Chapter 44: If You Wish to Be Beasts, I Will Grant Your Wish
At three in the afternoon, beneath the apartment complex in the garden district, Yang Fan finally managed to see Ai Xiaomei off. The drowsiness that had plagued him earlier had, for the most part, dissipated.
"Yang Fan, see you next week in Lake City!"
"Bye!" Yang Fan waved happily.
To commemorate this momentous day, he intended to return home for a nap, but Lin Ruo pulled him into her car before he could make it inside. The others exchanged glances and quickly dispersed.
Of course, Lin Ruo was taking Yang Fan to the manor to check on the girls; in fact, ever since that day, this group of girls had remained at the manor. Only in the harshest environments could they truly be honed.
The moment he got into the car, Yang Fan couldn't help but feel sleepy again. When would these miserable days ever end for him?
"You had a good time with Xia Yufei last night, didn't you?" Lin Ruo accused coldly.
"Of course not! I was out saving someone last night."
"Is that your excuse for not coming home? Now being out all night is something to be proud of? Besides, does saving someone require an entire night?" Lin Ruo scolded him as she drove.
"I..."
"Have you thought about that question?" she pressed.
"Sis, could you just let me sleep for a bit?"
Lin Ruo fell silent, and Yang Fan's headache only grew. What a mess this all was.
Yet, if there was a responsibility he ought to bear, he would bear it. That was his answer.
They soon arrived at the manor. Wang Yong, once a mere puppet, was now a proper sparring partner, and the girls’ progress was nothing short of astonishing.
When these women got serious, they were truly ruthless—their punches looked painful even to Yang Fan.
"Master!"
"Mm, keep practicing then. Train well!" That was all Yang Fan could manage. The manor’s large basement was filled with tents and girls’ belongings hanging everywhere.
The sight stirred Yang Fan’s heart. He hadn’t thought much of it before, but after last night’s experience, he had to admit, it felt wonderful. Well, last night didn’t really count, since he’d had no consciousness at all.
Yang Fan decided he’d better leave. If he lost control—even though he knew that with a single word, the girls would give him whatever he wanted—it would be bad.
"Lin Ruo must be doing this on purpose!"
"What did you say?"
"Nothing. I said we should go. I’m just disturbing everyone here."
Lin Ruo said nothing, left the manor, and instead of driving back into the city, she took the car deeper into the desolate countryside.
Yang Fan found it odd. Here they were, a man and a woman alone in the wilderness—there was a certain romance to it.
Especially since the scene in the basement was still fresh in his mind; the excitement hadn’t faded yet.
"Are you thinking we should do something here, out in the wild, with the car as well?"
Yang Fan was startled. Was she really suggesting it?
"How can you be such a scoundrel? You even want me? I’m Lin Xi’s older sister! Are you trying to have both sisters?"
"I..." Yang Fan was exasperated. It was clearly her suggestive words that had tempted him. Was peaceful coexistence too much to ask?
"Sis, I really wasn’t thinking that!"
"Really? Then swear it!"
"Alright, I admit I was wrong!" Yang Fan was in despair.
Lin Ruo sighed heavily, then stopped the car abruptly.
"Fine, go to sleep."
"Wait, Sis, did you really bring me out here just so I could sleep?"
"What else would you do? You truly intend to have both sisters?" Lin Ruo’s voice was icy.
Yang Fan was frustrated—he wanted to say that sleeping here was nowhere near as comfortable as sleeping at home. But in this moment, it was best to say as little as possible—the more he spoke, the more he’d be in the wrong...
Perhaps he was genuinely exhausted, because he quickly fell asleep. Lin Ruo watched him for a long while, her feelings complicated.
No matter how many girls hovered around Yang Fan, he and Lin Xi were bound together by life and death; their futures were inseparable. Which meant Yang Fan could only marry Lin Xi, and by marrying her, he would save her as well—this was the only way.
As for Lin Ruo herself, she could compete with anyone, but never with her own sister. That was her one reservation...
As the sun set, Lin Ruo closed her eyes too, savoring this peaceful moment.
"I am a little yellow duck, little yellow duck, quack, quack, quack..."
Yang Fan was finally woken by this ridiculous ringtone, which Ai Xiaomei must have changed for him at noon.
The call was from Zhao Jing. Yang Fan, still groggy, answered, but Lin Ruo snatched the phone from him, telling Zhao Jing that Yang Fan had been busy all night and couldn’t wake up right now.
Yang Fan snapped awake, but Lin Ruo had already hung up.
"She just wanted to let you know that she’s going to sleep too."
Yang Fan took the phone and called Zhao Jing back. It seemed Zhao Jing wasn’t suspicious, and after a brief chat, they hung up.
"I am—"
"Who changed my ringtone!" Yang Fan complained irritably. The caller ID showed Xia Yufei, and he quickly picked up.
On the other end, Xia Yufei told him that she would be rehearsing late for the next two days. Yang Fan offered a few words of concern and then hung up as well.
"I just don’t understand—how can a jerk like you have so many girls interested in you? What are they seeing?" Lin Ruo said mockingly as she turned the car around.
Yang Fan was speechless.
"Still, no matter how wild you get, in the end you can only marry my sister! So don’t get too emotionally invested in the others," Lin Ruo sneered.
"Whatever," Yang Fan muttered, unwilling to argue.
"I’m only telling you the truth—it’s my most sincere advice!"
They picked up a few dishes from a restaurant and brought them home. Once there, Lin Ruo skillfully divided up the food, which even Yang Fan found surprising.
A bodyguard who could handle both the drawing room and the kitchen—Zhang Chen and Liu Haoyu hadn’t come back, so only the two of them were in the house.
Anyone who didn’t know better might think they were a married couple.
"Come, eat more meat. You overexerted yourself last night—you really need to replenish."
Yang Fan was speechless—she was tempting him again.
Who said sisters were always safe? Oh right, it was Li Jingyi. Thinking back now, Li Jingyi had her own sister serve as her husband’s secretary—maybe that wasn’t so simple after all!
"What are you staring at?" Lin Ruo demanded.
Yang Fan quickly focused on his meal. Her outfit really was too form-fitting.
After dinner, Yang Fan went back to sleep, and Lin Ruo slept in Ai Xiaomei’s room, claiming she needed to protect Yang Fan.
In the middle of the night, Lin Ruo barged in—she came to give Yang Fan a massage...
At Tianning Normal College, Sun Wen was on the verge of a breakdown. Ever since that night when he was thrown out, people had come looking for him non-stop.
Every time someone saw him, he got beaten—students from Normal College, students from the Technical School—he had truly become a rat scurrying across the street.
At ten in the evening, Xia Yufei and her friends finished rehearsal and happened to see people from the Technical School beating Sun Wen.
It was already the dozenth time he’d been beaten that day...
Seeing Xia Yufei approach, the group immediately stopped. Naturally, these were the guys hired by the two from the Technical School—money could make the devil himself work for you, and they had learned this lesson well.
"Yufei, Susu, please save me!"
"Save you? You scum! Bastard!"
...
"Yufei, your boyfriend is really something."
"We honestly should thank him—if not for him, last night would have been a disaster..."
Such was Sun Wen’s fate. Outside Tianning Normal College, Sun Wen’s two cronies were trying to pull strings, but to their despair, nobody dared stick their necks out for them.
So, they contemplated running away. But just as the thought crossed their minds, they saw A Ming and his men watching them closely.
How could they forget A Ming’s face?
"Don’t be scared, you haven’t eaten all day, right? Come on, let’s get you something to eat!" A Ming and his group surrounded the two, giving them no choice but to comply.
The next day, Yang Fan finally came face to face with a thoroughly broken Sun Wen and his two cronies in an abandoned warehouse.
A Ming and his crew hadn’t laid a hand on them—they’d even given them food. But they’d made the three spend the night with two dogs. Though the Tibetan mastiffs were locked in cages, their howls had terrified the men.
"Well, what do you have to say for yourselves?" Yang Fan asked.
"Boss, we were wrong, we’ll never do it again!"
Yang Fan let out a cold laugh. "That’s nothing—really, none of that matters. But there are some mistakes that can never be undone."
The three cowered in fear. Even as they begged for mercy, Yang Fan shook his head.
"See those two dogs and that kitten? Didn’t you want to act like beasts? I’ll let you have your wish!"
