Chapter Fifty-Four: Frightened (Part Two)
“Hurry, hurry, I want to raise my bet! Put everything on horse number three to win!”
Some sharp-eyed spectators had noticed the strange elimination of two horses, suspecting it was connected to Qin Tian, and they shouted eagerly to increase their wagers.
“What’s the name of horse number three?” a foreigner asked a staff member in awkward Chinese.
“Just a moment, sir.” The staff quickly flipped through the registration list.
“Skyrocket Monkey?” The staff paused, startled by the odd name.
“Skyrocket Monkey? What does that mean?” The foreigner was puzzled.
“It means very fast.” The staff offered a casual explanation, hardly about to confess it was actually the name of a firecracker.
“Amazing, amazing! I’ll bet ten more units on it to win!” The foreigner nodded repeatedly, giving a thumbs-up.
Tang Yiliu exchanged greetings with Wade Griffin, then walked to a corner with a dark expression and dialed Tang Chengli’s phone.
“Was it you?” Tang Yiliu barked.
“Dad... I didn’t expect that kid to be so tricky,” Tang Chengli whispered.
“You little bastard! You ruined my plans!” Tang Yiliu cursed.
“If I’m a little bastard, doesn’t that make you a bastard too?” Tang Chengli muttered under his breath.
“What did you say?” Tang Yiliu glared and snapped again.
“Nothing... nothing at all...” Tang Chengli quickly fell silent.
“Stay out of trouble!” Tang Yiliu said, ending the call abruptly.
Tang Chengli put away his phone, glaring at Qin Tian in the arena, clenching his teeth. Damn it, he had to find a chance to kill that little brat!
In the second lap, Qin Tian used similar tactics to eliminate two more competitors.
“Go! Go, Skyrocket Monkey!”
“Wow! Skyrocket Monkey is awesome!”
More and more people learned the name Skyrocket Monkey and began cheering for it. Though they didn’t understand how Qin Tian made those riders—or their horses—perform so strangely, it didn’t stop them from enjoying the thrilling race.
By the third lap, another two were eliminated.
At this point, the remaining jockeys avoided Qin Tian entirely, not daring to run alongside him for fear of suffering the same fate.
“Sorry about this.” In the fourth lap, Qin Tian took out two more.
Qin Tian had no idea which horses belonged to Bodhi Society, Fulai Media, or Imperial Group, so his only option was to eliminate everyone and claim first place.
By the final lap, only Qin Tian and one other remained on the track.
That man was the senior rider who had kindly reminded Qin Tian of the race rules before the start.
“Uncle, let me ask you, do you belong to Imperial Group? Or Bodhi Society? Fulai Media? Or perhaps Tian Tang Group?” Qin Tian inquired.
He had a good impression of this uncle, so if he wasn’t from any of those four companies, he might let him go.
“Me? Of course not,” the man replied with a smile.
Qin Tian pondered for a moment, but decided, according to the principle “better to err on the side of caution,” to whistle twice. He didn’t make the horse fall, just slowed its pace.
In the end, Qin Tian crossed the finish line first, winning the championship!
The whole stadium erupted. No one expected such a dark horse to emerge!
Many late-betting spectators won big and were overjoyed, shouting the name “Skyrocket Monkey” in celebration.
“That bastard!” Tang Yiliu was furious, punching the glass.
“Ahem.” Jiang Zhengye of Imperial Group coughed, signaling Tang Yiliu to control his temper—Wade Griffin was still present.
“Mr. Griffin, apologies for my outburst,” Tang Yiliu took a deep breath.
“No problem,” Griffin smiled, then left the VIP section.
Tang Yiliu and the others followed.
“Wow! He really won! Qin Tian, you’re amazing!” Shen Xiaoqing rushed over and threw herself at Qin Tian as he returned in triumph.
Qin Tian was momentarily stunned; it was the first time a girl had hugged him like this, and the sensation was strangely wonderful.
Nearby, Jiang Yingying frowned slightly, unable to tell if she was jealous or simply thought Shen Xiaoqing’s public embrace was inappropriate.
“Qin Tian, thank you.” Jiang Yingying pulled Shen Xiaoqing back and thanked Qin Tian.
“It was a promise to Uncle Jiang; of course I had to fulfill it,” Qin Tian replied with a smile.
Just then, Tang Chengli led a group over, surrounding Qin Tian.
Tang Chengli was furious today; he didn’t care about anything else—he had to make Qin Tian pay!
“Grab him!” Tang Chengli waved his hand, and his followers rushed forward.
Qin Tian quickly pulled both girls behind him. He hadn’t expected Tang Chengli to stir up trouble again; it looked like he’d have to get tough this time!
Otherwise, this pampered rich kid would never learn!
But just as Qin Tian was rolling up his sleeves, several figures stepped in front of him.
“What do you think you’re doing? Assaulting someone in public? That’s wrong!” A few adult men stretched out their arms, blocking Qin Tian.
Qin Tian’s brilliant performance in the arena had won him a legion of fans; his casual whistling to control the horses seemed almost supernatural—a truly remarkable skill!
“If you don’t want trouble, get out of the way!” Tang Chengli frowned, surprised by these busybodies intervening.
“If you dare lay a hand on him, we’ll call the General Administration!” one man threatened, holding up his phone.
“Move aside!” A loud voice came from behind Tang Chengli; Tang Yiliu had arrived.
Tang Chengli immediately stepped back, ceding his position.
“Gentlemen, please step aside. We need a word with this young man,” Tang Yiliu said, cupping his hands politely.
The men exchanged glances and moved aside.
Anyone coming to watch the race wasn’t a fool; they recognized Tang Yiliu and dared block Tang Chengli, but not him.
“You...” Tang Yiliu started to speak, but Wade Griffin pulled him aside.
“Xiao Tian, do you still remember me?” Wade Griffin smiled at Qin Tian.
“And you are?” Qin Tian looked puzzled. Why was this curly-haired foreigner suddenly greeting him? He didn’t recall knowing anyone like this.
“I’m Wade—Wade Griffin,” Griffin replied.
Qin Tian searched his memory for a long moment, and finally remembered.
“So it’s you! When did your hair become so curly? You look like a poodle—I almost didn’t recognize you!” Qin Tian joked.
Tang Yiliu was terrified—how dared Qin Tian speak to Wade Griffin that way? Wasn’t he courting disaster?
But contrary to expectations, Wade Griffin wasn’t angry; he just scratched his head and grinned.
