Luo Qingyao knew that Rong Shaoqin had already registered his marriage with that woman named Sang Haining. But she didn’t mind. She was well aware that this marriage wouldn’t last long. Of course, she never dared hope that Rong Shaoqin would marry her. Her background was complicated, and she suffered from a congenital heart disease, unable even to bear children—how could she possibly hold Rong Shaoqin back for life? Therefore, her sole wish was to become the most important woman in Rong Shaoqin’s heart. Over all these years, no one had shaken her position in his mind. Yet now, Sang Haining, whom she had always disregarded, suddenly stirred within her a strong sense of crisis. She hadn’t expected Rong Shaoqin to pick out a diamond ring for Sang Haining.
With a forced smile, Luo Qingyao tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear. “What a coincidence, my birthday is the same day as my sister-in-law’s. I should pick out a nice gift for her.”
“No need. Just focus on choosing your own gift,” Rong Shaoqin replied, clearly distracted. His mind was still on Sang Haining’s ring size.
Last night, he had pinned her down on the bed. Her fingers were long and slender, pale like spring onions. He had slipped his hand between her fingers, pressing and massaging firmly. Rong Shaoqin glanced at his own hand, roughly confirmed the size with the sales assistant, and swiped his card to purchase it immediately.
Luo Qingyao’s smile nearly faltered.
“Have you picked it out yet?” Rong Shaoqin turned to look at her.
Luo Qingyao had long lost the desire to pick a gift. She casually pointed at a bracelet. “That one.”
After buying the gift, Rong Shaoqin took Luo Qingyao to a Western restaurant they had reserved in advance. Luo Qingyao stared at the handbag beside Rong Shaoqin that held the diamond ring, feeling no joy at all.
At that moment, the waiter brought over a cake and lit the candles.
Rong Shaoqin glanced at his watch, then said to Luo Qingyao, “Make a wish.”
Luo Qingyao clasped her hands, closed her eyes, and silently made two wishes.
The first wish was that Sang Haining would be hit by a car as soon as she stepped outside.
The second was that she would forever remain the most important woman in Rong Shaoqin’s heart.
After making her wishes, Luo Qingyao blew out the candles.

Rong Shaoqin cut her a small piece of cake, then checked his watch again. “I have to rush back to the old residence by eleven to celebrate your sister-in-law’s birthday. Eat quickly. After you finish, I’ll take you home first.”
Luo Qingyao took a small sip of cream, then smiled gently. Two small dimples appeared at the corners of her lips, making her smile seem innocent. “If I had known today was also my sister-in-law’s birthday, I wouldn’t have troubled you to come out with me. If my sister-in-law finds out, she’ll definitely be unhappy.”
“She won’t,” Rong Shaoqin said softly, a trace of tenderness flickering in his eyes as he thought of Sang Haining’s gentle demeanor. “She knows I’m here celebrating your birthday.”
“But my sister-in-law won’t say it out loud, she’ll be angry inside. What if she dislikes me because of this?” Luo Qingyao’s face clouded with worry.
Rong Shaoqin defended Sang Haining, “She’s not that kind of person.”
Luo Qingyao’s hand beneath the table clenched involuntarily. She hummed softly. “I really have no sense of boundaries. Brother Shaoqin, you’re married now, and we’re not even blood relatives. I should be putting my sister-in-law first, yet I’ve had you come all this way just to accompany me. Have you told her about me? She won’t misunderstand, will she?”
“I haven’t told her about you,” Rong Shaoqin said, placing a piece of steak in front of Luo Qingyao.
“So, my sister-in-law actually doesn’t know about our relationship?” Luo Qingyao looked genuinely surprised.
Rong Shaoqin nodded faintly after taking a bite of steak.
Luo Qingyao’s smile deepened. “Then my sister-in-law is really generous. She doesn’t even know what kind of relationship we have, yet she’s okay with you coming out to celebrate my birthday. I was worried about upsetting her, but hearing you say that, I can be completely at ease.”
Lowering her head, she happily ate her steak.
What the speaker means and what the listener hears often differ.
Rong Shaoqin pondered for a moment, then suddenly realized something. The steak in front of him lost its flavor in an instant. His expression darkened.
Luo Qingyao glanced at him, then quickly looked down again, curling the corner of her lips.
The meal was strangely oppressive.
Rong Shaoqin had not smiled once.
Except for the first bite, the steak in front of him remained untouched.
Growing increasingly irritated, Rong Shaoqin stood up. “I’m going out for a smoke.”
Luo Qingyao nodded. “Brother Shaoqin, put on your coat. It’s cold outside.”
Rong Shaoqin grabbed his coat but only hung it over his arm.
With a cold expression, he lit a cigarette under a tree outside.
His secretary hurriedly stepped out of the car and took the coat from him, draping it over Rong Shaoqin’s shoulders. “President Rong, it’s so cold. Why don’t you put on your coat? If you get sick, madam will surely blame me for not taking good care of you.”
Hearing the mention of Sang Haining, Rong Shaoqin’s gaze became unfocused.
He took a deep drag of his cigarette and asked softly, “If a woman doesn’t mind her man celebrating another woman’s birthday, what do you think she’s really feeling?”
The secretary instinctively assumed that the “woman” Rong Shaoqin referred to was Luo Qingyao.
After all, President Rong didn’t love his wife Sang Haining.
Why would he ask such a jealous question on behalf of Sang Haining?
So the secretary interpreted it as: Luo Qingyao doesn’t mind me going back to celebrate Sang Haining’s birthday. What does Luo Qingyao really think?
The secretary disliked Luo Qingyao, seeing her as a manipulative little vixen.
As a supporter of Sang Haining, he began to subtly poison Rong Shaoqin’s mind against Luo Qingyao. “It’s obviously because she doesn’t care about this man.”
Rong Shaoqin frowned slightly. “But she treats that man well.”
“That’s just an act,” the secretary said with a smug chin raised, speaking as if it were gospel.
That little vixen Luo Qingyao was clearly scheming, not his true sister, and always overstepping boundaries, clinging to President Rong.
He had to seize this chance to plant doubts in Rong Shaoqin’s mind about Luo Qingyao.
Rong Shaoqin’s face darkened as if ink could drip from it.
He stubbed out his cigarette, suppressing the anger in his chest, and said in a near-restrained voice, “Take Qingyao home first, then head back to the old residence.”
The secretary felt a bit smug.
It seemed his subtle poisoning was working.
Look, President Rong was already starting to distance himself from Luo Qingyao.
Good.
Madam was so much better—prettier than Luo Qingyao, with a better figure and a pure heart, wholeheartedly thinking of President Rong. Far superior to Luo Qingyao.
The secretary silently gave himself a mental thumbs-up.
He began to arrange to send Luo Qingyao home.
Rong Shaoqin sat in a different car, preparing to return to the old residence.
Just then, Luo Qingyao suddenly collapsed.
Rong Shaoqin quickly got out of the car, lifted Luo Qingyao into the front seat, and ordered the secretary to drive straight to the hospital.
When it came to matters of life and death, no matter how much the secretary disliked Luo Qingyao, he didn’t act on impulse. He stepped on the accelerator, speeding beyond the limit.
In the car, Rong Shaoqin sent a message to Sang Haining: “Qingyao is having a heart attack. I’m taking her to the hospital. I won’t be back by noon. Please inform grandma on my behalf.”
Within half a minute, he received Sang Haining’s cold reply: “The paparazzi caught you buying a diamond ring for Miss Luo and posted it online. Grandma knows and is very upset now.”
