Chapter 14: You Scoundrel
Yang Fan left with the twin sisters, leaving behind only the sweet pair immersed in the darkness. From now on, his connection with Bai Tiantian would forever be frozen in the most beautiful days of their university years.
The twin sisters were equally astonished, for Yang Fan’s abilities were nothing short of extraordinary. The three of them always maintained the same formation: the younger twin stood in the middle, separating Yang Fan from her older sister. Through this, Yang Fan learned their names—Lin Ruo and Lin Xi.
“What exactly did you do to my sister?” Lin Ruo was still hung up on this question.
“Your sister? Well, she’s fallen in love with me,” Yang Fan replied, trying to brush it off.
“Do you really believe that?”
“I do!” Yang Fan answered confidently.
Remembering that the money he had left was meant for dinner with Zhao Jing, Yang Fan made a quick stop at the main lecture hall to borrow some cash from Liu Haoyu, telling the sisters to head home first—back to the Garden Apartments.
Before they left, Yang Fan rented them each an Engraving Technique, using Wang Huai’s card without the slightest hesitation or regret. After all, he’d brought happiness to those two; spending a bit of their money was the least he could do!
As for the jacket, he rented a safety deposit box to carry it with him, and in no time, he'd rented a large number of items, draining the card completely. With only this consumption channel, anyone trying to trace the money’s whereabouts would find nothing.
Waving goodbye to the sisters, Yang Fan headed straight into the lecture hall. Zhang Chen and the others bombarded him with questions, but Yang Fan simply told them he’d set Wang Huai and Bai Tiantian up together and could expect their gratitude soon enough.
Sure enough, when Bai Tiantian entered, she walked directly over to Yang Fan and thanked him. This, of course, was the effect of the memory alteration. When Yang Fan and his friends greeted her, they all knew she would marry into a wealthy family and live happily ever after. With the thread of fate tying her to Wang Huai, Bai Tiantian was destined to become his bride.
After four years, his heart was finally at peace. Yang Fan was in high spirits. The evening was meant for everyone to bond, and with no professors present, there was no reason to leave early—especially since the roll call could happen at any time.
This was the most frustrating part for everyone, and as they chatted, Yang Fan started a video call with Zhao Jing to show her just how exasperated he was.
“Sister-in-law, hello!”
“Hello, little sister-in-law!”
Zhang Chen and the others, ever the troublemakers, not only fought over the phone but insisted on greeting Zhao Jing as well, leaving her on the other end thoroughly embarrassed.
Time flew by, and before he knew it, it was nine o’clock. At the school gate, Yang Fan saw Wang Huai waiting for Bai Tiantian. Yang Fan waved to them.
“Such loving couples—how wonderful life is.”
“Uncle, how did you convince them? I was worried you wouldn’t make it back.”
Yang Fan glared at him. “Do I look like an ordinary person to you?”
Liu Haoyu shook his head vigorously. This would become a secret the whole group speculated about, but Yang Fan had no intention of telling them the truth.
At the gate, they split up: Zhang Chen went to pick up Xu Zihan and Ai Xiaomei, while Yang Fan and the others found a night market for a late-night snack, only returning home around midnight.
Yang Fan explained the sudden appearance of Lin Ruo and Lin Xi by saying they were bodyguards. They’d brought food for the sisters, and their stunning beauty made Zhang Chen and the others stare in awe.
With bodyguards like that, who wouldn’t be intimidated?
“Brother, did Sun Wukong finally rescue Ikkyu-san? And what about Xiong Da? Last time you said he and Pleasant Goat went to settle the score with Granny Wolf—did they win?”
Everyone was bewildered by this sudden invasion of unrelated storylines.
Lin Ruo and Lin Xi went to bed early, sleeping in Xu Zihan’s room; as for Xu Zihan, she’d lately been squeezed into Ai Xiaomei’s bed—though, truth be told, it was always Ai Xiaomei seeking her out.
Night deepened.
“Sis, can you tell me what he really did to you?” Lin Ruo asked again.
Lin Xi was also awake but remained silent.
“Please, tell me, will you?”
Lin Xi still said nothing. The sisters simply held each other tight.
The next day, Ai Xiaomei was up early, and it was her persistent questioning that finally forced Yang Fan awake. She was relentless, pressing him for answers to the stories she was obsessed with.
But Yang Fan had no idea. As the saying goes, every story begins with a question, but the content is all improvised. He was simply out of ideas.
With Ai Xiaomei keeping him up, he had no hope of going back to sleep. Fortunately, Xu Zihan soon called Ai Xiaomei away for the day’s film shoot.
Yang Fan was thrilled at the prospect of more sleep, but just as he was dozing off, Lin Ruo and Lin Xi entered. He quickly locked his bedroom door, changed clothes, and left to buy breakfast.
“So, are you two coming with me today, or staying home?”
But as soon as he asked, he remembered his date with Zhao Jing that evening. There would be no date if he brought the twins along.
“Never mind, it’s not convenient today. You’d better stay home. I’ve got a date tonight.”
Lin Xi’s face remained impassive, but Lin Ruo was clearly displeased.
“Don’t you love my sister?”
“I don’t love her; she’s the one who loves me,” Yang Fan replied earnestly.
“You—you scoundrel!” Lin Ruo was about to lash out on her sister’s behalf. Her sister was her whole world, her only family left.
“Don’t, sister!” Lin Xi stopped her.
“Did you hear him? He’s going on a date. Why keep such a fickle man around?” Lin Ruo scolded.
“Sis, loving him is my business. Whether he loves me or not is none of mine.”
Furious, Lin Ruo stood up, skipped breakfast, and stormed back to her room. But with the situation as it was, she dared not leave. If Yang Fan could say such things with her present, who knew what he’d do to her sister if she wasn’t there to watch over things.
After she left, Lin Xi remained seated.
“My sister doesn’t know,” she said after a long silence.
“It’s fine, I don’t blame her,” Yang Fan replied. At that moment, his heart was overflowing with affection, but once the slave mark was set, not even he could lift it.
“Here, have some meat!” Yang Fan piled a large helping onto Lin Xi’s plate, and she nodded silently.
Whatever Lin Xi said to her sister, by noon Lin Ruo had cooled off, though she still kept her aloof demeanor.
In the end, the twins stuck with Yang Fan, who felt they really needed something to do.
At that moment, Yang Fan received a message. He glanced at his phone.
“Haoyu, is Four Seasons Melody KTV also owned by the Liu family?”
“Yes, Uncle, it belongs to the Li family. Four Seasons Melody just opened.”
Yang Fan nodded.
“What’s up?”
“There’s a company party tonight, and we’re meeting there!”
