Chapter Fifty: A Sad Story (Fourth Update)
Tang Chengli was truly infuriated by Qin Tian’s arrogance, wishing he could rush over and land a few punches, but he managed to restrain himself.
“Hmph! Since you can’t get in, just wait to lose!” Tang Chengli sneered coldly.
“Did you hear that? Did you hear that? He indirectly admitted we’re here for the competition!” Qin Tian immediately grabbed the staff and exclaimed.
“This…” The staff member was momentarily stunned, for Tang Chengli’s words did indeed count as an acknowledgment that Qin Tian and his companions were participants.
Tang Chengli was dumbfounded as well, realizing he had misspoken. But so what? He simply refused to let them in!
“Did you hear anything?” Tang Chengli glared at the staff member, asking menacingly.
“I… I didn’t hear a thing!” the staff replied promptly, not wanting to lose his job. High pay and easy work—though sometimes it meant doing things against his conscience. But these days, if you don’t compromise for money, you’ll end up starving!
“Jiang Feng! Come over here!” Just then, Qin Tian spotted Jiang Feng walking in the distance and shouted out to him.
Jiang Feng, puzzled, thought he heard his name. He looked toward the entrance and immediately saw Qin Tian and the others.
“What’s going on?” Jiang Feng approached and asked.
“A few troublemakers. Come on, let’s go back and prepare for the race,” Tang Chengli said, slinging his arm around Jiang Feng’s shoulder.
From Tang Chengli’s words, Jiang Feng immediately understood there had been discord between Qin Tian’s group and Tang Chengli’s people.
However, today’s horse race required the Jiang family to participate. Only by doing so could they ensure the Jiang family lost convincingly.
Among the Four Young Masters of Wu City, Jiang Feng was actually the most mature, knowing that agreements made by their elders must not be easily broken.
“You all go in first. I’ll handle this,” Jiang Feng said, removing Tang Chengli’s hand from his shoulder.
“Jiang Feng! Are you going to let them in? I’m telling you, if you do, our brotherhood is finished!” Tang Chengli threatened.
Qin Tian, watching from the side, was speechless. How could someone be so childish? He looked to be in his twenties—did wealth really lower intelligence?
“Don’t make trouble. If this goes wrong, Uncle Tang will be furious,” Jiang Feng said, equally exasperated.
Tang Chengli’s eyes flickered. “Fine, let them in. But they’ll lose miserably.”
“Kid, prepare to die!” Tang Chengli jabbed Qin Tian hard in the chest.
But he found his finger seemed to hit a stone, making him clutch his finger in pain, his face contorted.
“Idiot,” Qin Tian muttered, ignoring Tang Chengli and the others as he led Jiang Yingying and Shen Xiaoqing inside.
Jiang Feng shook his head and left as well. He had much to prepare; this horse race was exceptionally grand, drawing elites from across the country. Its scale was almost comparable to a certain G-level competition.
“Qin Tian, are you really confident you’ll win?” Jiang Yingying asked nervously.
“Of course. As long as we beat those four families, that’s enough, right?” Qin Tian replied.
“Yes, as long as we defeat Tian Tang Group, Fulai Media, Bodhi Society, and Empire Group,” Jiang Yingying nodded.
“Don’t worry, it’s a piece of cake.” Qin Tian made an OK gesture.
But when they reached Stable No. 3, they were stunned.
An awful stench greeted them. The place was a mess—their horses had diarrhea!
Now, the animals were sprawled limply on the ground, their breathing shallow through their noses, looking dangerously close to death.
“This, this, this…” Shen Xiaoqing pinched her nose, eyes wide. She started to speak but was choked by the foul smell, quickly shutting her mouth.
“Qin Tian, what do we do now?” Jiang Yingying panicked, covering her mouth and nose.
“I didn’t expect them to stoop so low!”
“But then again, it’s not surprising—trash people only do trashy things,” Qin Tian sighed.
“No big deal. I’ll give them a couple of needles; they should manage until the race ends,” Qin Tian crouched to examine the horses, then took out silver needles and pricked them in a few spots.
Sure enough, after a while, the horses got back up, affectionately nudging Qin Tian’s arm.
“This is only temporary. After the race, I’ll treat you further,” Qin Tian said, stroking the horse’s long face.
Torturing animals for victory was something Qin Tian could never tolerate!
Animals have feelings—they’re not cold, unfeeling stones. Call Qin Tian a justice warrior if you will, but he simply couldn’t stand people abusing animals.
If you eat pork, you kill pigs; if you eat chicken, you kill chickens—that’s the food chain. But abusing animals is another matter entirely!
“Well, they’re alright now?” Just then, Tang Chengli appeared again—likely the culprit behind this scheme!
“Tang Chengli! How could you play dirty behind our backs? Shameful!” Shen Xiaoqing, her small tiger teeth showing, shouted angrily.
“Pretty lady, you look even more beautiful when you’re angry,” Tang Chengli licked his lips.
Shen Xiaoqing glared at Tang Chengli and hid behind Qin Tian.
This scene annoyed Tang Chengli, who had long regarded Shen Xiaoqing as his plaything.
“Kid, I advise you to quit now. Even if your horses recover, they’ll never beat my Flying Mantis!” Tang Chengli laughed.
“Flying Mantis? Did you know mine is called the Soaring Monkey?” Qin Tian replied playfully.
“Soaring Monkey? Are you talking about yourself? You bounce around like a monkey here!”
“Count yourself lucky—the horses can race again! Otherwise, you’d be eliminated straight away, and that would be hilarious!” Tang Chengli this time was not angry.
“Actually, this horse has an injured hind leg. We may have to withdraw,” Qin Tian said regretfully.
“What?” Jiang Yingying and Shen Xiaoqing were shocked, disbelief on their faces. Wouldn’t that mean the Jiang family was doomed?
“Oh? Injured hind leg?” Tang Chengli was delighted. The tide had turned; the horse still couldn’t run!
He felt truly blessed by heaven!
“See? Even fate isn’t on your side! Pack up and go home early!” Tang Chengli laughed heartily.
“I’m not really sure. I don’t know much about horses. Maybe you, Master Li, could take a look? See if it’s injured enough to race?” Qin Tian asked.
“Fine, I’ll check it for you and put your hopes to rest!” The title “Master Li” made Tang Chengli feel smug, thinking Qin Tian was surrendering.
Tang Chengli ran proudly to the horse’s rear.
“Where? Where’s the injury? I don’t see anything!” Tang Chengli was perplexed—there was no wound on the horse’s leg.
“Master Li, look closer. Examine it carefully,” Qin Tian encouraged.
“I don’t see it.” Tang Chengli leaned in, nearly pressing his face to the horse’s hindquarters.
At that moment, Qin Tian patted the horse’s neck.
Bang!
A deafening sound and a wave of stench erupted. The group immediately pinched their noses.
Tang Chengli emerged from behind the horse, filthy and terrified. He touched his cheeks, looked at his hands, and screamed.
This was a truly tragic tale…
