Chapter 39. Only Children Make Choices!

In the hotel room, the little pot on the tabletop alcohol burner bubbled and steamed, with several dozen bottles of beer stacked beside it.
Ji Yu held his guitar and strummed softly. His technique was not particularly polished, but it was more than enough to fool the untrained ear.
The melody carried a faint sadness. Le Jiatong and Fan Bingbing, each hugging a bottle of beer, could not help swaying gently along.
“Let me look at you once more~ from south to north...
As though my eyes were veiled by the Fifth Ring Road~~
Please tell me once again~~ about that day~
The girl holding a bottle of wine and the man who sang~~
I know this winter, like youth, will never come back~~”
Ji Yu had gone straight for “Anhe Bridge.” How could anyone survive that?
He had even changed the lyrics to suit the situation.
The girl holding a bottle of wine and the man who sang.
How perfectly fitting!
At that moment, Le Jiatong and Fan Bingbing truly had stars in their eyes.
Amazing!
Writing a song on the spot was incredible!
The two little fangirls stared at Ji Yu without blinking.
Was he talking about me—the girl holding the bottle?
That thought arose in both their minds at the same time, and the tenderness in their eyes deepened.
Ji Yu sang a little more, then stopped.
He could not remember the rest...
He would probably be able to recall it once he completed the Love Manual quest.
“Why did you stop singing?” Le Jiatong asked softly, unusually gentle.
Ji Yu set down the guitar and explained, “I haven’t figured out the rest yet.”
“You really just wrote it?” Le Jiatong asked in surprise.
“Of course. What else would it be?” Ji Yu said as he seized his chopsticks and began raiding the lamb slices in the pot.
He coated one in rich sesame sauce and stuffed it into his mouth.
Delicious!
With a smile in her eyes, Le Jiatong took the initiative to fish out more lamb and place it in his bowl.
Fan Bingbing took a sip of beer and looked at him. “Will you finish writing it?”
Ji Yu slurped away happily. “Of course. Once it’s finished, I’ll sing it for you.”
Sing it for me?
Fan Bingbing’s grip tightened slightly around the bottle.
Le Jiatong suddenly snorted. She picked up her chopsticks and snatched the lamb from Ji Yu’s bowl.
So you want to sing it for someone else!
Ji Yu let out a cry and looked up at her. “Why did you steal my meat?”
“I’d rather feed it to a dog than let you have it!” Le Jiatong snorted, then stuffed the meat into Fan Bingbing’s mouth.
Fan Bingbing: “What?!”
Ji Yu could not help bursting into laughter at the sight of Fan Bingbing with her cheeks stuffed full.
You two were finally fighting!
Pulling hair, tugging at bras!
Women fighting was so entertaining. If only they would drag him into it as well.
He was good at all sorts of things.

A three-way brawl would be much more fun.
Ji Yu watched gleefully as Le Jiatong picked up a chili pepper and shoved it into his mouth.
“You lousy bastard, stop laughing! You’re eating it too!”
Ji Yu: “Ghh—!”
After dealing with the two wretched lovers, Le Jiatong finally felt a little better.
She really had become just like Zhao Pan’er in the play.
She had helped bring the two of them together!
Ji Yu gulped down beer, sticking out his tongue and panting like a little dog.
He shot Fan Bingbing a glance. She gave an almost imperceptible nod, then suddenly threw her arms around Le Jiatong.
Ji Yu immediately rolled up his sleeves and began laughing wickedly.
“Prepare to suffer the full punishment!”
The two women tumbled onto Ji Yu’s bed. Fan Bingbing wrapped herself around Le Jiatong and shouted, “Take off her shoes and tickle the soles of her feet!”
“Coming right up!” Ji Yu agreed readily. What a wonderful opportunity!
As he tugged at Le Jiatong’s shoe, he muttered, “Your feet don’t stink, do they?”
Le Jiatong had no time to answer. She was locked in a desperate struggle with Fan Bingbing, and their hands had already reached inside each other’s sweaters.
Ji Yu stole a glance, then yanked off Le Jiatong’s shoe and sock in one pull.
Le Jiatong panicked. Rolling back and forth across the bed, she threatened him.
“Ji Yu! If you touch me, you’re dead!”
“Hmph!”
Ji Yu caught her ankle and looked at her foot. Her skin was very fair, her foot slender and bony, her toes long and rounded. Their bright red polish made them look especially adorable when they curled up.
With a wicked grin, Ji Yu reached toward the sole of her foot.
Le Jiatong immediately lost her temper and kicked. Her foot nearly landed in his mouth.
“Ugh!”
Ji Yu almost sucked on her toes. Mortified and furious, he sprang up and leaped onto the bed.
“Crow Lands on a Plane!”
“Tornado Destroys the Parking Lot!”
The two women screamed at once, and the three of them rolled into a tangled heap on the bed.
A few minutes later, all three lay sprawled in different directions, panting.
Their faces were flushed, as though they had been thoroughly exhausted.
Le Jiatong glanced up at Ji Yu and said irritably, “Are you going to move your hand?”
“You let go first!”
“Three, two, one—together!”
Ji Yu gave an understanding grunt, pulled his hand out from beneath her sweater, and withdrew his tiger-claw strike.
Fan Bingbing also shifted her legs, blushing. Ji Yu silently removed his hand from her thigh.
The more Le Jiatong thought about it, the angrier she became. She raised her foot and stomped down again.
Ji Yu lay spread-eagled, unable to restrain a few pained groans.
Where exactly did she think she was stepping?

“If you’ve got the nerve, use both feet at once! If I cry out even once, then I’m not Big Ji!”
Le Jiatong bent her leg and stomped him several more times before withdrawing her foot, her face flushed.
The three of them simply lay there, staring at the ceiling in silence.
The only sound in the room was the hot pot bubbling away.
Just as Ji Yu was about to sit up, he felt his hand being hooked.
Both hands were hooked.
Le Jiatong and Fan Bingbing lay on either side of him, each unable to see what the other was doing.
Ji Yu turned to look at Le Jiatong and saw misty moisture in her eyes. She pursed her lips and gestured for him to send Fan Bingbing away.
Ji Yu’s heart began pounding.
Was he really going to get to eat lamb tonight?
He turned toward Fan Bingbing and found her blushing as she quietly blinked several times. The unspoken meaning was exactly the same as Le Jiatong’s.
Ji Yu’s spirits immediately sank.
It was over. No lamb tonight!
Clearly, the three of them together was impossible. If it was going to be one-on-one, one of them had to leave.
Nineteen-year-old, innocent Bingbing.
Mature, sensual Le Jiatong.
How was he supposed to choose?
Who was he supposed to send away?
Ji Yu looked from one side to the other, finding the decision impossibly difficult.
Only children make choices. Adults want everything!
Ji Yu clasped both their hands, yet had no idea how to keep them both there.
This was unbelievably difficult!
He felt that if he dared say such a thing aloud, Le Jiatong would kick him into oblivion.
Fan Bingbing would slap him, turn against him, and walk away.
Then Ji Yu suddenly thought of Teacher Li. With a sigh, he quietly released their hands.
If he could not have lamb tonight, there would always be another day.
He would leave his first time for Teacher Li.
Neither woman had expected him to let go. Both felt a pang of disappointment.
Did he prefer her—or her?
Ji Yu had no idea what was going through their minds. He only felt dispirited, so he went to eat lamb by the mouthful.
The lamb had gone a little tough, but it was still fragrant and chewy. Washed down with a sip of cold beer, it was remarkably satisfying.
Le Jiatong and Fan Bingbing also sat up on either side of him and began drinking from their bottles.
After a while, Le Jiatong finally spoke.
“Sing another song.”
“Sing the one from before.”
“All right.”
Ji Yu held his guitar and began to sing again.
“Let me look at you once more~ from south to north... the girl holding a bottle of wine and the man who sang~~”
