Chapter 111: A Humbling Reversal

Lin Wanyu followed the sound and indeed saw Qin Chuan riding ahead alone, with no one behind him. Yet the smug expression on his face made Lin Wanyu certain that he was gearing up for a grand show—a public display of prowess. Although Lin Wanyu hadn’t yet figured out Qin Chuan’s trump card, she didn’t know why, but whenever she saw him, she felt inexplicably reassured, as if with him around, no problem in the world was insurmountable.
Considering that Lan Jin had called yesterday saying Qin Chuan could help resolve the spokesperson issue, Lin Wanyu’s anticipation only grew.
“Who the hell did you call trash?”
Lu Weiwei, brimming with frustration and nowhere to vent, was cautious when speaking to Lin Wanyu, her client, but toward this so-called “extra” clad entirely in cheap goods, she spared no restraint and cursed outright.
“I didn’t say you! Why are you so worked up? Are you particularly fond of the label ‘trash’? Hey, I’ve never met anyone with such a peculiar fetish—interesting!” Qin Chuan teased with a mischievous grin.
Lu Weiwei’s sharp face twisted into a snarl, but just as she was about to retort fiercely, Yao Qier intervened first.
“Director Lin, although I don’t know your relationship with this gentleman, his words just now upset me greatly. Therefore, I am withdrawing my earlier concession. I’m willing to shoot the endorsement, but the thirty million endorsement fee is non-negotiable.”
Yao Qier had been lamenting the five million she had previously conceded, and now she had a legitimate excuse to reclaim her loss. Although Qin Chuan’s words had bruised her fragile ego, deep down she was grateful to this unexpected visitor.
“A few harsh words won’t hurt anyone. Just consider them the spiteful remarks of jealous rivals and bitter haters!”
Yao Qier comforted herself in this way, and her mood brightened considerably. She even thought if a few insults could earn her five million, she wouldn’t mind being scolded a bit more.
Lu Weiwei was momentarily stunned but inwardly gave her best friend a big thumbs-up for this move—a clever tactic of using a third party to retreat while advancing.
Influenced by the wildly popular drama “Fury,” her best friend hadn’t studied the acting but had taken to the Thirty-Six Stratagems, which indeed turned out to be a cunningly effective approach.
“Indeed, one must read more!” Lu Weiwei thought with appreciation.

“Director Lin, I’ve laid out the conditions for the endorsement. Whether you agree or not is entirely your decision. Blame this foul-mouthed rogue for ruining my good mood during negotiations,” Yao Qier said with a sneer.
Qin Chuan smiled wider and unabashedly gave a thumbs-up. “If your acting skills were even a thousandth as good as your talent for shirking blame, you’d already be a top-tier actress. But no worries, I’ll have a real heavyweight teach you a lesson.”
“A heavyweight? You, a nobody, know any actress bigger than me? That’s the funniest thing I’ve heard all year. Weiwei, don’t you find it hilarious?” Yao Qier mocked.
But soon Yao Qier noticed Lu Weiwei’s expression was off. Normally, with their tacit understanding, her friend would have chimed in to amplify the mockery. Instead, Lu Weiwei stared blankly towards the door, eyes wide with disbelief.
“Weiwei, what’s wrong?”
Yao Qier slowly turned her head, following Lu Weiwei’s gaze.
Her expression shifted from mocking to shocked, then puzzled, finally settling into sheer astonishment—mirroring Lu Weiwei’s exactly.
“From your tone, I thought this was someone familiar in the industry. But… um… can someone tell me what exactly this person does?”
The speaker’s voice was melodious yet arrogant, but Yao Qier found herself unable to refute. The reason was simple: the speaker’s status in the entertainment circle was unshakable, known throughout the industry as Master Tan.
“Master… Master Tan, I’m… Yao Qier, the lead actress of ‘Long Moon Night Unending.’ You can just call me Little Yao,” Yao Qier recovered first from her stunned state after nearly half a minute, transforming into a fawning lapdog with a painfully insincere smile, utterly abandoning her previous arrogance.
“Oh!”
Tan Shuying responded softly. Yao Qier had assumed Tan Shuying knew about the hit web drama, but the next words shattered her spirits.
“I’ve never heard of it.”

Tan Shuying didn’t intend to snub the newcomer; she simply hadn’t heard of the show.
“Right, right, Master Tan stars only in top-tier blockbusters; it’s normal not to know. Here’s my business card. If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to call me… uh, I mean, please feel free to let me know if there’s anything I can do,” Yao Qier hurriedly offered her card. Securing a connection with this powerhouse could skyrocket her standing in the industry. Even a minor role alongside Tan Shuying would greatly boost her fame.
Before Tan Shuying could respond, Qin Chuan stepped forward and took the card with interest. After a glance, he said, “There’s no need to know such a bad-mannered actress, don’t you think?”
Though Qin Chuan appeared to be asking Tan Shuying’s opinion, he had already shredded the card right before Yao Qier’s eyes and waved the pieces in her face.
“You have a point!”
Tan Shuying agreed wholeheartedly.
Slap!
Yao Qier felt as if an invisible hand had struck her cheek. The humiliation and awkwardness burned fiercely, but she dared not show anger—she knew a single word from Tan Shuying could end her career in the entertainment world.
Lu Weiwei shrank back like a turtle hiding in its shell, too intimidated to speak. Facing Tan Shuying’s top-tier status, she had no will to resist and thought it best to leave this trouble spot quickly, signaling Yao Qier to do the same.
Yao Qier pretended not to notice. Reluctant to miss such a golden opportunity, she planned to shamelessly offer her card again.
But Tan Shuying gave no chance for familiarity. She gracefully walked past Yao Qier to Lin Wanyu, smiling as she extended her right hand in greeting.
“Miss Lin, hello. Qin Chuan has already briefed me on your company’s situation. If you don’t mind, I would be willing to shoot the endorsement for Lin Group’s new product free of charge.”
