Chapter 139: I'll Form the Head!
The four modified Tempests quickly gathered their formation and began to close in on Luke’s Warlord.
Over the comm channel, Luke’s voice sounded serious: "Form up immediately! Engage the interlocking system, connect the thermal units, power up, increase thrust, and begin combination!"
The Four Roses responded in unison: "Advance! Voltron!"
At the command, the four modified Tempests began to unfold mid-air, magnificently altering their forms. These aerial combat mechas had been built with a modular design. Protruding and redundant parts now retracted, hiding away inside the main bodies.
The mecha heads, hands, and feet bent and folded in sequence, clicking into the interior.
In the blink of an eye, the four modified Tempests transformed into four rectangular, blocky chassis. Maintaining their propulsion, they slowly drew closer to the Warlord, which was undergoing its own transformation.
The Warlord’s main body did not change much, primarily because there had not been enough modification time; only the key connection points of its arms and legs underwent critical transformation. This was a point of some regret for Luke.
"Form the feet and legs, form the torso and arms..."
Following Luke's command, the four transformed Tempests began docking with the Warlord.
The Tempests piloted by Anaka and Obya connected to the Warlord's feet, extending its legs by two meters. At the same time, their firepower was fully retained, serving as two fire support points at the base's feet.
The modified Tempests of the shotgunner Roxana and the grenade launcher Amy tan docked with the Warlord's left and right arms respectively, significantly extending both limbs.
The firepower mounted on these two mechas was also preserved. The combined Warlord now possessed flame-throwing capabilities in its left hand, along with multiple missile launch points. Its right hand acquired grenade-launching capabilities, even capable of firing the second-generation grenades carried by the Warlord.
Luke’s voice rang out once more: "I'll form the head!"
At the very top of the Warlord's torso, its original inverted-triangular head retracted into the body. Then, a new square head thrust upward—it was the Tempest piloted by Luke himself.
The surface of this oldest Tempest rapidly shifted shape, undergoing its final, most complex, and most magnificent transformation.
In a single breath, the exterior of the Tempest piloted by Luke took on the shape of a human face, with eyes, nose, and mouth clearly visible.
With a sharp click, the eyes of the fully combined Voltron lit up.
Then Luke commanded: "Form the Sword of Light!"
Voltron brought its palms together, drawing out a massive, brilliantly glowing sword from left to right!
Aigis, the Shadowless Sword, revealed its physical form for the first time.
Voltron gripped the sword with both hands and raised it high. The giant sword shone with golden light, and the mecha as a whole looked immensely formidable!
Having completed its transformation and standing over nine meters tall, the mecha became the largest and most conspicuous combat unit on the battlefield, second only to the twenty Leviathans in the sky.
At this moment, complete control of this nine-meter giant rested entirely with Luke. The Four Roses were responsible solely for fire support.
Just then, Voltron abruptly raised its head, its gaze sweeping indifferently across the sky.
Instantly, an antenna snapped out from the top of Voltron’s head, swaying in the wind.
"Excalibur—!" Luke’s deafening voice echoed across the skies of New York: "Cali-burb!!!"
The giant sword of light swept forward, and a peerlessly majestic and brilliant wave of sword energy suddenly erupted! It shot straight into the sky in an instant, its luminance instantly illuminating the entire city.
The twenty-meter-wide Asura Evil-Slaying Slash broke through spatial distance almost instantaneously. Along its penetrating trajectory, a total of three Leviathans were pierced through on the spot.
In a split second, dazzling cascades of light burst forth across the sky. Those three newly arrived Leviathans were instantly destroyed, their massive bodies shattering and disintegrating mid-air as explosions spread, resembling brilliant clusters of fireworks that once again lit up the pre-dawn night sky.
The effect of this single strike immediately electrified the Avengers!
To be honest, the arrival of twenty iron behemoths had almost immediately left them gasping for breath. The scene before them made them realize there was still someone on their team capable of matching the enemy—that super-genius teenager...
No, he was more than just a super-genius; he was—an Apostle!
At that moment, every Avenger in their hearts fully acknowledged the title. Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye—they all looked up at that towering body of steel. He deserved it utterly!
He was a member of the Avengers!
Luke's achievement seemed to inspire someone else as well.
Right then, dark clouds suddenly gathered across the sky, and the winds began to churn! Lightning flashed and thunder rumbled amid the leaden clouds, the flickering light continuously illuminating the overcast layers.
Atop the peak of a spire-shaped building, Thor the God of Thunder, who had just rushed over after breaking free, happened to witness the might of Luke’s single sword strike. While deeply shaken, Thor’s fighting spirit surged correspondingly.
He raised Mjolnir—his war hammer—high in the air, and surging divine thunder power crazily churned and accumulated within his body.
*Boom-crack!*
An unimaginably thick pillar of thunder, as if summoned from a primeval earthly era, suddenly plunged from the dense dark clouds and connected directly to Mjolnir. In that instant, surging arcs of thunder and lightning danced and intertwined in the air like silver dragons.
Countless Chitauri soldiers pouring from the space portal were instantly reduced to nothingness the moment they were struck by the thunder. A Leviathan was pierced straight through by a dragon of electricity, instantly exploding and disintegrating in mid-air.
The entire sky was pitch-black and oppressively gloomy. Yet, this weather phenomenon came and went quickly. As the thunder gradually subsided, the dense storm clouds dissipated in the blink of an eye, vanishing completely.
A sliver of sunlight abruptly pierced the city’s skyline. Far away at the horizon, the sun finally began to rise.
Crouched atop Stark Tower, Luke raised his head, fixing his gaze on the combat unfolding in the skies, his expression not easing up by even the slightest fraction.
He had wiped out three, and Thor had taken down one. However...
There were still... sixteen left.
The immensely massive bodies of the Leviathans began to cruise through the air, dispersing. Half of them remained in the skies over New York, pressing their attack and wreaking havoc. The other half slowly flew beyond the perimeter of New York, heading toward surrounding cities.
Yet, by this time, everyone was overwhelmed and powerless to help, unable to do anything about the Leviathans clearly heading to attack other cities.
Luke, too, was entangled by Proxima Midnight.
"What the hell! Crazy woman, is there no end to this..."
"Surrender, Apostle, and come with me to see Lord Thanos."
"Screw you!"
