After tidying up the dishes, Jiang Li stepped out. Lu Jinye sat on the sofa with a serious expression, typing away.
Seeing Jiang Li emerge, he put away his phone and his expression turned playful again.
“Sorry for holding up Chairman Jiang’s schedule today.”
Jiang Li ignored his sarcastic tone and returned to the bedroom to change into casual, comfortable clothes.
Unexpectedly, Lu Jinye was still downstairs when she came down. “Why haven’t you left yet?”
Lu Jinye crossed his long legs, his tone inscrutable. “Chairman Jiang, where are you headed this time?”
Jiang Li reached out to open the door, offering him a formal smile. “Mr. Lu, please take care.”
Lu Jinye remained unmoved.
Jiang Li’s patience began to wear thin. Why did he always intrude on her life without any regard for her wishes?
Whether coming or going.
She grabbed her phone and stepped outside, annoyed. “Since Mr. Lu is currently indisposed, I will leave.”
The door slammed shut behind her, leaving Lu Jinye looking surprised.
Since when had Jiang Li developed such a temper?
Through the window, he saw her indeed heading toward the community gate. Lu Jinye clicked his tongue lightly before pushing the door open and stepping out.
Her expecting him to follow was no surprise, so Jiang Li showed no panic.
Lu Jinye’s expression carried a hint of amusement. “Shall I see you off?”
Jiang Li truly couldn’t understand his intentions, but she disliked the feeling.
Everything was under his control — he came when he pleased and left when he wished, leaving her in a passive position.
She suddenly stopped, staring at Lu Jinye until the playful smile on his face faded, then spoke,
“Mr. Lu, I hope you understand that we are merely college classmates. It’s really inappropriate to barge into someone’s home unannounced.”
She paused, then added, “And to steal takeout, no less.”
Lu Jinye hesitated. College classmates? Hah, trying to make it sound so clean and simple.
He withdrew his gaze and nodded. “If we’re just college classmates, Chairman Jiang must be very open-minded. Otherwise, how would you end up in bed with one of your classmates?”
Jiang Li clenched her fists so tightly that her nails dug into her skin. He still knew how to hit where it hurts.
“That’s none of your business, Mr. Lu.”
“Right, since Chairman Jiang is busy with important matters, I’ll be off.”
With that, he walked toward a white Bentley by the roadside, opened the door, and drove off without a moment’s hesitation.
Jiang Li released her aching hand and hailed a taxi.

Back at the company, Lu Jinye called Qin Yue over and slammed a staff information sheet on the desk. “Who is she?”
Qin Yue glanced at it, eyes flickering away. “Mr. Lu, she’s a new hire at headquarters, Bai Nannan.”
Lu Jinye tapped the desk, expression cold. “I didn’t ask about that.”
“Sorry, Mr. Lu,” Qin Yue lowered her head. “Bai Nannan is General Manager Shen’s... Shen Ye Chu’s girlfriend.”
Seeing he remained silent, Qin Yue continued, “When she was hired, Shen Ye Chu and Miss Jiang were not divorced yet. So I couldn’t screen her out at the time.”
“Mm.” Lu Jinye pulled out a cigarette and lit it. Qin Yue noticed he had been smoking much more lately.
“Call her in.”
“Yes.”
When Bai Nannan learned that the president wanted to see her alone, her heart fluttered nervously—but mostly with excitement.
As an intern who had worked at Lu Corporation for just over two months without a single mistake, a summons from the president surely meant good news.
She even felt a bit thrilled.
“Knock, knock, knock.”
“Come in.”
A deep, magnetic voice sounded from behind the door. Bai Nannan took a deep breath and unbuttoned one button of her blouse.
“Mr. Lu.” Her voice was soft, deliberately drawing out the last syllable.
Lu Jinye said nothing, his pen scratching across various documents.
Bai Nannan wasn’t in a hurry either. She looked at the man before her with surprise.
Shen Ye Chu was handsome, but his charm was like a pool of still water, calm and slow. This man was different.
His sharp brows and starry eyes, high nose bridge, clearly defined jawline as he looked down, the slight frown, and the occasional movement of his Adam’s apple made him even more alluring.
His face was strikingly aggressive in its good looks.
Finally, he put down his pen and cracked his knuckles with a sharp “pop.”
Bai Nannan quickly regained her composure and softly called out again, “Mr. Lu.”
Lu Jinye looked at the woman in front of him: long black curls, slightly upturned eyes, a round face, and a teasing look that suggested both invitation and refusal.
So this was the woman.
He tapped the desk. “Bai Nannan.”
She raised her eyes to meet his cold, arrogant gaze. Paired with his deep blue shirt and gray tie, he looked untouchable.
“What’s your current position?”
“Mr. Lu, I’m in charge of logistics.”

Leaning back in his chair, Lu Jinye nodded. “I heard you had a brief encounter with Chairman Jiang from the Go Association during her interview?”
Bai Nannan’s heart skipped a beat. Could he have heard what she said back then?
She stammered, “We just passed each other.” Then she glanced at him furtively.
But Lu Jinye kept watching her, a meaningful smile playing on his lips. “Good. Go to HR and handle the paperwork. You’ll be my assistant.”
“What?” Bai Nannan exclaimed in surprise, then coyly hesitated. “Isn’t that inappropriate? I’m just an intern.”
Lu Jinye stood and walked over to her. At 189 centimeters tall, his broad shoulders and narrow waist exuded immense masculine charm.
“After handover, come to my office in half an hour.”
With that, he opened the door and left, leaving Bai Nannan lost in thought.
Why was she suddenly being transferred to the president’s office? Why ask about Jiang Li from the studio? Did they know each other?
It didn’t make sense. She’d never heard of any connection between Jiang Li and Lu Corporation.
As she pondered, she walked out and happened to meet Qin Yue. Bai Nannan hurried over, clutching her arm and teasingly asked, “Sister Qin, does Mr. Lu know Jiang Li who plays Go?”
Qin Yue pulled her hand away with annoyance. “What’s it to you?”
Bai Nannan was displeased with her attitude. Even a junior secretary dared to show her attitude? She’d deal with that after she got closer to the president...
But now wasn’t the time to pick a fight. She smiled apologetically. “Mr. Lu transferred me to the president’s office.” Her tone brimmed with pride.
Qin Yue frowned but, with years of experience, chose not to interfere and replied formally, “I haven’t received the HR notice yet. If you have questions, ask Mr. Lu yourself.”
She turned and left, clearly disliking Bai Nannan.
With her blouse unbuttoned nearly to her chest, anyone who knew would think she had visited the office—those who didn’t might assume she worked at some club.
Half an hour later, after completing the handover, Bai Nannan knocked on Lu Jinye’s office door.
Lu Jinye responded with a low “Hmm,” and she entered.
This time not only was her neckline lower, but her work skirt was also deliberately raised quite high.
Lu Jinye still smiled at her, but his eyes held a chilling coldness.
“From today on, you’ll be Qin Yue’s assistant and follow me. But your salary stays at intern level. Do you understand what I mean?”
Bai Nannan didn’t care about the pay. She wanted far more than a few thousand yuan.
“I understand, Mr. Lu. As an intern, I’m truly honored to work with you.”
“Good. Have Qin Yue arrange you a workstation and tell her this is my order.”
Bai Nannan was overjoyed. She thought to herself that Qin Yue surely wouldn’t dare show her attitude now. When the president speaks, even the secretary-general has to be polite.
