Chapter Forty: The Agreement
The next day.
“Hm? What’s the matter?” Cheng Yunting answered the phone, gently stroking Leng Zheng’s head as he spoke.
“Yunting, I’m back in the country. I’m at the airport right now. Why don’t you come pick me up?” the woman on the other end asked.
Cheng Yunting was silent for a moment before replying, “Alright.”
“Tsk, I heard you have a girlfriend now. Shouldn’t you ask her opinion first?” The woman laughed softly as she asked.
Holding Leng Zheng in his arms, Cheng Yunting shook his head. “No need. I’ll come right now.”
“Alright.” The woman nodded and smiled. “I’ve heard your girlfriend looks a lot like me.”
Before she could finish, Cheng Yunting hung up coldly.
He gazed at the sleeping Leng Zheng, pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead, and whispered by her ear, “I’ll be right back. Stay home and rest, sleep a little longer.”
Then he dressed and left...
...
On the other end, the woman smiled and murmured under her breath, “Seems he still can’t forget me.”
That woman was Du Ruoyan, the eldest daughter of the Du family, who bore more than a passing resemblance to Leng Zheng.
If people said Leng Zheng was Du Ruoyan’s substitute, it would be more accurate to say Du Ruoyan was Leng Zheng’s.
But aside from her looks, Du Ruoyan shared nothing else in common with Leng Zheng.
Cheng Yunting had once pursued her, but halfway through, he gave up, realizing that beyond their appearance, they had nothing in common.
“Looks like President Cheng will fall under Miss Du’s spell after all. Shouldn’t I congratulate you in advance?” Suddenly, a man appeared, smiling as he spoke.
“Oh? And you are?” Du Ruoyan looked at him curiously.
“Who I am isn’t important. What matters is, does Miss Du want to work with me?” The man smiled, lowering his head.
“What do you mean?” Du Ruoyan was puzzled by his intentions.
“Here, Miss Du, this is my card. If you want to cooperate, just give me a call.” The man ignored her question, handed her his card, and left.
After a moment’s thought, Du Ruoyan dialed the number on the card...
...
“Yunting.” Du Ruoyan waved at Cheng Yunting as she called his name.
He walked over. “Why aren’t you still abroad, recovering?”
“I just missed home a bit.” Du Ruoyan lowered her head and smiled. “But mostly, I came back for someone.”
“I already have a girlfriend.” Cheng Yunting caught her meaning and replied without emotion.
Du Ruoyan smiled. “That’s fine. Then I’ll wait until you break up.” She paused. “Or, perhaps I’ll make sure she—”
“Don’t you dare.” Cheng Yunting clenched his fists, understanding her implication.
Seeing his reaction, Du Ruoyan laughed. “You don’t need to worry. For now, I won’t do anything. What happens to her depends on you.”
Cheng Yunting sat down in a chair, closed his eyes, and asked, “What do you want?”
“I want you to sign an agreement with me. For the next two years, you have to do what I say, whatever I ask.” She handed him a contract. “Otherwise, your little girlfriend might be in trouble.”
“You!” Cheng Yunting glanced at the agreement, staring at her in fury. “You want me to pretend to be your boyfriend? Not a chance!”
“Don’t forget, you have to do as I say,” Du Ruoyan whispered seductively by his ear.
Cheng Yunting couldn’t help thinking of Leng Zheng. He clenched his teeth and nodded. “Fine, I agree. But I have conditions.”
She nodded and sat across from him. “Go on.”
“One, nothing romantic between us—no kissing or anything like that. Two, you can’t harm Leng Zheng.”
“Alright, I agree.” Du Ruoyan had expected these terms and agreed readily.
PS: Tsk tsk tsk, I can hardly find the words for this chapter.
Unbelievable, I actually added my idol on WeChat! I’m so excited!
She’s an author—a truly outstanding one—and her book is incredibly popular. It was because of her that I started writing novels.
Alright, that’s all for today. See you tomorrow~
