Chapter 131: He Is a First-Generation Wealth Creator! (Happy New Year)
"This afternoon, a large auction is being held at the Zhong family estate. They are auctioning off a piece of jewelry and a painting. The head of the Zhong family has requested our SWAT team to provide security."
After the team had assembled, Huo Xinxi made the announcement.
Yang Fan was stunned. Had the Zhong family lost their minds? They started as a trading firm—out of all the things to learn, why imitate an auction house? And to call in the SWAT team just for an auction? Did they really think their little event was such a grand affair?
"Why should we care? The Zhong family are just idiots," Yang Fan grumbled. He would much rather spend his free time sleeping.
The others were speechless, and even Huo Xinxi looked like she was on the verge of a breakdown. Even if the Zhong family were idiots, he didn't have to say it to their faces!
"Alright, it's 9:30 now. We depart for the Zhong estate at 11:00 sharp!"
Yang Fan sighed. Once the team was dismissed, he found a patch of grass and promptly fell asleep. He hadn't slept at all the night before, so he decided to grab an hour of rest.
At 10:30, Yang Fan was jolted awake by the cold. Even with the sunlight, the dead of winter was bitter.
He opened his eyes and mentally reviewed the billionaire rankings. The Tianning tycoon group was essentially a network radiating from a single focal point. Leaving aside the top fifty, the rest of the families—from the fiftieth rank downwards—followed a tiered structure. Families like the Han and Jiang were attached to different patrons, and the Zhong family was different yet again. This was just the situation for those ranked between fiftieth and one hundredth.
Beyond the hundredth rank, they weren't even considered proper families, as they lacked the qualifications to attach themselves to a major house. Thus, the hundredth rank was a watershed line.
Take Old Chen, for instance; he was ranked 132nd, and his goal was to squeeze into the top hundred. That was the dream for Yang Fan, Liu Mingfeng, and Boss Qian as well.
"He thought to himself, 'I might as well take a look today. That wouldn't be bad at all!'"
"Assemble! Assemble! Over there, Yang Fan, come and assemble!" Little Liu blew his whistle to signal the start of the mission.
Yang Fan stood up and walked over.
"It's 10:50, let's move out!" Huo Xinxi began splitting the groups. Naturally, Yang Fan was in her group, with her and Little Liu leading their respective teams.
As the groups finished organizing and prepared to leave, Yang Fan called out, "Wait, hold on!"
"What's wrong, Yang Fan? Do you have any questions?" Little Liu asked.
"We can't go looking like this. Anyone who doesn't know better would think we're just security guards. We can't tarnish the reputation of the SWAT team—we are SWAT!" Yang Fan declared.
Little Liu gave a wry smile. They would love to dress better, but they had to be able to afford it! The others looked at one another, not daring to speak up.
"Then how do you suggest we dress?" Little Liu asked with a laugh.
"That's easy. You know E-Mei, right? We'll go there first, change into some clothes, and then head out."
The others wanted to smack him. The cheapest items at E-Mei cost tens of thousands. Did he expect them to live on air for the rest of the year just for a change of clothes?
Little Liu’s face twitched, and Huo Xinxi glared at Yang Fan. "You have money, don't go corrupting the organization!"
"Why are you all staring at me? Let's go! I'll pay for it. I have some non-refundable vouchers anyway—might as well use them!"
The group gasped. In their minds, they subconsciously multiplied the number of people by the minimum cost of fifty thousand, and their worldview was upended once again.
In truth, Yang Fan had no choice. He had taken the vouchers from Sister Ying's room. Since the beautiful sales clerks at E-Mei had already taken their commissions, he couldn't very well make them return them, so he hadn't bothered to get a refund. Being the kind person he was, he couldn't possibly let those beauties suffer a loss!
"Let's move, then!" Huo Xinxi ordered.
There was no denying that Yang Fan's image in everyone's eyes had risen even higher—he was the quintessential example of someone with more money than sense, and there was no second place. Of course, everyone knew that Yang Fan was easygoing. Jokes were jokes, but they had long held a deep admiration for him.
Especially with the few new female interns, who were wondering: who said that life in the SWAT team was bitter? Let them come out—they promised they wouldn't beat them to death!
In the SUV, Huo Xinxi sat with Yang Fan and two of the young female interns who were his fans.
"Yang Fan, can I interview you? Do you just have so much money you don't know where to spend it?" Huo Xinxi asked with a wry smile.
"Don't even mention it. Ever since Lin Ruo confiscated my cards and cash, if I want to keep a little beauty, I have to rely on these vouchers!"
Huo Xinxi was speechless, and the two girls in the back exchanged glances. They didn't understand the world of the wealthy.
"So, young ladies, do you have boyfriends?"
Huo Xinxi slapped him on the arm. "Don't go corrupting the innocent girls of the SWAT team!"
"Why did you hit me?"
"Your wife isn't here, so I have to keep an eye on you. Don't let her come looking for me, accusing me of playing matchmaker!" Huo Xinxi said.
"I... I was clearly going to introduce them to my good brothers!" Yang Fan was speechless. Did they really think he was a predator who went after everyone he saw? "If you don't have boyfriends, I'll introduce you to some of my good brothers one of these days!"
"Are they rich?"
"Yeah, I want a rich boyfriend too!"
Huo Xinxi dropped her head into her hands. They really had been corrupted!
At E-Mei, Yang Fan led the group inside and began picking out clothes without batting an eye. The group of over twenty people caused a stir throughout the store.
"That one, that one, and that whole rack—pack them all for me!"
The only sound in the room was the collective intake of breath. Even the sales clerks were wondering if they should find an opportunity to strike up a conversation. It was good to be rich...
They didn't just get one outfit, but two per person. After Yang Fan settled the bill, he left behind another mysterious legend. A clerk chased after him; because Yang Fan’s one-time purchase exceeded a million, E-Mei gifted him several pieces of jewelry as a New Year's promotion.
Yang Fan didn't even bother taking them in the car. "Little sister, they're yours. I think they'll look perfect on you. You're so beautiful even without makeup."
The clerk blushed deep red. "Mr. Yang, that’s against store policy..."
"Little sister, just take it. It’s a gift from Yang Fan to his girlfriend," Huo Xinxi teased.
"That's right, Yang Fan just said he liked you!"
The clerk blushed even harder, planted a kiss on Yang Fan's cheek, and ran off.
"I..."
The car was filled with laughter.
"Aren't you guys setting me up?" Yang Fan asked, feeling miserable.
"We aren't setting you up. We clearly just found you another one; you should be thanking us!" Huo Xinxi laughed.
"Another ticking time bomb," Yang Fan sighed dejectedly.
The car started up and headed toward the Zhong estate.
"I wonder if the Zhong family is providing lunch?" Yang Fan mused.
