitely crafted! After all these years of studying traditional Chinese medicine, I never considered this diagnosis. Who wrote this? Can we invite him to our hospital? I’ll give up my position for him!”
“Oh, it was a friend. Let’s talk about inviting him later.”
After hanging up, Su Jing felt a bit embarrassed. She realized it was rude to question the authenticity of the prescription in front of him.
To avoid awkwardness, she changed the subject.
“You mentioned acupressure—does the hospital offer that?”
“Jing Jie, no need for the hospital. I can do it myself.”
Big brother’s an old-school doctor; you can trust my massage skills.
