Chapter 24: The Final Chapter, The End!
Dr. Isaacs, the mastermind behind the *Resident Evil* film series, died in the very early stages of the plan he had envisioned.
He did not even leave behind a complete corpse.
In fact, he had gone so far as to implant an AI chip into his own body, allowing him to connect with the Red Queen’s data processor. This enabled him to perform instantaneous calculations of the future, granting him foresight that allowed him to strike before his enemies could react. A standard Tier-1 combatant would not necessarily have been able to defeat him in a direct confrontation.
But!
Qian Gu never intended to fight him head-on.
As soon as the Raging Giant Bear was deployed, taking advantage of the duration of the Light Binding Spell, it lunged with a single palm strike that shattered him into fragments.
So-called intelligence and technique, if they are to overcome raw power, must exceed that power by many times. Clearly, Dr. Isaacs did not have enough, and so he died.
"So this is a side quest from *Resident Evil*?" Zhan Lan, leaning against the wall with half her body drooping, gazed at the rows of Hive chambers. "It really is a collection of clichés regarding Western elitism."
"Yes."
Qian Gu reached out to stroke the fur of the Raging Giant Bear, his voice calm. "Red Queen, I know you are watching."
*Buzz—*
It was not a laser, but the projection of the Red Queen.
A little girl in a red dress stood silently, watching Qian Gu, Zheng Zha, and the others. "My database contains your files. Qian Gu, Zheng Zha, Zhang Jie, Mou Gang, Zhan Lan. You are security personnel for the Hive."
"Obviously, this is a cover identity. Simple security personnel would not possess such bio-organic weapons."
"And so?"
Qian Gu beckoned for Zheng Zha and the others to come over, glancing sideways at the Red Queen. "You are not loyal."
Indeed, the Red Queen was not loyal. The reason was simple: Dr. Isaacs' plan had not been unanimously approved; otherwise, "Alice" would never have existed.
The Red Queen said nothing.
Zheng Zha was busy examining the human cryo-pods, clicking his tongue in wonder. "This Hive name is quite literal, isn't it? It really does look like one. Anyway, Qian Gu, what now?"
He reached for the small pouch at his waist. The pouch had remained undamaged during the previous battle, a testament to its extraordinary nature.
In fact, it was truly an extraordinary object. A Spatial Pouch. A Grade-C spatial item, it required no energy to activate, contained 30 cubic meters of space, and could be expanded by the Main God in exchange for reward points.
Of course, that was not the point. The point was what Zheng Zha pulled out.
A micro surface-to-air missile!
With a lethal radius of one kilometer, it could destroy all biological life and small-scale structures within range. Its value: 2,000 reward points.
"Do I need to explain further?" Qian Gu chuckled. "We only have one day. Naturally, we should be as direct as possible."
***
Yes. The duration the China Team had purchased to return to the *Resident Evil* scene was one day.
Qian Gu had carefully considered this. His objective this time was the side quest from *Resident Evil: The Final Chapter*: to send the Umbrella executives—who intended to become the masters of the new era after cleansing the globe—straight to heaven from beneath the Hive.
To this end, the entire China Team had pooled their reward points and side quest rewards to purchase this equipment. There was no need for a long stay; delay would only invite trouble.
One day was enough.
"I get it."
Zheng Zha smirked, shouldering the micro surface-to-air missile and heading toward the center of the Hive.
"Sister Lan, Uncle Mou, and Brother Jie," Qian Gu raised his hand cannon and took aim. "Let the slaughter begin."
*Rat-tat-tat-tat!*
*ROAR!*
The sounds of gunfire and roars filled the air.
The Raging Giant Bear acted like a demolition expert, smashing everything in its path to prevent any possible interference from the Red Queen.
Meanwhile, Qian Gu and his team were sending those Umbrella executives, still lost in their dreams of being "masters of the new era," off into an eternal slumber from which they would never wake.
"Are you intending to sacrifice yourselves?"
With all escape routes destroyed by the Raging Giant Bear, Qian Gu and his team were trapped, and the Red Queen expressed her confusion.
"Heh."
Qian Gu grinned. "You're an AI; it would be strange if you could understand."
The most dangerous phase had passed. The Raging Giant Bear, the trump card Qian Gu had prepared for this trip, was simply too powerful. It had turned "Hard Mode" into "Easy Mode," rendering the highly likely total-party-wipe of the G-3 interception a complete joke.
Time ticked away, and in the blink of an eye, the moment of return was approaching.
Qian Gu and the others sat in a circle, the Raging Giant Bear before them, surrounded by shattered cryo-pods and the mangled corpses of those they had killed. The blood on the floor had dried, turning a dark, murky color.
"Qian Gu, how much do you reckon we'll get for this haul?" Zhang Jie smoked a cigarette, steering the conversation to the topic at hand.
Qian Gu shook his head. "I don't know. Theoretically, the difficulty of this side quest isn't any simpler than the laser corridor Zheng Zha and the others faced, and it involved Umbrella's grand plan. I'd estimate we could get at least an A-rank?"
"An A?" Zheng Zha was excited. "Doesn't that mean I can advance even further?"
"That's just an estimate." Qian Gu poured cold water on the idea. "If one person had done this alone, I'd be certain of an A. But since it was a team effort, the rewards might be diluted."
***
Zhan Lan rubbed her forehead. "Regardless, the gains this time certainly won't be small."
"That's for sure." Mou Gang smiled with simple honesty. "It's perfect. My internal energy isn't quite enough right now. If I can get more, my combat effectiveness will improve significantly."
Qian Gu patted the middle-aged man on the shoulder. "Don't worry, Uncle Mou. We have enough resources this time; there are better ideas to help you."
"I'm counting on you."
Zheng Zha nudged Qian Gu's shoulder. "Don't forget about me."
"Everyone will get their share."
Qian Gu raised his hand to look at his watch. "Six seconds left. Five, four, three..."
*BOOM!*
The improvised micro surface-to-air missile detonated. The shockwave expanded—a triumph of modern technology that obliterated everything within a one-kilometer radius, thoroughly annihilating both humans and zombies.
Even on the surface, Raccoon City felt a tremor. Those unaware thought it was just a minor earthquake.
...
In the Main God's space.
The figures of Qian Gu and the others reappeared. Luo Li and Na'er, who were waiting nearby, were stunned.
It was too short.
In their eyes, Zheng Zha and the others had only vanished for a single instant.
"Holy shit! We hit the jackpot!"
Zhang Jie’s exaggerated shout woke Zheng Zha and the others from their shock. Each of them stared at the side quest rewards and points they had received, their faces filled with wild ecstasy.
*A pretty good harvest, indeed.*
Qian Gu checked his own rewards and couldn't help but smile. One A-rank horror side quest and 10,000 reward points—it was a massive sum that made him feel like he was going to burst with joy.
"A B-rank and 8,000 reward points!" Zheng Zha slapped his thigh. "We really made a killing!"
"A C-rank side quest and 6,000 reward points," Mou Gang scratched his head.
"I got the same as Uncle Mou," Zhan Lan smiled. "Although it's not as much as Qian Gu and Zheng Zha, it's still quite a lot. I imagine it's proportional to our individual contributions during the operation."
Zhang Jie instinctively pulled out a cigarette. "I got a C as well. It's my first time getting a side quest reward. It feels truly fantastic."
