Chapter 138: Leviathan Enters the Arena
The Warlord swiftly ascended, soaring toward the spire. As long as the spire’s portal generator was destroyed, the spatial gateway would immediately shut down, ending the Chitauri invasion. Yet, the generator was shielded by the Cosmic Cube’s power, impervious to any attack. Only the Loki Scepter, also infused with the Cosmic Cube’s energy, could pierce this force field.
The generator was just within reach, and the surrounding airspace had been thoroughly cleared by the Four Roses’ formidable efforts. The Four Roses were fiercely engaged in battle against the Chitauri reinforcements pouring in from above.
Just as Luke was about to descend, a streak of black light flashed across his vision, causing his eyelids to twitch uncontrollably.
His psi-shield instantly activated!
An orange aura enveloped the Warlord entirely, but the black light struck the shield with precision, shattering it with a resounding crack!
Simultaneously, two Whirlwinds piloted by Anaka and Aimitan in the sky were each struck by black light. Both were violently flung backward by a strange, overwhelming force.
However, the two young pilots swiftly regained control, and it appeared the Whirlwinds had suffered minimal damage. Reuniting with the others, the Four Roses launched a counterattack against the attackers in the air.
Luke breathed a sigh of relief. The four Whirlwinds, the latest modified models, incorporated a large amount of ultra-synthetic Edelman alloy enhanced with the lowest-grade hardening agents. The overall armor hardness was nearly on par with true Edelman alloy.
His gaze fixed intently on the graceful figure hurtling toward him—the Night Proxima.
Only with the Four Roses piloting four Whirlwinds with advanced technology and materials could they barely hold this alien woman at bay. Yet, they could not prevent her from wielding that ghostly long spear.
Three more streaks of black light shot toward Luke from a distance. Night Proxima had clearly discerned Luke’s plan to shut down the portal.
Facing such powerful and enigmatic black light attacks, Luke dared not exit his mech or even approach the generator.
Another psi-shield shattered before him.
The remaining two black light beams struck the Warlord squarely. The massive frame crashed onto the rooftop of Stark Tower, instantly collapsing an entire floor.
The shockwave shattered over ten floors of glass on the rooftop, glass shards plummeting hundreds of meters alongside the STARK sign...
Luke cursed his misfortune inwardly—not out of pity for Tony.
He realized that this spear was the bane of psi-shields. Each attack was devastating, but the psi-shield could only absorb one at a time.
Even if he dodged the remaining two, the black lights seemed locked onto him and would inevitably strike.
The mech’s structural integrity read 90%.
The immense impact resonated through the layers of armor surrounding him.
Before Luke could even think, three more black lights streaked toward him.
His eyelids twitched furiously. “This can’t go on! Eventually, the armor will be pierced. After all, it’s only an Edelman alloy coating. If it were Aimitan’s Whirlwind modifications, it would hold.”
But preparation time was insufficient. The Warlord had barely installed the new weapons when Loki arrived on Earth.
Night Proxima seemed aware of this, fixating tightly on Luke alone. She ignored the Four Roses’ attempts to engage her; if she couldn’t break them, she might as well target the key player directly.
Night Proxima did not intend to kill Luke. As she had stated, she was here to take him away. If he resisted, she would simply incapacitate him.
As one of Thanos’s Obsidian Five, Night Proxima had never failed a mission in all her years of service.
She had every confidence and means to extract Luke.
Luke seized every opportunity to shut the portal, but the black spear kept him in check. Night Proxima deliberately maintained a distance, limiting the melee effectiveness of his invisible sword—the Shadowless Aegis.
Fortunately, Luke had more tricks up his sleeve than just one invisible blade.
As the small brat’s antics were notorious, a swarm of drones suddenly launched from the Warlord’s weapon bay, flying out in pairs, four at a time—over fifty in total!
The G-3 Predators were deployed!
Christina had broken through technical constraints. If not for the limited capacity of the Warlord’s temporary drone bay, he could have carried even more, forming a denser swarm assault.
“Tracking isn’t just your specialty. Take this—‘Infestation Bug·Secretary·Insect Pearl!’” Luke laughed heartily.
“Clang!” Two more black lights struck him, sending him flying awkwardly.
Curious, Luke glanced back at the mech’s cockpit, which had become a fish tank for Rotus, asleep inside for over half a month. It was now being tossed about—sometimes curling into an S shape, sometimes a B shape—yet remained undisturbed.
The G-3 Predator swarm tactics were effective.
All fifty drones fired synchronized blue-white lasers at Night Proxima.
She screamed in agony, feeling as if fifty bees were stinging her simultaneously, the pain relentless.
Though the lasers were weak against her physiology, the burning sensation on her skin was unmistakably real. Worse still, the drones darted swiftly and agilely, relentlessly tracking her, leaving no place to hide.
Seeing Luke stubbornly intent on closing the portal, Night Proxima gritted her teeth and raised her palm. A dazzling spear of light suddenly materialized in her hand, which she hurled fiercely.
Luke was startled, his spider-sense screaming danger.
His psi-shield absorbed the first beam.
The second beam struck him hard. His display flashed red wildly as he frantically yanked the joystick, using the mech’s backward momentum and full power thrusters to create distance from the third beam.
Seizing the brief respite, Luke immediately deployed another psi-shield, blocking the third beam before it too dissolved.
At that moment, a strange “wooo” sound echoed from above.
Luke looked up, stunned to see a colossal steel behemoth hundreds of meters long slowly emerging from the spatial portal.
“Leviathan has entered the battlefield…”
Luke’s jaw dropped. Witnessing such a creature, like something out of the movies, looming overhead was utterly awe-inspiring.
This was essentially a Chitauri airborne mothership, not only carrying soldiers but terrifyingly agile—drifting, charging, clearly employing antigravity technology.
“Everyone, be careful…” Luke barely finished his warning to the Four Roses before his mouth fell open again.
The “wooo” sounds continued ceaselessly.
Following this Leviathan, three more emerged in succession, passing through the portal and appearing over New York’s skyline.
But this was only the beginning.
The fifth, sixth, seventh… up to the twentieth Leviathan arrived, and Luke’s expression grew numb.
Meanwhile, on the ground, the Avengers—each fighting individually—looked up in stunned disbelief.
Countless New Yorkers were frozen in place, overwhelmed by the sight.
Twenty Leviathans had come.
Luke exhaled deeply, then solemnly called the Four Roses over the squad comms channel.
“Operation Lionheart is a go. It’s time to assemble War God Mecha. Insert the activation key!”
