The next second, Yan Rou instinctively leapt from the car and threw herself forward.

“Bang!”

“Boom!”

The motorcycle exploded beneath the barrage.

Yan Rou rolled up from the ground and darted behind the corner of a wall. Chunks of masonry kept breaking loose under the gunfire. She did not dare expose herself. Gripping her weapon with both hands, she clenched her teeth as the image of her two fellow officers being shot flashed through her mind.

“Damn bastard!”

“I’ll have your life!”

The instant the gunfire outside stopped, Yan Rou charged out, only to see the hulking man already making his way toward the gate.

Her heart lurched.

His target was Su Ming’s younger sister!

Could it be... that Wang Hu really had not been killed by Su Ming?

The brute was about to step inside. Yan Rou knew she could wait no longer. Raising her gun, she pulled the trigger repeatedly.

“Bang! Bang!”

Both shots struck him. The man staggered, pitching forward, but then turned around with a feral grin.

The bullet wounds in his back seemed to pose no threat to him whatsoever.

Yan Rou was stunned. She had never encountered such a savage criminal.

“Boom!”

The shotgun roared. Yan Rou instinctively threw herself into a roll, narrowly avoiding the blast.

But the brute had already entered the courtyard. Su Ming’s sister was in grave danger!

Yan Rou gritted her teeth, her eyes bloodshot. She knew that charging forward now might very well cost her life. But she would never stand by and watch someone die, nor would she cling cowardly to her own life.

Besides, she had promised that bastard she would protect his sister.

With that thought, Yan Rou forced herself upright, drew her gun, and charged forward without hesitation.

Yet when she entered the courtyard, she discovered that the terrifying brute was already lying in a pool of blood.

Su Ming slowly raised his head and appeared before her.

“Officer Yan, this time I was acting in legitimate self-defense, wasn’t I?”

Su Ming had returned ten minutes earlier. How could he possibly feel at ease leaving his sister in the hands of an outsider? In this world, there was no one he trusted that much.

No one except his teacher.

The moment the brute had stepped out of the courtyard, Su Ming had found his opportunity.

Yan Rou walked over in disbelief and examined the body. There were not many wounds—only a knife driven into the heart.

“When did you get back?” Yan Rou asked, looking up at Su Ming.

She suddenly realized that although Su Ming had been cleared of suspicion in Wang Hu’s murder, this man seemed even more frightening than the killer himself.

“If I were you, I’d call an ambulance and get your colleagues treated first.”

Su Ming shrugged and spoke calmly.

Yan Rou frowned. She desperately wanted to know what Su Ming had been doing earlier—and how he had managed to kill such a vicious murderer.

But saving her colleagues was the most urgent matter.

She gave Su Ming a deep look, then took out her phone and made the call.

An hour later...

The scene had been sealed off. After giving his statement, Su Ming immediately took his sister, Yingying, away from the prefab house and booked a room at a hotel.

He could no longer let his sister live there. It was far too dangerous.

Until every member of the Chen family was dead, he would never be able to rest easy.

After settling Yingying in, Su Ming opened his phone and saw the latest report.

“Good evening. We now bring you an update. The crematorium on East Second Street was broken into, and the Criminal Investigation Brigade has begun an investigation. Large amounts of blood and traces of burning have been discovered at the scene.”

“Preliminary examination indicates that the cremation furnace showed signs of having been used to incinerate human remains.”

“The Criminal Investigation Brigade is currently conducting a full investigation into the case.”

...

Upon hearing this, Su Ming drew a deep breath.

This was precisely why he had lured the enemy to the crematorium: to silence them by murder and destroy the evidence by burning the bodies.

Moreover, the twenty urns were probably already on their way to the Chen family’s doorstep.

Next, he would make sure the Chen family died out completely and allow the spirits of his deceased parents to rest in peace.

“Ring! Ring!”

His phone rang. Su Ming picked it up and saw that the call was from the Godfather.

“Your Majesty, the twelve Earl Hunters are ready. We have an important mission tonight. We’ve received intelligence that the Jun Tianxia Group, owned by the Lin family, will hold a launch event for a new drug at the Golden Palace tonight.”

“The assassin organization from the Sakura Nation, the Inada Group, has already prepared an assassination operation.”

“We have made contact with the Lin family’s second master, Lin Zhentian. He will arrange for us to enter the hotel and secretly carry out a protection mission.”

The Godfather spoke over the phone.

Su Ming gave a quiet acknowledgment.

“Come pick me up. I’m at the Kelton Hotel.”

After giving the name, Su Ming hung up.

He glanced at his sister, who seemed to have woken up.

“Yingying, let’s go downstairs and get something to eat.”

Su Ming smiled.

“All right.”

Su Yingying stretched lazily. It was the first time she had ever slept in such a comfortable bed.

It felt wonderful.

...

A short while later, Su Ming brought Su Yingying to the garden restaurant on the hotel rooftop.

There were many guests coming and going, most of them young men and women. The rooftop restaurant was exceedingly luxurious, with crystal chandeliers everywhere and soft carpets covering the floor.

Many young women wore beautiful gowns, trailing the scent of expensive perfume as they moved through the room. Men and women dressed in costly evening wear wore confident smiles as they danced gracefully across the floor.

Su Yingying’s delicate face filled with envy, and her eyes shone brightly.

When she saw the girls in splendid evening gowns dancing in the ballroom, she rested her chin in her hands, her eyes flickering with longing.

Seeing this, Su Ming silently swore to himself:

“Little sister, before long, you’ll be able to stand again.”

“And when that day comes... you’ll become the most beautiful and noble princess in the world.”

Just then, a waiter approached.

“Sir, please follow me to Table Eight.”

The waiter was extremely courteous as he led Su Ming and Su Yingying to their table.

“Sir, would you like to order?”

The waiter asked with a smile.

“Of course. We’ll order now.”

“Yingying, take a look and see what you’d like. Don’t worry about saving money for your brother.”

With that, Su Ming handed her the menu.

“Huh? We’re eating here?”

“Brother, this is far too extravagant. This is a five-star restaurant. And look at these prices—they’re outrageously expensive. One steak costs more than seven hundred yuan.”

“We might as well spend a hundred yuan at Auntie Wang’s and buy two pounds of beef. I could make you braised beef with radish.”

Seeing the prices on the menu, Su Yingying cried out in alarm.

When her parents had still been alive, her life had been ordinary and simple. After they died, she had fallen into poverty. She had never dared hope that she might dine in a luxurious restaurant like this—somewhere she had only ever seen on screen, a place she could experience only in dreams.

At once, she shook her head repeatedly and handed the menu back to the waiter.

“Sir, our restaurant requires a minimum expenditure of three thousand yuan before guests may be seated.”

The waiter frowned and spoke in an embarrassed tone.
