Chapter Thirty-Nine: Awakening (Midnight)
"Qin Tian, you can't lay a finger on me!" Lin Zhiyong forced himself to remain calm as he spoke, but the fear in his eyes had already betrayed him.
"Oh? Tell me, why can't I touch you?" Qin Tian asked with interest.
"My father is Shen Mingfei!" Lin Zhiyong said.
"Yes, yes, I know your father is Shen Mingfei, the Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, very impressive, right?" Qin Tian replied.
"That's right! So you can't do anything to me!" Lin Zhiyong breathed a sigh of relief, thinking Qin Tian was afraid of his father.
The fear in his eyes gradually faded, and arrogance began to return to his face. His confidence was restored!
Ha! With his father as the Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, Qin Tian surely wouldn't dare touch him!
The situation wasn't in his favor now, so he'd leave for today and reclaim his pride another day.
"You seem to think I'm afraid of your father?" Qin Tian asked.
Lin Zhiyong was taken aback, nearly blurting out: Isn't that so? You're not afraid?
"Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm really not afraid of your father. Since he's the Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, I'm sure he's a good official who knows right from wrong."
"So, since you came to cause trouble and tried to put me in harm's way, even if I hurt you, it would be self-defense." Qin Tian said with a playful smile.
Lin Zhiyong was dumbfounded—Qin Tian actually wasn't afraid!
What should he do now?
Qin Tian slowly raised his hand, and Lin Zhiyong screamed in terror, "Ah! You can't touch me! You can't hit me!"
But after holding his arms up to protect his face for a while and seeing no harm come to him, he slowly lowered his arms.
The scene before him stunned him. Qin Tian had only raised his hand to pick his nose!
Lin Zhiyong's face turned red instantly. Embarrassment! Shame! A mix of emotions overwhelmed him, and he wished he could find a hole to hide in. He felt utterly humiliated.
"For someone with such a timid nature, how can you act so ruthlessly? Is it just because you have a powerful father?" Qin Tian said, picking his nose.
"I'm actually quite curious. Your father is already the Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, such a prominent figure—why would he marry into your mother's family?" Qin Tian asked.
Back when Lin Jian told Qin Tian about Lin Zhiyong's background, Qin Tian was puzzled—why was his surname Lin and not Shen?
"You married into a family! My father didn't marry in!" Lin Zhiyong retorted loudly, as if Qin Tian had struck a sore spot.
Qin Tian raised his eyebrows in surprise. It seemed that whenever his father was mentioned, Lin Zhiyong grew bolder.
"So tell me, why is your surname Lin and not Shen?" Qin Tian asked.
"I... That's a family matter, none of your business!" Lin Zhiyong replied, raising his chin defiantly.
"Fine, if you won't say, I'll have to take action." Qin Tian raised his hand, pretending to hit Lin Zhiyong.
Lin Zhiyong immediately covered his head with both hands and shrank back.
"I'll tell you, I'll tell you," Lin Zhiyong said, his neck drawn in.
"Look at you, such a coward," Qin Tian said, withdrawing his hand. To deal with this kind of pampered brat, you had to be even tougher than him! Of course, you needed the strength to back it up.
"My mother's family is very traditional. She's the eldest daughter, so whether she has sons or daughters, their surname must be Lin!"
"My mother said my father was initially against it, but they loved each other deeply, so he eventually compromised."
"But my father absolutely didn't marry into her family! He's a good man—he made concessions for love!"
As he spoke, Lin Zhiyong lifted his head proudly, as if it were something to be honored.
Qin Tian nodded. So that's how it was.
"Your father is a good man, but how did you turn out to be such a disappointment?" Qin Tian asked.
"I..." Lin Zhiyong started to reply, but didn't dare retort for fear of being beaten.
"Alright, since you seem well-off, compensate me with a brand-new car, and we'll call it even. Be smarter from now on—if you come looking for trouble again, you know what will happen!" Qin Tian said, unwilling to waste more time on people like him. A proper lesson was enough.
"Fine! I'll pay for a new car at full price!" Lin Zhiyong gritted his teeth and agreed.
Qin Tian looked into Lin Zhiyong's eyes and sensed he was up to something, plotting mischief in his mind.
But since he could handle Lin Zhiyong once, he could do so again!
So, if Lin Zhiyong dared to cause trouble again, the outcome wouldn’t be as friendly as today.
Watching the six depart, Qin Tian glanced at the time and cursed inwardly. Jiang Yingying and the others must be starving by now, given how late it was. He hurried to the cafeteria and grabbed three meals to take upstairs.
"Qin, our miracle doctor, why are you only just back? If you didn't return soon, we'd have thought you'd gone missing!" Shen Xiaoqing complained.
"Remember Lin Zhiyong? That brat came looking for trouble just now, so I was delayed a bit," Qin Tian said apologetically.
"What? Were you hurt?" Jiang Yingying, who was wiping Jiang Tianxiang's hands, immediately looked up and asked.
Shen Xiaoqing glanced at Jiang Yingying, winking repeatedly. Was she really this worried?
"Who am I? How could I get hurt? I sent them all running," Qin Tian said with a smile, turning around to show he was unscathed.
Jiang Yingying secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Just then, Jiang Yingying felt a large hand rest gently on the back of her own. The familiar touch made her body tense instantly, her eyes reddening.
She lowered her head and saw that Jiang Tianxiang had opened his eyes. Unable to control her emotions, she bent down and hugged Jiang Tianxiang tightly, crying out, "Dad!"
"Wonderful! Uncle Jiang is awake!" Shen Xiaoqing exclaimed with joy.
Qin Tian nodded slightly. Finally, he was awake. Once the leg bone transplant was complete, and with a good recovery, he could leave the hospital in a month or so.
"There, don’t cry, you’ve worried enough." Jiang Tianxiang gently patted Jiang Yingying’s back.
"Dad, I thought I was going to lose you," Jiang Yingying sobbed, her body shuddering.
"But I’m fine, aren’t I? Don’t cry. How long was I unconscious?" Jiang Tianxiang asked.
"Five days," Jiang Yingying replied, straightening up.
"Five days... my leg..." Jiang Tianxiang glanced at his thigh.
"Dad, your leg is fine. Qin Tian healed it for you!" Jiang Yingying said.
"Healed?" Jiang Tianxiang remembered how his leg had been crushed against the car body, and he thought it would almost certainly be lost. Qin Tian healed it?
"It’s like this, Dad. Qin Tian..."
Jiang Yingying told him everything—how Qin Tian saved him and uncovered the mastermind behind the accident.
"Yingying, help me sit up," Jiang Tianxiang said.
Jiang Yingying nodded, adjusted the bed’s height, and helped him sit up.
"Thank you, Qin Tian," Jiang Tianxiang said solemnly.
"I was only doing what I should," Qin Tian replied with a smile.
