Chapter Thirty-Seven: Turbulence Arises Once More
“It's that damned Tian Tang Company again! Absolutely despicable!”
Inside the hospital room, Qin Tian shared with the two women the truth he had learned from the police interrogation. Shen Xiaoqing was so furious that she bared her two little canine teeth, grinding them in anger.
Jiang Yingying, on the other hand, remained silent. At this moment, all she hoped for was her father's speedy recovery. There was a mountain of company affairs waiting for him to manage.
If Jiang Tianxiang were to fall, the entire Tian Ying Group would be doomed!
“Hey, you! It's you!”
Just then, a voice sounded at the door. Qin Tian looked up and, to his surprise, saw Lin Zhiyong!
He was Lin Jian’s nephew—the very traffic officer who had ruined the Jiang family’s car!
Lin Zhiyong was also a bit startled to see Qin Tian there. His colleague had twisted his ankle, so he had come along to help take care of him.
“What’s wrong, Zhiyong?” Three or four other traffic officers appeared behind him, all glancing into the hospital room.
“Oh, nothing. Remember the guy I told you about last time? The punk who parked however he liked outside the mall? That’s him!” Lin Zhiyong pointed at Qin Tian.
“Him? He looks normal enough—doesn’t have three heads or six arms. I heard he even wanted to report you, is that true?”
One of Lin Zhiyong’s colleagues laughed, his eyes filled with contempt for Qin Tian.
“Him? Report me? Does he even have the guts?”
Lin Zhiyong joined in the laughter, clearly scornful. So many days had passed without a peep; he assumed Qin Tian didn’t dare make a complaint.
In truth, Qin Tian had just been entangled with all sorts of chaotic matters these days, which was why he hadn’t bothered with this fool. But unexpectedly, the man had now delivered himself right to his door. Since the opportunity had presented itself, Qin Tian had no intention of letting him off!
“I’ll give you one week. Fix my car and deliver it to me in person with an apology,” Qin Tian said.
The group was stunned for a moment, then burst into uproarious laughter.
“Did I hear that right? Zhiyong, did he just ask you to apologize to him? And even set you a deadline?”
“Hahaha! I’m dying here!”
Lin Zhiyong’s colleagues laughed uncontrollably.
Even Lin Zhiyong was amused by Qin Tian’s audacity. Couldn’t this kid see the situation he was in? If he had the ability, let him try to report him!
“You want me to fix your car and apologize? What a long daydream you must be having.”
“If you don’t come and get that car soon, I’ll just treat it as scrap,” Lin Zhiyong added with a mocking look.
“How can you be so unreasonable? You damaged our car on purpose, of course you have to make it right!” Shen Xiaoqing put her hands on her hips, fuming.
“Little lady, you parked wherever you pleased, so of course I towed it. If it got damaged, that just means your car couldn’t handle it. What’s that got to do with me?” Lin Zhiyong replied with a chuckle.
Qin Tian narrowed his eyes. The front and rear bumpers had clearly been smashed off with tools like hammers, not damaged by towing.
Now that he finally had time to settle things with Lin Zhiyong, he was determined to resolve this matter once and for all.
“I don’t want to waste words with you. Apologize and fix the car, or I’ll see you in court,” Qin Tian said.
“Are you sure you want to go up against me?” Lin Zhiyong squinted at him.
“I don’t want a fight. You damaged my car, so you should pay up. I admit I shouldn’t have parked there, but you shouldn’t have destroyed my car on purpose either,” Qin Tian replied.
“Zhiyong, what’s going on? I’m ready, let’s go,” said the colleague with the injured foot who approached at that moment.
“Nothing, let’s go,” Lin Zhiyong replied, giving Qin Tian a long, hard look before leaving with his group.
“You’re just going to let him off like that?” Shen Xiaoqing asked angrily after Lin Zhiyong had gone.
“No, even if I wanted to let him off, he wouldn’t let me off. That man is narrow-minded to the extreme,” Qin Tian said, his eyes narrowing. The look Lin Zhiyong had given him as he left was filled with venom; there was no doubt he’d cause more trouble.
In the days that followed, Qin Tian stayed at the hospital with Jiang Yingying, while Shen Xiaoqing returned home, though she visited every day to see both Jiang Yingying and Jiang Tianxiang.
Three days passed, and Jiang Tianxiang still had not awakened. This made Qin Tian and the others wonder if he might have suffered a brain injury as well.
But the doctors’ examinations revealed no injury to the brain. His physical functions had recovered to the level of a normal person; all that remained was a bone graft.
Qin Tian also checked personally and found nothing abnormal in Jiang Tianxiang’s brain.
When he would wake up had become an open question.
One day at noon, Qin Tian went downstairs to buy lunch and suddenly noticed a shadowy figure trailing him.
Someone was following him? That was his first thought.
Instead of heading straight to the cafeteria, Qin Tian walked several circuits within the hospital.
As he made his rounds, he confirmed that the furtive figure continued to tail him—there was no doubt about it.
Qin Tian considered his options, then made his way to a secluded part of the hospital grounds, an area slated to become a parking lot but where construction had stalled for various reasons.
The site was littered with building materials, unsupervised, now more a wasteland than anything else.
“Come out. No need to hide anymore,” Qin Tian said calmly, turning to glance into a corner.
A figure emerged, dressed in casual clothes with a mask covering his face.
Qin Tian narrowed his eyes, searching his memory, and recognition flashed in an instant. “It’s you!”
“You recognized me?” the masked man asked.
“You’re Lin Zhiyong’s colleague, aren’t you?” Qin Tian replied.
“Damn, I’m dressed like this, even wearing a mask—how did you know?” the masked man said, speechless.
“That mole on your eyebrow is a dead giveaway, don’t you think?” Qin Tian shrugged.
The man immediately touched the mole above his eyebrow and, frustrated, tore off his mask and tossed it aside.
“So what if you recognized me? You’re really arrogant, coming here on your own to such a deserted, unmonitored place,” Lin Zhiyong’s colleague sneered.
“Birds of a feather flock together. I bet Lin Zhiyong and his people are nearby. Why not call them out as well?” Qin Tian replied coolly.
“Arrogant! Utterly arrogant!” The man, irritated by Qin Tian’s composure, pulled out his phone and called for backup.
Soon enough, Lin Zhiyong arrived with four others. Qin Tian didn’t recognize any of the new faces and couldn’t tell if they were colleagues or hired thugs.
“Cocky, aren’t you?” Lin Zhiyong looked at Qin Tian with open provocation.
“And who’s really being cocky here?” Qin Tian retorted.
They had destroyed his car, refused to apologize, and now had come to ambush him. For law enforcement officers, wasn’t this a flagrant violation of the law?
“Your car? I’ve already had it scrapped. Even if you tried to claim it, all you’d get is a pile of junk metal.”
“That’s the price for crossing me, Lin Zhiyong,” he declared with satisfaction.
Qin Tian’s gaze turned icy. These fools truly had no idea what was coming for them.
