Chapter 135: Get Lost as Far as You Can
Yang Fan’s identity as the Internet-famous Bear was rather special, so he stood proudly in the spotlight. Zhong Ziyan appeared, her entire body shimmering with silver light—the radiance of her necklace, dazzling beneath the sun.
And then there was her dress, inlaid with jade. In her hands, she held a painting!
The entire venue erupted in astonishment...
Yang Fan was dumbstruck as well. Since he was standing below the stage, his angle was different from everyone else’s. He could see beneath her skirt.
“The auction begins.”
There was no unnecessary opening speech. In truth, none was needed. The invitations had made everything perfectly clear: whoever won the Zhong family heirloom would marry the eldest daughter of the Zhong family, Zhong Ziyan!
“One dollar!”
“Two!”
“...”
The entire venue nearly collapsed. Were they here to make a joke?
Naturally, this was Yang Fan’s arrangement. It was the way a shameless rogue operated.
Jiang Bo’s face twitched. Han Fei’s side burst into laughter, while even Jiang Huai let out a cold sneer. The young heirs of the other families simply treated it as a show.
After all, the alliance between the Jiang and Zhong families would not cost them anything. A marriage alliance could be a good thing, but it might not be entirely good either. So what if the two of you joined families? Would the two great clans above you, who were at odds with each other, agree to it?
For the moment, they were simply too lazy to interfere. But when the marriage truly took place, they would probably come forward to say their piece.
Everyone was more than happy to see that day arrive. Besides, even if the marriage really happened, they would suffer no loss. It was a matter between the Jiang and Zhong families, and it would be inconvenient for them to meddle.
“I bid one hundred million!” Jiang Bo shouted.
“I bid one hundred million and one!”
“One hundred million and two!”
“...”
Jiang Bo shot them a furious glare. Naturally, the Han family was not afraid of him, and they continued shouting their bids with laughter.
“Han Fei, control your people.”
“They’re my people, and I’ll control them myself. But a beauty like Miss Zhong is someone everyone wants to marry, isn’t she?”
“I bid one hundred million and eight.” Han Fei announced a price that nearly made the entire venue topple over.
“I bid one hundred million and one hundred!” the Song family called out from the right, joining in.
“Young Master Han, you can’t compete with your juniors!”
“I’m not competing with you, but everyone else won’t allow me to stop. Come on, come on, raise the price!”
“I bid five hundred million!”
“Five hundred million and one!”
“...”
The other young heirs began raising the bids in the same shameless fashion.
Yang Fan grinned from ear to ear. At last, he had stirred the entire venue into action!
When it came to shameless auctions, Yang Fan had truly learned his lesson. The method did not need to be novel, so long as it worked.
Jiang Bo was on the verge of collapse. He and his boss had already analyzed the situation. Many people should still be watching from the sidelines, so the marriage ought to be virtually guaranteed. That was why they had agreed to let Elder Zhong use the family’s ancestral precepts to arrange the engagement.
That way, everything would be entirely legitimate.
But why had all these young heirs suddenly gone wild?
Elder Zhong had already been placed under house arrest, so it certainly could not have been him contacting them. Zhong Ziyan was being guarded as well, making it impossible for her to have done it.
Then who was behind this?
Gritting his teeth, Jiang Bo shouted, “Ten billion!”
“Ten billion and...”
Jiang Bo completely broke down. He knew exactly what it meant for all those young heirs to disrupt the auction.
If he could not marry Zhong Ziyan, he could not enjoy her as her husband. And without that, he would be unable to remove the heart from Ye Ziyan’s chest!
That heart was the highest symbol of the Zhong family’s controllable assets. All the financial dealings of the Zhong family’s enterprises, as well as the clans that depended upon the Zhong family, recognized only that heart.
To obtain it, Zhong Ziyan had either to fall in love and willingly give herself to a man, or become his wife and consummate the marriage. That was why Elder Zhong had been imprisoned. Even killing Ye Ziyan would be useless, because if Zhong Ziyan were killed, the heart would vanish automatically, and all the Zhong family’s assets would be donated automatically.
Threatening Zhong Ziyan with Elder Zhong’s safety would be useless as well. She wanted to hand over the heart, but she simply did not love him.
As for becoming husband and wife, the auction was the only path. The heart had been passed down through the Zhong family for generations and possessed a will of its own, automatically detecting any attempt at cheating. Even if someone forcibly slept with Zhong Ziyan, the heart could not be taken.
Thus, Jiang Bo and his boss had exhausted every possible method and could only rely on this one.
“Twenty billion!”
“Twenty billion and...”
The entire venue erupted once more, and Jiang Bo collapsed completely.
“Han Fei, don’t push it too far!”
“Did I say anything? I haven’t even called out a bid. Everyone else is doing that.”
As he spoke, Han Fei rose to his feet and shouted at the top of his lungs:
“Is Zhong Ziyan beautiful?”
“Beautiful!” the entire venue roared.
“Do you want to marry her?”
“We do!”
Anyone unaware of the situation might have thought this was a concert.
Onstage, Zhong Ziyan remained expressionless...
“Remember this: the Zhong family has money to spare. Whatever we bid now, we can have Zhong Ziyan take back from her maiden family later. Bid as much as you like. Even if you offer five hundred billion, it will still be the Zhong family’s money.”
Jiang Bo collapsed completely. Yet the atmosphere grew even more heated. After all, none of them were spending their own money.
Jiang Huai truly admired Yang Fan now. This method was simply too shameless.
“I bid ten billion!”
“Twenty billion and one!” Han Fei once again took the lead, and one bid after another immediately followed from behind him.
Jiang Bo was absolutely frantic. He desperately gestured toward the stage, then made a slashing motion across his throat.
Through the Eye of the Heavenly Net, Yang Fan saw everything. Fortunately, the Eye of the Heavenly Net was still functioning. His gaze turned icy.
Zhong Ziyan saw it too. She understood what it meant: he wanted her to stop the auction. But while Zhong Ziyan was still working out how to cancel it, Yang Fan snatched a flower from one of the nearby attendants, rushed onto the stage, swept her into his arms, and carried her away.
After all, as the Internet-famous Bear, he had carried off young ladies countless times before!
“Who is that?” Jiang Bo shot to his feet. But he had been standing among the crowd below the stage, and could only watch helplessly as Zhong Ziyan was carried away.
“I...”
“Come on, keep calling out your bids! Stand up and shout!” Han Fei was covering for Yang Fan. With a great uproar, everyone enthusiastically rose to their feet. Jiang Bo was trapped behind the crowd, on the verge of tears.
“Get someone here quickly! The eldest daughter of the Zhong family has been abducted!” Jiang Bo shouted.
But even with his attendants behind him, his voice could not compete with the voices of more than two hundred people.
“It’s fine. Everyone, keep bidding. The Internet-famous Bear was only trying to liven up the atmosphere!”
Jiang Huai sneered. Behind him, Huo Xinxie and the others did not move either.
“He’s fooled us out of another one!” Huo Xinxie said with a bitter smile. Then, after thinking it over, she realized she truly had to step up her efforts.
Otherwise, she would not even be able to hold on to a place in the top ten. She was clearly supposed to rank ahead of Wang Yun.
In the restroom, Yang Fan locked the door.
“Yang Fan!” Zhong Ziyan exclaimed.
“How did you know it was me?” Yang Fan asked as he removed the head of the Internet-famous Bear costume.
“Intuition. My mother was a Heart Painter, and I inherited her gift.”
Yang Fan’s eyes widened. He pressed her directly against the wall.
For some reason, it was still Zhong Ziyan’s eyes that lingered relentlessly in his mind...
“Why did you betray me?”
