Chapter Thirty-Four: The Dual "Language" Duo

“Hm? What’s wrong?” Chu Yuxiu was woken by a phone call in the middle of the night, her voice bristling with annoyance.

“Why did you only just answer?” Qin Yu asked anxiously.

“I was sleeping, damn it—woken up by your call.” Chu Yuxiu, groggy and irritable from being roused, didn’t even notice who was on the other end.

“Alright. I’m hanging up now,” Qin Yu replied, regaining composure and ending the call.

Once, Chu Yuxiu and Qin Yu had dated for a while. Back then, Chu Yuxiu was eighteen, Qin Yu was twenty-two. Qin Yu had always nursed a secret affection for her; one night, when Chu Yuxiu was intoxicated and drugged, it was Qin Yu who helped her through, breaking the effects of the poison.

That night was tumultuous, the room left in utter disarray. Truthfully, Chu Yuxiu liked Qin Yu as well, but she kept it locked in her heart, unable to confess.

Chu Yuxiu was an orphan, whereas Qin Yu was the sixth young master of the prestigious Qin and Su families. The gap between them was vast—how could they ever be together? Yet, after Qin Yu’s persistent pursuit and a heartfelt confession on the night of the Qixi Festival, Chu Yuxiu yielded to selfishness just once and accepted his love.

Qin Yu had never expected her to agree; he’d braced himself for rejection. But their time together was harmonious, unblemished by quarrels. Qin Yu doted on Chu Yuxiu, treating her as a cherished princess. He took care of her meticulously, remembered all her preferences, and she likewise knew his by heart.

Whenever Chu Yuxiu was angry, Qin Yu would coax her. If she became jealous, he’d explain patiently, severing contact with any other woman. Qin Yu’s devotion to Chu Yuxiu was unwavering; he even transferred all his assets to her name, so that if they ever parted, he’d be working for her.

Later, Qin Yu proposed, and they married. It seemed they’d never be separated—until fate intervened.

That accident… it tore them apart.

Chu Yuxiu had gone alone to apprehend a suspect—a young addict. Qin Yu, worried for her safety, secretly followed. Chu Yuxiu thought her plan foolproof, but she was mistaken; the night before the operation, the young addict kidnapped her.

After Chu Yuxiu was abducted, the addict injected her with drugs, wanting her to become addicted and fall as he had. In agony, Chu Yuxiu suffered. The addict then unlocked her phone and called Qin Yu, threatening him: bring a million yuan and help him escape, or he’d continue injecting Chu Yuxiu.

Qin Yu complied, handing over the money. The addict ordered him to kneel, and he did; ordered him to cut his own arm, and he obeyed. Finally, the addict agreed to let him go. But escape was not so simple. The addict dragged Chu Yuxiu to the door; Qin Yu signaled the police with a glance to make their move.

Sensing the trap, the addict tried to inject Chu Yuxiu with a second dose, but Qin Yu intervened, taking the injection himself. Afterwards, he rushed Chu Yuxiu to the hospital, where Leng Zheng extracted the toxins from both their bloodstreams.

Qin Yu didn’t want Chu Yuxiu to remember any of it, so together with Leng Zheng, he altered her memories, erasing every trace of their shared past…

PS: Ah! Yuxiu and Qin Yu—the double “Yu” couple—is truly a tragic pairing. Honestly! That segment above is genuinely heartbreaking, but rest assured: the ending is sweet.
