He turned and walked away. Luo Anxin struggled and called out to her uncle by name, “Shu Congxuan, help me entertain my sister. Don’t let her leave.”

And so, I was politely and graciously invited into the living room by that very Shu Congxuan, where I caught sight of the lovely young woman sitting beside Mo Yinghuai, chatting and laughing together.

Today, Lei Zhiyi wore a lemon-yellow dress. She looked as if she had just turned eighteen, a perfect blend of beauty and allure.

When Mo Yinghuai saw us, she waved, “Congxuan, bring Miss Yi over. We’ll be serving dinner soon.”

I hesitated. I was an outsider, and this was clearly a family gathering. Staying would be awkward.

Shu Congxuan led me over, and only then did I notice that Mo Yinghuai and Lei Zhiyi sat on tall chairs, while on the sofa nearby, Luo Ange was holding Luo Anxin and teaching him how to solve a Rubik’s Cube.

Mo Yinghuai rose to guide me to a seat and asked with concern, “They told me you had a nosebleed. Are you all right now?”

I shook my head. Luo Anxin leapt out of Luo Ange’s arms, clutching the Rubik’s Cube, and frowned at me, asking, “Sister, do you know how to play this?”

I took it from him, my fingers moving swiftly. In a few moments, all six faces of the cube were perfectly aligned.

He shrieked in delight, “Wow! Sister, you’re amazing—way better than my dumb brother. Sister, teach me!”

Lei Zhiyi glanced at me, a hint of ingratiation in her eyes. “Anxin, I can play with the Rubik’s Cube too. Would you like me to teach you?”

Almost instinctively, I held out the cube to her, but Luo Anxin snatched it back impatiently. “No, I want Sister to teach me.”

Lei Zhiyi’s expression turned awkward. She produced a gift. “Be good, Xin’er. This is a present I brought for you. Ange said you like Transformers. I brought this back from America. Do you like it?”

Luo Anxin grew even more impatient and refused to take the gift. Instead, he tugged my hand, pulling me upstairs. “Sister, let’s go. Ignore them. Shu Congxuan, you come too!”

Lei Zhiyi looked as though she might burst into tears, casting a pleading glance at Luo Ange, but he feigned ignorance, flipping through a magazine with studied indifference.

Back in the room, Luo Anxin hopped onto the bed. I asked him why he refused to show Lei Zhiyi any courtesy, reminding him that she might one day be his sister-in-law.

He curled his lip. “There are plenty of people who want to be my sister-in-law. Who does she think she is?”

Shu Congxuan pushed open the door and entered, his gentle smile unchanged, and ruffled Luo Anxin’s hair. “You scoundrel, that’s your brother’s girlfriend. Aren’t you afraid to offend her?”

Luo Anxin looked utterly unconcerned. “Hmph. She’s not my girlfriend.”

I couldn’t help but laugh. At that moment, Mo Yinghuai and Lei Zhiyi walked in. I quickly stood to greet them.

Mo Yinghuai gave me a brief, appraising look, then turned to Shu Congxuan. “It seems this young lady and Congxuan get along very well.”

Suddenly noticing the person trailing after them, I smiled. “Indeed, it feels like we’ve met too late.”

Luo Ange came over, draping an arm around Lei Zhiyi’s shoulders with a doting air. “Are you hungry?”

Lei Zhiyi blushed and shook her head, nestling into his embrace and clutching his shirt. “No, I’m not.”

He whispered something in her ear, making her blush even more deeply. With a coquettish laugh, she swatted his chest. “You’re terrible!”

Looking at them, I had to admit they made a striking couple.

Luo Anxin glanced from one to the other, then, as if struck by an idea, said, “Grandma, doesn’t Uncle still not have a girlfriend? Let’s introduce Sister to Uncle. Then I’ll have an aunt!”

Mo Yinghuai smiled. “But both your uncle and Sister have to be willing.”

Luo Anxin turned to me. “Sister, would you agree?”

Caught off guard, I looked at Shu Congxuan, who smiled back at me. “Don’t scare her. Let’s go eat first.”

But Luo Anxin refused to give up, grabbing each of us by the hand. “Uncle, Sister, just get married already!”
