Chapter 112: Seizing the Divine Spring
Leng Tian did not concern himself with what might transpire between Ling Wushuang and An Ye. His focus was entirely on the two ferocious beasts below; if they did not leave, securing the Divine Spring would prove extremely difficult.
In this brief interval, three experts of the Profound Entrance realm had already perished under the onslaught of fireballs and icy chills. In truth, they had not come to the Ancient Realm for the Divine Spring; they had been dispatched by their respective factions for training and to scavenge for rare treasures, with the collection of the Divine Spring never being the primary objective of their journey.
Most had been drawn to Fenglan Island by the lure of their own greed, harboring the hope that by seizing the Divine Spring, they could ascend to higher realms, thereby gaining status, glory, and a smooth path for their future.
As the saying goes, curiosity kills the cat. They had all come with the intent to fish in troubled waters, hoping to secure a share of the spoils. Yet, luck often favors the strong, while the weak—unless blessed with extraordinary fortune—are often left unaware of how they met their end.
The warriors, many of whom were already injured, had long since lost their usual imposing aura, scurrying about like stray dogs to evade the terrifying attacks of the four beasts.
The roaring fireballs seemed eternal, chasing the scattering warriors without pause. Sheets of frost instantly blanketed entire sections, sealing off the path of one expert. A row of bone spurs on the back of a beast flashed like lightning, launching one with such speed that before the warrior could even release his protective aura, the sharp spur had pierced his chest. With eyes bulging, he was swept by a wave of cold air and frozen into a solid block of ice.
A massive tail swept across, smashing the frozen warrior against the wall, reducing him to mere blood, bone, and ice shards scattered across the floor.
Li Tianzheng let out a thunderous roar, his great spear dancing as hundreds of spear beams formed a fan-shaped web that shredded a wind-blade tornado conjured by a beast. As he wielded the spear, it spun with such extreme velocity that the air around it erupted in a series of sonic booms.
Gazing at the beast that charged toward him with earth-shaking steps, capable of spitting wind blades, a frantic glint flickered in his dark, deep eyes. He let out a long howl that echoed throughout the entire plaza.
Leng Tian watched intently, seeing only a blur of motion accompanied by a black spear flashing past the beast. The spear had pierced the creature’s abdomen, and Li Tianzheng, grabbing the tip from behind, pulled the entire weapon out of its body.
The beast’s massive frame came to a sudden halt. Two jets of blood sprayed from the front and back wounds, staining the ground crimson. Yet, the wounded creature emitted no pained cry; instead, it moved its sturdy hind legs to turn around, fixing its icy gaze upon Li Tianzheng, who stood with his spear leveled.
The wounds on its abdomen were healing at a speed visible to the naked eye. "As expected of a bloodline modified by laws; this regenerative power far exceeds my own," Leng Tian mused, marveling at the unfathomable might of the gods.
However, accidents are inevitable. Just as the beast's wounds were nearing full closure, Wang Mang, who had been skirmishing with the frost-breathing beast, seized an opportunity. Slipping away from an attack, he flashed behind the injured creature. A black gauntlet, imbued with Dark Laws, appeared on his right hand, flickering with the destructive power of the law.
Wang Mang struck the beast's wound with his right fist, and the destructive Dark Law energy surged into the creature's body.
With a dull thud, Wang Mang’s punch tore a blood hole in the wound, his arm sinking halfway into the beast's body. The Dark Law energy from his gauntlet began to rapidly dissolve the Ice Laws within the beast’s bloodline.
"Brother Li, what are you waiting for?!" Wang Mang bellowed at Li Tianzheng.
Li Tianzheng swung his spear, using the recoil to leap onto the beast's head. With the spear tip pointing downward, he rubbed his hands together, causing the weapon to spin rapidly like a top. He slapped the butt of the spear, and with a "puff," the black weapon pierced straight through the beast's skull. Only the end remained in Li Tianzheng's grasp. With a roar, he pulled the spear out and used the momentum to vault high into the air. Just as he departed, a bone-studded tail swept past, decapitating the frost-breathing beast in a single stroke.
Scarlet blood surged from the chest cavity like a fountain, reaching two meters high. But it did not end there; the beast’s body had already accumulated violent energy.
Wang Mang’s Dark Law energy and the beast’s own Ice Law energy clashed and dissipated, but ultimately, both were left battered. This resulted in the turbulent energy of both laws colliding.
The headless body of the beast collapsed onto the ground, blood still flowing from its chest, yet the torso began to swell. It grew until it became a hill-sized ball of flesh, and before the horrified eyes of the warriors, it exploded. The violent energy, mixed with two conflicting laws, shot into the sky, forming a black-and-white mushroom cloud that blanketed the entire plaza.
Seeing this, Leng Tian smiled with satisfaction. As the turbulent law energy swept past, he dove toward the stone trough holding the Divine Spring.
Li Tianzheng had a green bowl inverted over his head, releasing a pillar of green runic light that shielded him firmly. No matter how the chaotic energy surged, the runic pillar merely flickered, neutralizing the massive impact.
Wang Mang was also enveloped in Dark Law energy. Though not as steady as Li Tianzheng, he remained unharmed, though he was swept high into the air like a drifting boat.
The most miserable was An Ye, who had been ambushed by Leng Tian and then frozen. Just as his bodily functions were recovering, the incoming turbulent law energy froze him once more, and the infused Dark Law energy seeped through his skin.
Although he was a cultivator of Demonic Yuan energy, once a higher-level law energy invaded his body, there was only one outcome: his body would explode.
Ling Wushuang, hiding in the shadows, watched An Ye frozen in ice with a look of disappointment. He had wanted to kill him personally, but fate had dictated otherwise.
With a sudden realization, he turned toward the pool and saw Leng Tian standing beside the stone trough. A flash of crimson light enveloped the entire vessel.
Sensing something, Leng Tian glanced toward Ling Wushuang's direction before using the crimson light to siphon off most of the Divine Spring, leaving only a small amount behind.
Having crossed paths with Li Tianzheng and Wang Mang before—even capturing an Abyss Demon together—he left some for them as a sign of mutual respect.
"Heh... It seems resources in the Great World have become so scarce that they must enter a sub-world to scramble for this mere sub-divine power. Returning to the Great World shouldn't be too difficult, then!"
Leng Tian had collected the spring water in a mere breath's time. Under the cover of the violent energy, only Li Tianzheng and Wang Mang seemed to notice, but the first to react were the two remaining beasts. They lunged into the air, opening their mouths to spew two earthy-yellow energy orbs.
The orbs landed exactly where Leng Tian had been. Upon contact, they dissipated and expanded, instantly forming a brilliant yellow energy barrier that sealed off the stone trough and the entire pool of true energy.
"A defensive barrier of Earth Laws. I wonder how this kid will get out of there!" Ling Wushuang, seeing the pool encased in the yellow energy, felt his curiosity piqued. He decided to seize the opportunity to observe Leng Tian's methods.
"Boss, we're trapped! The god is long gone, and yet they left these formidable guardians behind. Who without Profound Entrance cultivation could possibly withstand this?"
Judah, whose Formless body had been eroded by the earlier law energy, had lost quite a bit of energy. Fortunately, the purity of the two laws wasn't high enough, or he would have been severely injured.
Leng Tian studied the yellow barrier, his mind racing for a way out, but he ultimately dismissed the idea of a brute-force breakthrough, shifting his gaze to the pool instead.
"Boss, what do we do? I can't break through this law barrier; it's up to you," Judah said, his voice weak. Then, he realized something: "Where does this Azure Sea Divine Spring come from? I mean, how does it condense into this trough?"
"Naturally, it is the condensation of the ocean's essence," Leng Tian replied. A sharp glint appeared in his eyes as he smiled. "It seems we are meant to leave. This pool must connect to the ocean below. With your 'Void Transformation,' taking us out should be easy!"
"Heh... That’s exactly what I was thinking! Let those guys fight to the death; we've made a bountiful harvest and are leaving..." After Judah finished speaking, he revealed his true form, pulled Leng Tian into his body, and entered the pool using Void Transformation.
"A Formless Shadow Demon? What is his origin? How is he together with a Formless Shadow Demon that specializes in devouring souls? No wonder I couldn't detect his presence earlier; Void Transformation truly lives up to its reputation!"
Ling Wushuang, watching through the yellow barrier as Judah revealed his true form, instantly recognized the creature. His curiosity about Leng Tian deepened. He was desperate to know how he managed to tame a Formless Shadow Demon, not to mention those thousands of Yuan-Devouring Insects—both were heaven-defying tools!
Just as Ling Wushuang was lost in thought, a beast-like roar erupted from behind him, followed by a surging pressure mixed with the lingering aftermath of the raging laws.
