I raised an eyebrow. "Why would I stay just to let you fleece me?"

He gave a mysterious smile. "Fleece you? I'm planning to give you a grand gift, brother-style. I guarantee you'll love it."

I couldn't be bothered to entertain him, but just then, someone approached from the other direction. "Nanfeng."

My gaze was immediately captured by this person. He looked so familiar—so incredibly familiar. I must have seen him somewhere before.

Seeing me staring at the man like a lovesick fan, Zheng Nanfeng chuckled. "It’s a good thing Luo San isn't here; if he saw that look on your face, he’d probably devour you."

I rolled my eyes at him and asked the handsome man drawing closer, "Hey, have we met before? You look so familiar."

He stroked his chin. "My face hasn't been scalded by boiling water, so how could it be 'well-done'?"

Zheng Nanfeng, as if afraid I might snatch the handsome man away, pulled him along and hurried off, glancing back to grin at me after a few steps.

My thoughts were on Xia Qi, so I didn't linger and rushed outside to find her.

Fortunately, Xia Qi was standing under the large tree at the entrance, talking on her phone. I walked over and heard her say, "The trouble I caused, I will handle myself."

I called out to her, and she hung up and looked at me with a smile.

In the night breeze, she looked frail, like a wilting rose. I hugged her, not wanting to ask what this was all about. I simply said, "I'm tired. Let's go home and sleep."

She buried her face in my shoulder, and I felt a hot, damp patch soak through.

She stepped back, looked at me, and smiled. "Wu You, thank you for not asking. I promise, once I've dealt with all this mess, I will tell you everything from start to finish. Wait for me, okay?"

We acted like young lovers in the throes of passion, pinky-swearing and sealing our promises with a vow that wouldn't change for a hundred years.

After she went home, I returned to my courtyard house, only to be startled by the cars and people at the entrance. Fearing it was Shu Wen’an coming to find me again, I instinctively froze.

Then, a car door opened. Zheng Nanfeng stepped out and beckoned to me.

I cursed under my breath, walked over, and asked, "What is it? Here to collect a debt?"

He said, "I told you at the club that you’d be doing me a small favor tonight."

I kept a cold face. "What kind?"

He pointed to the back seat, dropped a "It's all yours," and left with his men.

I stood there for several minutes, afraid to move. I was terrified it might be a bomb, or the corpse of that old man Li, or something else equally horrific.

Then my phone rang. Even though it was an unfamiliar number, I had a feeling it was Zheng Nanfeng.

When I answered, he laughed. "The guy is already dead drunk, so you’d better go easy on him."

Clutching the phone, I walked over and opened the back door. Sure enough, there was Luo Ange, his face flushed, lying there in a deep, unconscious stupor.

My heart ached instantly—not for him, but for myself.

So, seeing him still hurt, even knowing he was about to get engaged.

So, I wasn't as invulnerable as I had brainwashed myself into believing. I had no armor; he was my Achilles' heel.

On the other end of the line, Zheng Nanfeng laughed unkindly. "Do you like the big gift I sent you?"

"Damn it, Zheng Nanfeng, why don't you just die?"

"Oh, little sister, if I were to die, you’d be the one heartbroken to death."

"Doesn't he have a fiancée? Why send him to me instead of Yuan Shengxiao?"

Zheng Nanfeng dropped his playful tone. "Lanshan, you’ve had enough of bickering with Luo San. Couples fight in bed and make up in bed. Talk things through—there’s nothing that can’t be resolved."

As if anticipating what I was about to say, he added, "Save it, save it. Don't try to feed me any of that 'I don't love him' chicken soup for the soul; aren't you afraid of being struck by lightning?"

I hung up in a fit of rage, climbed into the car, and patted Luo Ange’s face.

He blinked his eyes open, looking like a child, his ink-jade eyes fixed on me.

We were so close I could smell his alcohol-laden breath.

I panicked and tried to scramble away, forgetting that half my body was still inside the car. As I stood up, I smashed my forehead against the car roof.

Luo Ange seemed to finally recognize me. He chuckled. "Little piggy."

His voice was filled with such doting tenderness that it made my heart ache. Clutching my head, I kicked his leg. "Are you dead yet? If not, get out."

He lay back down, looking up at me, and repeated, "Little piggy."

I couldn't control myself anymore. My pent-up fury was about to explode. I knelt on the seat, grabbed his collar, and dragged him out of the car.

I shouted, "Luo Ange, are you sick? We’ve broken up! What are you doing here? I don't want to see you at all. Go away!"

After saying this, I let him go and turned to leave.

Behind me, there was a loud crash as something hit the ground.

I turned around in a panic. Luo Ange was sitting on the floor, his upper body leaning against the car door, looking at me and smiling.

When the heartache reaches a certain level, it turns into tears. To think one could be wronged to this extent—I truly wanted to kill Luo Ange.

I wanted to, so very much.

But I didn't. I helped him up, brought him into the courtyard, settled him on the sofa, and went to the kitchen to boil some hangover soup.

As soon as A-Jiu saw Luo Ange, he rushed over and curled up at his feet, as docile as a kitten.

There was a noise behind me. Luo Ange was leaning against the doorway, watching me without a word.

I felt a bit flustered, thinking to myself that I would make him leave the moment he finished the soup.

He walked over, closing in on me step by step. I braced my hands against the counter and asked, stammering, "Luo Ange, what... what are you doing?"

He suddenly grabbed my chin and lowered his head to kiss me. I clenched my teeth, refusing to give in, but he suddenly scratched my palm. Caught off guard, I gasped, and my mouth fell open.

Something slid into my mouth—a taste both familiar and strange. I pushed him away in horror, finally realizing why he hadn't spoken: he had something in his mouth.

It was an egg!

This jerk, he really was a pervert.

Knowing full well I didn't even like cooked eggs, he had to use a raw one to torture me.

Seeing me about to spit it out, he lunged again, pinning me against the wall. With one hand he held my wrists above my head, and with the other, he gripped my chin, forcing another overwhelming kiss upon me.

He easily pried my lips apart. The fishy taste of the yolk swirled in my mouth, his tongue darting along with it, forcing me to swallow.

In that instant, memories of those intimate nights flashed through my mind—him holding me, loving me recklessly. How beautiful those days had been.

But now, this intimacy felt as disgusting as the taste in my mouth.

I pushed him away violently and leaned over the sink to rinse my mouth, suddenly wishing I could slaughter Luo Ange and deep-fry him.

My gaze was icy, but he just gave me a goofy smile. Before I could erupt, he swayed and wandered back out.

I brought the hangover soup out and found Luo Ange asleep on the sofa. I kicked him. "Here. Drink it and get out."

He downed it in one go, stood up unsteadily, and said with willful arrogance, "I want to take a shower."

I was furious. "The water’s off! Go home and wash."

He shoved the bowl at me and headed for the bathroom, barefoot. I rushed over to block the door.

His eyes were bloodshot; he must have had plenty to drink, and he seemed to be in a foul mood.

But what did that have to do with me? There was nothing left between us.

I paused, softening my tone. "I'll turn the water on for you. Go watch TV first."

He smiled and leaned down to kiss me. I pushed him away; the mere thought of him doing *that* with Yuan Shengxiao made my heart prickle.

He didn't seem to mind—perhaps he was too drunk—and he stumbled toward the living room.

I rummaged through the wardrobe until I found a pair of men's pajamas. It seemed to be something I had bought for Du Fanchuan ages ago, buried at the bottom of a box.

I knocked on the bathroom door, but there was no response. Fearing he might have drowned, I pushed the door open.

Luo Ange was leaning against the edge of the bathtub, looking like he had fallen asleep. I bent over to look at him, and even now, I couldn't help but think how handsome he was.

His ink-jade eyes suddenly snapped open. Before I could escape, a pair of hands pulled me into the tub.

I choked on a few mouthfuls of water, struggled to sit up, and punched the culprit in the chest.

I tried to stand up, but before I could step out of the tub, he pulled me back down.

This time, I had no chance to curse. He pinned my arms and pressed me against the edge of the tub, his lips crushing down on mine.

He acted as if he had a blood feud with me; not only did he press his entire weight onto me, but he also bit me.

I had already made a mistake once. As they say, a person who trips over the same stone twice is a fool.

My desperate struggle only fueled Luo Ange’s bloodthirsty madness. He tore at my clothes, mumbling drunken words: "Yi Lanshan, Yi Lanshan, let’s go to hell together. Let’s go to hell together."

I finally found an opening and slapped him hard across the face.

I sneered. "Luo Ange, I’m on my period. Do you want to 'fight in a bloodbath'?"

He finally let me go and slumped into the tub.

I adjusted my torn clothes and took a deep breath. "Luo Ange, let's be clear: there is nothing left between us. You are a man about to be engaged; please show some self-respect."

Hearing the word "engaged," he finally raised his head from the water, looking at me with wet eyes. "You know, too?"

I smiled and grabbed a towel to dry my hair. "The whole world knows. Yuan Shengxiao is quite beautiful; you’re a good match. Congratulations."

He gave a bitter smile. "I thought you would say you didn't want me to get engaged."

This time, it was my turn to smile bitterly. "Luo Ange, self-knowledge is a virtue. Don't worry, I won't cause any scenes."

I set the pajamas on the counter and, after a fit of sneezing, left the bathroom.

I was kind enough that night to let Luo Ange sleep in the bedroom while I took the guest room.

My stomach cramps made it hard to sleep, and in the middle of the night, I was startled awake by the sound of rain. I turned over and discovered someone sitting on my bed.

I didn't panic, but I turned on the bedside lamp and said irritably, "Luo Ange, do you have any idea how much of a jerk you are for disturbing someone's sleep?"

Under the lamplight, all traces of drunkenness were gone. He stared at me directly, looking as if he had something to say but couldn't get it out. My heart suddenly ached.

"Luo Ange, don't scare me. What's wrong?"
