Chapter 145: Class Reunion (Part II)
Some people are detestable for no apparent reason, while others are inexplicably lovable.
Take Yang Fan and Liang He, for instance. Liang He cannot be called a bad person; he belongs to the category of the wealthy and handsome, and he is very good to women. At the very least, as far as Wang Yun knew, he was the quintessential "warm man." Yet, she simply felt nothing for him. Perhaps this is what people call having the fate to meet but not the fortune to be together.
Wang Yun spoke with a carefree, heartless candor that suddenly made Liang He feel awkward.
"Look at you, I treat you like a younger sister, so of course a big brother should use a nickname!" Liang He said, trying to smooth over the awkwardness.
"Class Monitor Liang, how come you only remember Wang Yun and not the rest of us?" An Lan interjected from the side.
"How could I forget you?" Liang He replied with a smile.
"Then, Monitor, come sit on this side. Wang Yun’s seat is already taken."
"Taken?" Liang He was startled.
"Didn't you see she’s already wearing a wedding ring?"
Xiao Yu said this loudly enough that everyone at the gathering couldn't help but look over. A campus belle who had only left school half a year ago was already married? Liang He was even more dejected; after chasing her for years, she hadn't even given him a second glance. He did not know that Wang Yun was not trying to act unattainable; she simply had never intended to find a boyfriend.
"Are you really married?" Liang He asked, unable to believe it.
"Yes, I really am married. So, I’m sorry," Wang Yun said, which she felt was the closure he deserved.
"Look at you, why are you saying sorry? Aren't you still my little sister?" Liang He kept his expression neutral, though the hatred bubbling in his heart was nearly overwhelming.
"I came this time to make things clear: I am truly married, so there's no need for you to keep calling me so frequently in the future."
"You are just overthinking things. If we can't be lovers, can't we still be friends? Even if we can't be friends, we’re still classmates, right?" Deep within Liang He’s subconscious, the demon within him was gritting its teeth. This obsession had finally curdled into something truly malevolent. *Today, if I don't ruin you or make you come begging to me, I’ll have wasted all these years of effort.*
Wang Yun was truly at a loss for words, but since she had made it clear this time, there was nothing left to say. They had never started, so how could anyone be accused of betrayal? She had told him long ago not to waste his time on her.
Everyone could see the disappointment in Liang He’s heart. As mere spectators, they might have helped him if she weren't married, but now that she was, what could they do? Tell her to get a divorce?
"Where is your husband? Why don't you introduce us?" Liang He looked around, but saw no one.
"Oh, he’s the one who went outside to take a call. You ran into him when you first walked in," Wang Yun said, taking a sip of water.
Liang He’s mind raced. Was it that man who had locked eyes with him for a few seconds? He began to harbor resentment toward Yang Fan as well.
"In this world, money makes the mare go. If I don't make you two come begging to me today, I might as well stop being a rich second generation!"
"So, Class Monitor, just come sit here. Don't make his wife wait; if he comes back and sees this seat occupied, they might argue tonight!"
"Right, right, then I really should sit over there." Liang He stood up and took the seat. Wang Yun calmly sipped her tea.
"Class Monitor, I thought this class reunion was only for the dozen or so of us?" Xiao Yu asked.
"No, the others will be here soon. My company happened to organize a trip to the newly opened Fanmei Resort for some relaxation today. They all went, but I didn't."
"Is everyone working at your company?"
"We’re all classmates, so I help out where I can," Liang He smiled. He loved this kind of glory; the feeling of having money was intoxicating.
"Can I go, too?"
"Of course you can. Everyone is invited—though for someone like Wang Yun, who is a special police officer, you probably don't need to go. You don't make much money a month; can your husband even support you?" Liang He steered the conversation back to Wang Yun.
"That’s right, Wang Yun, what does your husband actually do?" An Lan and the others were curious, having been too embarrassed to ask while Yang Fan was standing there.
"Him? He’s unemployed."
"That won't do! How could you be so rash to marry him?"
"Why don't you have him come to my company? I have some business dealings with Fanmei Resort, and I’m short of someone to run errands," Liang He said arrogantly. *What kind of man did she marry? It’s a flower stuck in cow dung!*
"Forget it, he’s hard to manage. I’m afraid he’ll cause you trouble," Wang Yun declined with a smile. In reality, the business Liang He mentioned was actually brokered by A-Jiu, who only did it because he and Liang He were classmates. In Tianhai, A-Jiu and the other four—the local toughs—were incredibly respectful to Wang Yun, constantly trying to curry favor with her. After all, Wang Yun was Yang Fan’s woman, a unique status in all of Tianhai.
"What’s hard to manage about that? You can't be the only one supporting the family!"
Wang Yun smiled and said nothing.
"Wang Yun, how long has your husband been on that phone call? Why hasn't he come in yet?"
"It’s fine, it’s his first time in Tianhai, he’s probably just wandering around."
As they chatted, Liang He squinted, replaying his plan in his mind. A special police officer and an unemployed man—how much money could they have saved in half a year? Just as he was pondering, he saw Yang Fan returning happily.
"Is that Wang Yun’s husband?" Liang He asked in a low voice.
"That's him, his name is Yang Fan," Xiao Yu replied. At that moment, almost everyone’s gaze focused on Yang Fan.
Yang Fan paused for a moment. *It’s just a business deal I closed, what's the big deal?* He sat down next to Wang Yun.
"Why are you so happy?"
"Guess!"
"Hey, stop showing off your affection, you two!" Xiao Yu couldn't help but chime in.
Liang He’s gaze turned cold, as Wang Yun had never once smiled at him like that. Yang Fan noticed the look, and again, their eyes locked.
"Why is everyone staring at us?" Yang Fan asked.
"We’re just blessing you! You married the campus belle of Tianhai University!"
The room went silent. No one knew what anyone else was thinking, but Yang Fan felt this was the most boring class reunion ever.
Ten minutes later, twenty or thirty more people arrived, igniting the atmosphere again. They hadn't seen each other in over half a year, and the food was finally served. Yang Fan was just there for the meal; even though he had eaten a little two hours ago, it was a free meal, so why pass it up?
"Honey, I’m going to the restroom," Wang Yun said, standing up.
"Wang Yun, I'll go with you!" Xiao Yu followed close behind.
Yang Fan curled his lip. *You girls are all the same, having to travel in groups to the restroom.*
At the table, only Yang Fan, An Lan, and Liang He remained. Liang He knew his chance had come.
"Yang Fan, tell me, how exactly did you manage to win our Wang Yun over?" An Lan leaned in to ask.
"I didn't, it was her—"
Yang Fan was about to speak when he heard the sound of something shattering next to him, followed by a scream.
"You... you stole Young Master Liang’s designer watch?"
