Chapter 166: The First Workday of the New Year
“Yeah, he borrowed money from me too. I think she must be dealing with something urgent,” Yang Fan paused, then said, “Give me her number. I’ll have someone check on her—make sure nothing serious happens!”
Someone immediately took out their phone. Yang Fan jotted down the number and sent a text to Lao San.
No sooner had he slipped his phone into his pocket than it vibrated.
“Hello, darling…”
“We got back early—we only took an hour to get from Tianning to Hucheng!”
“You dropped Yu Fei off, right? Be careful on your way back, and call me when you get home.”
Everyone fell silent, exchanging glances. “Looks like you’ve got a lover, huh?”
Yang Fan closed his phone and suddenly noticed all eyes were on him. He abruptly remembered—this society only allows one husband and one wife!
“Well, nicknames… that’s how my best friend and I address each other!”
No one believed him. Yang Fan didn’t bother explaining; honestly, this was one thing that couldn’t be easily cleared up.
“Come on, have some drinks!”
“What drinks? Let’s have some liquor!”
Yang Fan was about to lose it—that was strong liquor!
Half an hour later, Lao San called back, and Yang Fan was nearly dizzy.
His tolerance for alcohol was limited to begin with.
Someone else answered the phone...
“Hey, boss, we’re done. That Liu Qian you mentioned is working at the club, and she’s pregnant—just had an abortion. We smashed the bar and brought Liu Qian back to the villa to recuperate. Hey, boss…”
“Your boss is already passed out!”
“Damn it…” Lao San hung up abruptly.
They all looked at each other in disbelief.
“Liu Qian didn’t even tell us she was in trouble!”
“Could she have told us something like that?”
“Good thing Yang Fan’s people showed up, or who knows what might have happened!”
...
“Yang Fan, wake up!”
Yang Fan had simply passed out.
“I told you not to drink so much! Help him to the sofa to lie down,” Sun Xiaoning said.
Over the next half hour, Sun Xiaoning and the others received seven or eight calls from girls...
Then Lin Ruo arrived and took Yang Fan home.
“Can you believe this kid? Only a few hours and he’s already like this!”
Yang Fan’s mother turned to see his father lying in bed as well.
“Mom, it’s okay. I’ll go with you tonight,” Lin Ruo said, then booked two tables at Hucheng’s most upscale and expensive hotel.
At eight that evening, Ai Xiaomei and Yang Fang stayed home while Lin Ruo accompanied Yang Fan’s mother out.
At home, Ai Xiaomei and Yang Fang locked the door and went for a stroll in the square.
Around ten o’clock, Lin Ruo and Yang Fan’s mother spotted the two sisters from a distance, each carrying two large bags of snacks and walking two dogs.
“Weren’t you supposed to watch the house?”
“We did! We locked the door and then came out. I’m the smart one here!”
Yang Fan’s mother sighed in frustration. These two daughters were truly a handful.
At home, Yang Fan was still unconscious, half-awake, vaguely sensing his father shouting in the yard about who locked the main gate, with voices echoing back.
“Who locked the door?”
“My sister did!”
“Obviously, it was you, little sister! Kids shouldn’t lie!”
“No, it was you…”
The two sisters, each carrying a bag of snacks, bickered as they returned to the bedroom.
“You really are my good daughters.”
“Alright, alright. If your daughters lock you in the house, who can you blame?” Yang Fan’s mother scolded.
“Mom, I’m going upstairs to sleep!”
“Okay, good!”
Lin Ruo went upstairs. Under the name Lin Xi, and now married, they naturally shared a room.
“Get up, take off your clothes!” Lin Ruo helped Yang Fan undress, then undressed herself and turned off the light.
“Who told you to drink so much?” she scolded in the darkness.
“Lin Ruo, I love you!” he mumbled.
“Still thinking about loving me? You’re really persistent!” Her eyes gleamed in the dark as she looked at Yang Fan.
Feeling someone beside him, Yang Fan’s mind was muddled. His hand slid down from Lin Ruo’s cheek.
The next morning, Yang Fan slowly woke up.
“Take your hand off me!”
That was the first thing Lin Ruo said as he opened his eyes.
Yang Fan froze, realized where his hand was, and quickly withdrew it.
“You must have touched every inch of me last night!”
“Big sister, I was drunk!” Yang Fan lamented.
“Does being drunk give you the right to do whatever you want?” Their eyes met evenly.
“So, last night, we didn’t...?”
“What?”
“Come on, let me check if you’re carrying my child!”
“Get lost!” Lin Ruo snapped.
“I actually have an idea!”
“What idea?”
“You know, one night when you’re asleep, I sneak in…”
“You don’t need to wait for any night. Tonight’s fine. I’ll definitely sleep early—I’ll be in bed waiting for you!” Lin Ruo said bluntly.
“Alright, then tonight. Tonight I can have your child?”
“If you believe so, then yes! But only if you’re not afraid you’ll never see me and the child again.”
“Would you really let the child be born without a father?”
“That’s none of your business!” Lin Ruo sat up and began getting dressed.
Yang Fan lay in bed, unwilling to move.
“Get up.”
Yang Fan sighed deeply—he couldn’t get what he wanted. Then suddenly, he remembered that dream. Was it real?
“What exactly is wrong?”
He spent the whole day at home. Lin Ruo stayed put, while Ai Xiaomei and Yang Fang went out for a spree.
Those two sisters truly shared the same spirit.
“Mom, I’ll come back after the New Year to pick up Xiaomei and let her stay home for a couple of days.”
“Okay, I know you’re busy.”
“Mom, we’ll come back to see you whenever we can,” Lin Ruo said while picking vegetables.
“Good, come often. I hope you do.”
Finally, the two sisters returned, meandering back with nothing but snacks in hand.
“I think we should open a supermarket, just for them to eat!”
“That’d be a huge loss; they’re even more uncontrollable!”
“Mom, you don’t know—Ai Xiaomei has a snack cart. Because of how much she eats, she even won ‘Best Foodie of the Year’ online!” Yang Fan said.
“Yeah, I won an award!” Ai Xiaomei suddenly remembered and said happily.
“What award?” Yang Fan’s father asked.
“Another snack cart!”
Everyone rolled their eyes. Yang Fan just patted Ai Xiaomei’s head.
After dinner, they went to another class reunion. Lin Ruo stayed home with her younger cousin, cousin-in-law, and aunt’s family.
This time, Yang Fan brought Ai Xiaomei and Yang Fang along. As Lin Ruo put it, it was to prevent Yang Fan from drinking too much and not being able to come back.
Of course, he had something very important to do tonight. How could he possibly overdrink?
