Chapter 45. Two Women, One Man
At night, Ji Yu held his phone and called Lao Cai.
The main purpose of the call was to discuss his plan to release a record.
There were many record companies in Beijing, but Chinese Entertainment did not handle that kind of business, so he intended to sign with an independent record company.
Lao Cai was puzzled and told him not to rush, asking him to wait until she traveled to Beijing in a few days to talk things over.
Lao Cai was also planning to visit Beijing Television in the next couple of days to try and sell *Detective Ke Lan*.
Although the premiere had been broadcast on Shanghai Television, selling it to only one television station would not recoup their production costs.
After hanging up the phone, Ji Yu lay down on his bed and fished out the collection of songs he had organized yesterday.
There were over twenty songs in total, from which he needed to select ten for an album.
He had already decided on two songs: "Your Backpack" and "Happy Breakup".
Both were songs released in 2002. When plagiarism was involved, Ji Yu naturally had to pick the most recent songs to copy.
If he copied the ones from a decade in the future first, he wouldn't have another chance to copy these later.
There was another song that made Ji Yu hesitate about whether to include it or not.
"Peninsula Iron Box".
This was also a legendary hit from 2002!
Yet, Ji Yu felt it would be too wasteful to put it in this album.
He believed that every single one of these songs he could remember was at the level of a primary album title track.
Putting ten classics into a single album was truly a bit extravagant.
However, an album required ten songs to be complete.
Ji Yu figured that if worst came to worst, he would just cobble together a few generic pop tunes to make up the numbers.
An album only needed two or three strong title tracks anyway.
Lying prone on his bed, scribbling and sketching, Ji Yu finally settled on ten songs.
The core consisted of three main tracks.
"Your Backpack", "Happy Breakup", and "A Painless Breakup"!
Their styles were very similar, so putting them on the same album wouldn't feel out of place.
"Peninsula Iron Box" wasn't quite as suitable; Jay Chou's unique style was something ordinary people simply couldn't pull off.
Moreover, it didn't match the style of "Your Backpack" and "Happy Breakup" very well.
In comparison, "Happy Breakup" was the absolute blockbuster.
"Peninsula Iron Box" fell slightly short.
As for "A Painless Breakup", Ji Yu intended to find a famous female singer to duet with him, which would add a bit of fame and recognition to the album.
As for who he could find, that would depend on the connections of Lao Cai and the record company.
Hopefully, these three songs would impress the people at the record company and help him secure a top-tier female singer!
Lying in bed and daydreaming about his future of becoming an overnight sensation, Ji Yu fell asleep shortly after.
In the early morning, Ji Yu crawled out of bed, freshened up simply, and carried his suitcase downstairs.
He was heading to Beijing today.
The thought of Teacher Li, whom he hadn't seen in a long time, sent a wave of excitement through Ji Yu.
He wished he could instantly fly back and show off his culinary skills to Teacher Li.
Stir-fried Chinese cab...bage!
Ji Yu had truly been single for too long; his mind was entirely filled with lewd thoughts.
He was beyond saving.
Mainly because he spent every day with Le Jiatong and Fan Bingbing, enduring unbearable ambiguity without ever getting to taste the fruit, driving him almost out of his mind.
Carrying his bag, Ji Yu knocked on Le Jiatong's door.
"Are you two ready yet?"
"What's the rush? We still have plenty of time!" Le Jiatong and Fan Bingbing dawdled inside the room.
It was only eight o'clock, what was the hurry to hit the road?
Beijing was so far away, driving would take a dozen or twenty hours.
It was impossible to drive the whole time without stopping, so they definitely wouldn't arrive today.
"Listen to him rush. We're definitely going to have to spend the night on the road, all he knows is urge, urge, urge."
Le Jiatong looked in the mirror, adjusting her eyeliner with a faint smile at the corner of her lips.
Fan Bingbing laughed and teased, "He's just eager to spend the night, that's all."
"I think you're the eager one!"
With that, Le Jiatong reached out and tickled Fan Bingbing's waist.
Hearing their laughter from outside, Ji Yu gave the door the middle finger before heading downstairs to eat breakfast.
By the time Ji Yu finished his breakfast, the two women finally came down.
After leisurely finishing their meal, they announced they needed to buy snacks.
Once inside the supermarket, the two women couldn't stop.
They loaded snack after snack into the shopping cart, and anyone watching would have thought they were preparing for a party.
Ji Yu was completely numb; it was almost ten o'clock now.
Even if they didn't stop along the way later, they would have to drive until the early hours of tomorrow morning to arrive.
It looked like they would have to spend the night on the road after all.
"Two beauties, that's about enough, don't you think?" Ji Yu said with some resignation.
"We'll be on the road for so long, we need to buy some things to eat along the way. Aren't we just doing this so you don't starve?"
Le Jiatong looked back at Ji Yu, who was pushing the small cart.
Ji Yu stared at the snacks in the cart and fell into deep contemplation.
Were potato chips, melon seeds, and chicken feet things he could eat while driving?
Le Jiatong was clearly buying them for herself!
Fuming silently, Ji Yu followed them around and only emerged from the supermarket an hour later.
And he was the one who had to pay!
There was simply no justice in this world!
At ten-thirty, the three of them finally got into the car, and Ji Yu immediately started the engine and floored the accelerator.
The two women sat in the back row, chattering away and eating snacks.
However, once they got on the highway, the two women quickly quieted down.
Ji Yu glanced in the rearview mirror and found that they had leaned against each other and fallen asleep.
Observing the traffic conditions ahead and behind, he gave the steering wheel a slight shake.
The car jolted violently, and both women were startled awake instantly.
"What just happened?"
"Nothing, I accidentally dozed off. You guys go back to sleep," Ji Yu purposely frightened them.
The two women instantly widened their eyes, completely losing any sleepiness!
If they fell asleep again, they might lose their lives!
The nervous and adorable expressions of the two women amused Ji Yu endlessly.
That'll teach you to sleep!
Who knows why they didn't keep their driver company with some conversation.
Le Jiatong patted his seat and said, "Pull over up ahead, and let someone else come up front to talk to you."
"Alright, who's first?"
With that, Ji Yu pulled the car over onto the emergency lane and turned on his hazard lights.
Fan Bingbing twisted her neck and moved to the front passenger seat.
In the back, Le Jiatong let out a yawn, feeling much more at ease.
The car started moving again, and Fan Bingbing struck up a conversation, asking, "Why are you in such a rush to get back?"
Ji Yu glanced at her and spouted nonsense, "I'm going back to check on my kids."
"Really? You already have kids?"
"Yup, twins even! One is named Fan Bingbing and the other is named Le Jiatong."
Fan Bingbing: "......" Taking advantage of me!
In the back seat, the dozing Le Jiatong couldn't help the corners of her mouth curling up as she stretched her legs onto the armrest box.
Ji Yu turned his head for a look and said with a huff, "Why did you take your shoes off?"
"To help wake you up."
"......"
Ji Yu couldn't resist sneaking another glance. Her toes were wriggling back and forth like she was dancing.
Her little cotton socks bunched up together looked quite cute.
Fan Bingbing glared at Ji Yu, thinking, *You pervert! What are you looking at!*
She reached out and gave Le Jiatong a tickle, causing Le Jiatong to laugh and pull her feet back.
"Focus on driving, stop getting distracted."
Ji Yu let out an "oh" and chatted casually with her while driving.
After driving for more than three hours straight, Le Jiatong complained that she needed to use the restroom, so the car stopped at a service area.
Ji Yu sat in the car yawning; driving for long periods of time certainly made one prone to drowsiness.
After the two women returned from the restroom, they hit the road again.
It was past seven o'clock in the evening when they finally exited the highway.
They would stop driving for the night and find a place to eat and sleep.
In an unfamiliar place, with one man and two women, perhaps some surprises might happen.
After dinner, Ji Yu found a hotel, told Fan Bingbing and Le Jiatong to pack their things, and rushed inside ahead of them to book a room.
Watching Ji Yu's retreating figure and then glancing at Le Jiatong, who was retouching her makeup, Fan Bingbing leaned close to her ear and whispered something.
Le Jiatong froze after hearing it.
Inside the hotel, Ji Yu excitedly shouted to the front desk clerk, "One room with a king-sized bed!"
"Alright. How many people are staying? We need ID cards for registration."
"Three people, can we just register one?" Ji Yu handed over a single ID card along with a fifty-yuan bill.
The receptionist silently accepted the cash and handed him the room keycard.
At that moment, Fan Bingbing and Le Jiatong pushed their suitcases inside.
Le Jiatong trotted over with a beaming smile and called out, "Hubby~"
Fan Bingbing also chimed in sweetly, "Brother-in-law."
Receptionist: "???" *No wonder he didn't want to register everyone's ID cards!*
She had seen a brother-in-law checking into a hotel with his sister-in-law before, but this was the first time she had ever seen a man checking in with both his wife and her sister!
Unfazed, Ji Yu put an arm around each of them, practically puffing out his chest with smugness.
The two women couldn't help bursting into laughter.
Finished laughing, Le Jiatong handed another ID card to the receptionist and said, "Trouble you to open another room, please."
Ji Yu couldn't help curling his lips; no driving at night for him.
He had thought there might be a chance tonight.
Upstairs to sleep!
