Staring blankly at the call that had just been disconnected, Qin Chuan’s mouth twitched violently. In the past, he had always been the one to act first and inform others afterward. He had never expected to experience firsthand what it meant for karma to come full circle. Who could escape the will of Heaven?

Naturally, Qin Chuan had no objection to Long Qianqiu’s actions. He simply felt that Long Qianqiu seemed to be keeping a constant eye on his whereabouts. It appeared that his Second Senior Brother had never intended to honor the promise they had made when they parted—to keep their distance.

Obviously, Long Qianqiu was worried that he might encounter danger and was therefore monitoring his movements at all times. The thought left Qin Chuan both amused and helpless. To be honest, with his current strength, there were only a handful of people in the world capable of threatening him.

Even taking the worst-case scenario into account, if he truly encountered one of those old monsters who had remained hidden from the world for decades, Qin Chuan might not be able to defeat them, but escaping unscathed would certainly pose no problem.

Just as Qin Chuan was waiting for the person Long Qianqiu had sent to pick him up, a soft voice came from behind him.

“When are you planning to come to my house and call off our engagement, Qin Chuan?”

Qin Chuan immediately snapped back to reality. Following the voice, he turned and saw Lin Wanyu standing behind him, her expression as cold as frost.

“If you don’t actually want to call off the engagement, I can explain things to the elders of the Lin family. After all, they’re all very much in favor of this marriage, aren’t they?”

Seeing the expression on Lin Wanyu’s face, Qin Chuan instinctively felt like teasing her.

Yet this perfectly ordinary joke made Lin Wanyu feel as though her innermost thoughts had been exposed, filling her with embarrassment. After all, she had always maintained an adamant opposition to the marriage.

“Stop dreaming. I can’t wait for you to call it off, so that whenever people hear I have a fiancé, they won’t be too intimidated to come to my door and propose.”

Lin Wanyu struck back almost instinctively.

Qin Chuan sighed inwardly. Lin Wanyu was suspected of possessing a Profound Yin constitution. Setting the engagement aside, that constitution was extraordinarily compatible with his own special condition, which could claim his life at any moment. Whenever he imagined his destined partner being held in another man’s arms, it would be a lie to say he felt no disappointment or regret.

“Once I’ve finished dealing with everything on my plate, I’ll go to your house and settle this. Besides, didn’t you make a bet with the elders of your family? This is the perfect time to fulfill the terms of that wager. Then I can call off the engagement openly and honorably.”

Having composed himself, Qin Chuan spoke in a low voice.

Lin Wanyu nodded without saying anything more and turned to leave. Yet even she could not understand why, now that Qin Chuan would soon be able to call off the engagement openly, she felt the faintest trace of disappointment and unwillingness deep within her heart.

Watching her vaguely desolate retreating figure, Qin Chuan almost wondered whether he was imagining things. At that moment, however, Long Wuhen’s emotionless voice suddenly came from behind him.

“Qin Chuan, someone outside is looking for you.”

“I know.”

Qin Chuan came back to himself. He glanced at Liu Qingcheng and Lan Jin, who were still surrounded by a crowd in the distance, and said, “Tell them I have an urgent matter to deal with. I may be out of contact for a few days.”

“What about our engagement?” Long Wuhen asked in return.

Without a moment’s hesitation, Qin Chuan replied, “I’ll go to the Long family once I’ve finished dealing with this matter.”

Qin Chuan was about to leave when Long Wuhen continued in a voice only the two of them could hear.

“You killed Long Tiancheng?”

Qin Chuan was initially startled, but he soon realized that Long Wuhen had merely reached that conclusion through deduction. He had handled the entire affair so flawlessly that there was no way anyone could have uncovered the truth. As for Zhuo Yihu, he certainly would not dare betray him. The only other person connected to the matter was Long Wuhen, since Qin Chuan had asked her to investigate Long Tiancheng.

“More or less,” Qin Chuan answered ambiguously.

He had assumed Long Wuhen would continue questioning him about the details, but instead, she simply left him with a carefree silhouette and turned away.

Qin Chuan shook his head helplessly. That woman certainly had a personality—and she knew exactly where to draw the line. Of course, it was even more likely that this outcome was simply the one most beneficial to her. As for the process, who really cared?

After quickly leaving the reception, Qin Chuan arrived at the entrance of Dragon Imperial Villa. A military-style, dark-green off-road vehicle was parked outside. Leaning against its door was a long-haired woman dressed in a black, form-fitting leather top and leather pants.

At first, Qin Chuan assumed she was Mo Qingqiu, since their figures were remarkably similar.

Only when he drew closer did he realize that she was not Mo Qingqiu. It was not because he had clearly seen her face, but because his sharp eyes had determined that two crucial features of the woman leaning against the car were a size larger than Mo Qingqiu’s.

In short, she was curvier and more provocatively shaped.

While Qin Chuan was examining the woman, she was examining him as well. The instant their eyes met, Qin Chuan felt an intensely murderous aura.

It was the kind of killing intent forged only by repeatedly crawling along the edge of life and death. Qin Chuan could also tell that the woman was deliberately releasing it. Clearly, she wanted to give him a show of force.

“Where did this inexplicable hostility come from?”

Qin Chuan racked his brains. After studying the woman again, he realized that he did not know her at all. There was no way they could have a grudge between them.

“Qin Chuan?”

The woman’s voice was cold. Yet unlike Lin Wanyu, whose bearing was that of an elite corporate executive, this woman possessed the icy indifference of someone decisive and ruthless, someone who regarded death with utter contempt.

Qin Chuan nodded and asked in return, “Were you sent by the Dragon King?”

The woman did not answer. She simply threw out, “Get in,” then opened the door and took the driver’s seat.

Another haughty woman, Qin Chuan thought to himself. Looks like I’ll have to tame her the hard way.

He climbed into the vehicle as well.

The woman’s hair hung down to her shoulders, completely concealing her face. Qin Chuan had intended to turn sideways and study her for a moment. After all, the only way to break through the defenses of a cold, aloof woman like this was to have an extraordinarily thick skin.

Before Qin Chuan had even settled into his seat, however, the woman abruptly shifted into reverse and slammed down on the accelerator. Even Qin Chuan was thrown back against the seat.

He instinctively reached for his seat belt to steady himself, but the woman suddenly wrenched the wheel and stomped on the brakes, executing a stylish reverse drift. The momentum nearly sent Qin Chuan flying out of the vehicle.

Out of the corner of his eye, Qin Chuan saw the faintest curve tug at the woman’s lips as her long hair whipped through the air.

This woman was definitely up to no good.

Having confirmed his suspicion, Qin Chuan quickly made up his mind. The next time she tried something, he would even the score. Whenever there was an opportunity, he deliberately acted as though he had suddenly lost his balance and been thrown sideways. In reality, his body remained suspended in midair at an extremely strange angle.

He was practically creating opportunities for her to cause trouble.

And indeed, the woman could not resist the perfect chance to avenge her sworn sister. She immediately accelerated, then slammed on the brakes again, intending to give Qin Chuan a pleasant collision inside the vehicle. She could already imagine him being battered and bruised, his face swollen and battered.

Yet before the scene in her mind had completely faded, she suddenly saw a figure pounce toward the driver’s seat like an octopus.

In particular, the figure’s two hands were unmistakably reaching toward the peaks before her.
