Chapter 95: Nanny Mei
Director Fury believed it would benefit both parties to strengthen the bond between us, fostering mutual benefit and trust. We have secured much for you, especially Natasha. I hope you can understand our difficulties. What happened that day could have been avoided.
The good man said, still maintaining a smile.
Luke had to admit that Colson’s smile carried a certain charm, capable of relaxing one’s vigilance. If others did not understand the true nature of this Colson, they might easily swallow the sugar-coated bullet.
Luke offered no response, remaining silent.
He understood his life’s path better than the good man himself.
So the sugar coating would remain, while the bullet vanished without a trace. He wanted to see what favors the mastermind behind the agent king was still selling.
“Then consider it as your agreement,” Colson said with a smile. “Agent Mei will handle the contact with you.”
Agent Mei stepped out from behind the tree, her face showing clear displeasure. Luke had known of her presence for some time.
In the estimation of both Lu Dan and Colson, women and children should prove easier to persuade. Moreover, Mei was Chinese, granting her a shared language with Luke and making her the ideal choice as nanny and moral guide.
After the matter was settled, Colson did not depart at once, apparently still hoping to draw closer to Luke.
It may have been a task left by Lu Dan, as Colson uttered a few disconnected remarks.
“Have you been following the news lately? So many major incidents have occurred. The bureau has been troubled over these matters. The coma event in Queens, which affected two million people, its repercussions have not yet faded. Then, one after another, network attacks struck, the entire East Coast was impacted, followed by New York’s power outages, one trouble after another.”
Colson sighed and said, “What is happening to this world? There are more bizarre occurrences recently than I recall from the past few years.”
Although unspoken, the strange incidents he had in mind naturally included Luke as an unstable variable.
Otherwise, he would not be standing here.
The seven-year-old super genius, overshadowed by Stark’s brilliance despite the years of S.H.I.E.L.D. observation, paled in comparison to his own achievements.
Luke listened, his small face blank.
His innocent expression conveyed confusion: Who am I? Where am I? Who is speaking? You? What are you saying? I do not understand a single word.
It is all Tim’s fault! Luke had already concluded in his heart.
“I heard you are still in elementary school. If you are willing, we can transfer you to the S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy. Far removed from the preschool education that would waste your intelligence. It would be beneficial for you.”
Colson shifted the topic and smiled.
“Salary? Of course. Upon graduation and formal induction as an agent, S.H.I.E.L.D.’s compensation would be excellent—high wages, substantial bonuses, and multiple risk allowances.”
Luke curled his lip. “Forget it. You cannot afford my salary. What I accomplish is tens of billions in a single minute.”
“I recall in the last interview you mentioned one hundred million,” Colson said with a smile.
Luke wondered if you remember that.
“Considering it further?” Colson smiled. “S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy has nurtured many exceptional geniuses. Your talents would find full expression there.”
“No, I enjoy it as it is,” Luke refused.
Colson smiled and did not press.
This task would be entrusted to Mei.
Lu Dan had consented to her assignment, not only for his strong recommendation but also to have Mei persuade Luke. As a Chinese person, one values relationships, and fellow countrymen are easier to talk to. Both Colson and Lu Dan were seasoned individuals.
Colson took his leave and departed.
Mei remained.
From beginning to end, Agent Mei uttered only two words: “Um” and “Um.”
Before Colson left, Luke reminded him, “Do not forget, you still owe me twenty kilograms of vibranium.” Luke drew clear distinctions between public and private matters.
He had agreed to Mei coming over to add one pair of chopsticks, viewing this as a long-term strategy to extract food from Lu Dan’s mouth. With the watchman eagle already present, adding another nanny would at most allow some crowding in.
Colson nodded. “It will be delivered tomorrow.”
Upon returning home, Karen immediately inquired, “Did Colson leave so quickly? What did he want with you?”
“Good news, good news! Davis Elementary School has recognized my excellent performance and awarded me a generous scholarship, with tuition entirely waived!” Luke announced with a beaming face.
“Really? That is wonderful!” Karen was overjoyed. Though the sum was not large, it affirmed Luke’s excellence and earned the school’s approval. She felt immense pride and excitement.
Since S.H.I.E.L.D. had approached him under the school’s auspices, Luke seized the opportunity to claim his due; he had never been one to suffer losses. Lu Dan must have anticipated this.
“Trust me, Karen. They will not refuse.” Luke said meaningfully to the doorway.
Mei entered.
“The bad news is that the household may require an additional pair of chopsticks. You two can discuss it. I must go out now!” With that, Luke grabbed his skateboard and dashed from the house.
As for the excuse Agent Mei would employ to explain the matter to his adoptive mother, that was none of his concern.
Agent Mei offered Karen a warm smile.
She introduced herself as an excellent student extracurricular instructor from Davis Elementary, citing arrangements made long ago by Lu Dan.
Today was Sunday. When Luke arrived at the warehouse, Peter Parker was already waiting.
He trained the little spider for two hours as usual.
Afterward, Luke drove the food truck, ferrying the little spider to sell hamburgers.
Peter Parker looked puzzled and asked, “Dude, are we really that short on money?” The little spider assumed Luke merely sought profit.
“Dude, broaden your thinking. Remember: the greater the ability, the greater the responsibility. Those unable to eat our hamburgers will perish.” Luke lectured earnestly.
“No problem, dude! I understand perfectly.”
Thus, two seven-year-old diminutive figures—one atop the other—coordinated to propel the food truck outward, leaving Skye momentarily stunned.
This Burger Nina delicious hamburger food truck now possessed a complete business license, health permits, and all necessary documentation. The assistant had hacked into the New York government network, altered the records, and inserted a fictitious corporate entity.
The United States maintained no commercial bureau, only a tax authority. The infuriating aspect was that even their hard-earned earnings required taxation! Luke frequently grumbled, damn capitalism!
Therefore, he had begun considering launching a hamster plan through Christina.
“US banks rack up so many bad debts yearly—carefully skim a portion to spend, it seems feasible.”
With artificial intelligence, he could simply append a string of zeros to his account and bid farewell to monetary scarcity.
Yet such an act would cross the edge of self-destruction entirely, a genuine act of massive rebellion. Once this assault on world order occurred, S.H.I.E.L.D. would offer no protection.
The sun’s praise would be his sole sanctuary.
Just as Tony, whether selling arms or toxic milk powder, made no difference; earning vast sums was a matter of personal whim. But daring to employ Jarvis to disrupt financial order would prompt his father Howard Stark to rise first and strangle him.
“Committing death is the enemy of all action. Be sure to develop indecently, feigning deafness and dumbness.” — Luke.
