Chapter 165: Valentine's Day
Little sister practically dashed out of the house. It was Sunday, and she was supposed to be studying at home! But when she saw the gifts meant for her, all thoughts of homework and exams vanished.
“Sis! This is our family dog!”
“Yeah, from now on, if any cat dares to bully our dog, we’ll go after it!”
Yang Fan had been carrying things into the house, but hearing Ai Xiaomei’s words, he almost dropped everything.
Could your dog be any more useless?
“Mom, you don’t need to, I’ll take it,” Lin Ruo said.
Yang Fan’s mother was truly delighted. They did know about Yang Fan’s marriage, though it wasn’t as exaggerated as Ai Xiaomei claimed. In their understanding, Yang Fan had married Lin Xi.
“Xiaofang, your sister and your sister-in-law are really beautiful!” One of Yang Fang’s classmates came out too; they were supposed to be doing homework together.
Lin Ruo smiled gently at them.
“See, all these are my gifts!”
“Go play somewhere else, don’t cause trouble here!” Yang Fan’s mother snapped at Yang Fang.
“And you, go play too!” Yang Fan couldn’t help but say to Ai Xiaomei.
“Hmph!” Ai Xiaomei became even more haughty once she got home, leading Yang Fang and her classmates into the courtyard.
“Come on, come inside!” Yang Fan’s mother pulled Lin Ruo into the house. Yang Fan now wondered if he really was their biological child.
Yang Fan’s father came back in the afternoon, along with his aunt and uncle. Whenever they came home, relatives would come to visit.
Several old classmates from the village were around, but those from middle and high school had long lost contact.
“Mom, I’m going out!” Several people came looking for him, so he wanted to leave.
“Come back early.”
“I know!” Yang Fan replied.
“You brat!”
“Lin Xi, you’ve already gotten your marriage certificate. When will you hold the wedding? Mom will feel more at ease then.”
“Sis, don’t worry about it. These young people today don’t really care about weddings,” his aunt said.
“Aunt, Yang Fan and I plan to hold it next year. We’ll come back when we have time because he can’t leave for now,” Lin Ruo explained.
“No problem, it’s fine if it’s two years later. You’re still young anyway!”
Yang Fan’s father and uncle were drinking quietly in the inner room—it was almost the New Year, so things were relaxed.
Ai Xiaomei was playing with the dog in the courtyard. Since Ai Xiaomei came back, don’t expect Yang Fang to get any homework done.
“Xiaofang, hurry up and do your homework!”
“Let me play a bit more!”
“Mom, it’s okay. I also brought Xiaomei’s admission notice. It doesn’t really matter whether she studies or not.”
“Well, she has to study a little! Tonight we’re inviting Xiaofang’s teacher for dinner. You say that, and Xiaofan’s gone, and look, your dad’s still drinking!” Yang Fan’s mother scolded his father.
This was the ordinary yet novel family life…
Elsewhere, Yang Fan’s reunion was taking place at a classmate’s house.
“Yang Fan, why didn’t you bring your wife out?”
“Yeah, Yang Fan, I haven’t even seen her!” a female classmate said.
There were about forty classmates from their village, but only a few could gather now.
“Well, you come back with me later, you’ll meet her,” Yang Fan said.
“I’m not going. If your wife thinks there’s something going on between us, your reputation doesn’t matter, but I care about mine!”
“I...”
Yang Fan was speechless!
“How’s everyone been these years?”
“The same as always, what else? Xiao Ning is a teacher in high school. As for us, just working, earning some money.”
“Yang Fan, if you have a good business, take us along!”
“Of course I will. Once things are stable there, I’ll come back to invest and bring you all!” Yang Fan said.
Even if he brought them now, they wouldn’t want to leave Hucheng. Better to wait for later.
“Then it’s settled!”
Everyone chatted leisurely.
“Xiao Ning, how’s my sister doing at school?”
“Don’t mention your sister. She dropped 180 places in the midterm exams. I talked to her once, but no change. You don’t even care. What’s going on in her head all day?”
“It’s fine, just let her have fun!”
“You’re spoiling her!” Xiao Ning said bluntly.
“After the college entrance exam, I’m sending her directly to Tianning University. By the way, I have fifteen admission quotas here. You handle it!”
“Really?” Xiao Ning asked incredulously.
“Of course. Wait a moment, I’ll show you the documents. I brought them back this time!” Yang Fan took out his phone and called Lin Ruo.
“Do you really have quotas?” Everyone was surprised.
“Yes, my company has some dealings with Tianning University. There are fifty guaranteed admission spots in total. Everyone took their shares, leaving only about a dozen left!”
“What does your company do?”
“Film and television,” Yang Fan smiled.
Everyone exchanged looks; they really had no idea about these matters back in Hucheng.
Yang Fang led Lin Ruo over.
“I want to introduce you all to Lin Xi, my wife.”
“Hello, sister-in-law...”
...
Everyone was stunned because Lin Ruo was stunningly beautiful, the epitome of a wealthy, elegant young woman!
“These are the documents. I just filled in the names of a few of Yang Fang’s close friends. There are still ten spots left!” Yang Fan took them over and said, “This is Sun Xiaoning, my classmate.”
“Teacher Sun, you’re here too!” Yang Fang lowered her head.
“Your brother and sister-in-law are here. Talk to them about how much you plan to study this time.”
“But I don’t know how!” Yang Fang said with frustration.
“Will you be able to keep up at Tianning University?” Sun Xiaoning sighed.
“Lin Xi, please sit!”
“No, we’re inviting Xiaomei’s teacher to dinner tonight. I’m going with Mom. You all have fun,” Lin Ruo waved to everyone, and Yang Fang turned and ran.
Sun Xiaoning flipped through the documents. Indeed, these were admission guarantee papers. When did guaranteed admission become so easy?
“Fill them out quickly and give them back to me before May!”
“Okay! I’ll treat you to a meal some day!” Sun Xiaoning was no longer formal.
“Better not, don’t let my wife think there’s something going on between us!”
“If that were true, you two would’ve been a couple since high school!” someone teased.
“We’ve been childhood sweethearts! But love at first sight was stronger!”
“If you’re childhood sweethearts, ten spots aren’t enough. Other universities have quotas too, like medical school and teacher training.”
“Really? Then give them all to me, I’ll get all my classmates in!” Sun Xiaoning was blunt.
That bluntness was what childhood friendships were about!
“Okay, I’ll send them to you once I get back.”
“By the way, you’re at Tianning, right? Liu Qian is there too. Haven’t you met?” someone asked.
“No, Tianning is so big. Running into someone by chance is hard!” Yang Fan laughed.
“She said so last time when she came back!”
“Do you know where in Tianning she’s at?” Yang Fan inquired.
“No idea. A few days ago, she even borrowed money from me!”
