Killer Mouse really felt like he had been screwed over. Damn it, he had been fooled again. Was his head made of donkey brains?

“You shameless pair! I will not let you off!” Killer Mouse roared.

Bang, bang, bang!

As he spoke, he fired three shots straight at the iron gate. In an instant, Nangong Xiaoe and Qin Tian saw three fresh bullet dents appear in the metal.

“What now?” Qin Tian asked.

“Since he’s here to kill you, we can’t let him go,” Nangong Xiaoe said coldly.

“You mean to...” Qin Tian could feel the killing intent in her eyes.

“An eye for an eye. A killer should expect to be killed.” Nangong Xiaoe curled her lips.

“You’re going to kill him?” Qin Tian drew in a sharp breath. Murder was something he had never experienced.

“I’ll handle it in a moment,” Nangong Xiaoe said with a nod, knowing Qin Tian might be a little resistant.

But she was different. She had long wandered along the edge of danger and carried out who knew how many assassinations. To her, killing one man meant very little.

Besides, the other side was clearly a villain. Killing someone like that brought even less guilt.

From the direction and position of the bullet dents in the door, Nangong Xiaoe roughly figured out where Killer Mouse was standing.

So she pulled the iron gate open at once and hurled a flying knife toward him.

Killer Mouse’s eyes narrowed. He had not expected Nangong Xiaoe to counterattack like this. Wasn’t she exposing herself directly beneath his barrel?

But he had no chance to fire immediately, because he first had to dodge the knife.

Killer Mouse dropped his rifle and performed a graceful three-hundred-and-sixty-degree side somersault in midair. The blade sliced past the loose hair hanging from his head.

“So flashy,” Nangong Xiaoe muttered. She flicked out three more flying knives in succession, each aimed at his forehead, chest, and a certain unmentionable place.

Killer Mouse cursed inwardly. Things were bad now. In midair, he could not twist away at all. Teeth clenched, he reached for his rifle again.

Clang, clang.

Two metallic collisions rang out.

The two knives aimed at his forehead and chest were knocked aside by the rifle, while the third knife plunged into Killer Mouse’s thigh.

Because he had picked up the rifle, his weight increased, and so did his rate of descent. That was why the blade struck the upper part of his thigh; if he had not fallen faster, it would likely have landed squarely in that unmentionable spot.

After landing, Killer Mouse looked at the knife in his thigh, yanked it out in one motion, then quickly tore a strip from his clothing and wrapped it tightly around the wound.

Just as he wanted to fire again, Nangong Xiaoe had already withdrawn behind the door.

Killer Mouse narrowed his eyes and weighed his options. Should he retreat?

He had already missed the best chance for assassination, and with Nangong Xiaoe blocking the way, there was no telling whether he might end up losing his life here instead.

But then he thought of his master’s orders and the tempting reward, and he found himself unwilling to give up, unwilling to leave.

“What is Qin Tian to you? I’ll give you fifty million. Hand him over to me!” Killer Mouse gritted his teeth and shouted an astronomical figure.

Nangong Xiaoe froze for a moment. Fifty million? She could not tell whether Killer Mouse was really this generous or simply had a rotten memory. He still wanted to buy Qin Tian with money?

She did not understand that once Killer Mouse completed the task, he would earn the chance to enter that place. And once he found his opportunity there, it would be worth far more than a mere fifty million.

So Killer Mouse was gambling. He was prepared to gamble everything.

“This fool wants to be cheated again?” Qin Tian was startled as well. He was actually offering money so eagerly?

“I’m afraid it won’t be easy. He should not be that foolish anymore,” Nangong Xiaoe said.

“Bring Qin Tian out. We’ll exchange cash for the man face-to-face!” Killer Mouse said.

“See? He’s gotten smarter,” Nangong Xiaoe said with a shrug.

“If the distance were a little closer, how sure are you that you could take him down?” Qin Tian asked after some thought.

“You want to use this chance to get closer to him?” Nangong Xiaoe asked.

“Yes. At close range, your flying knives should be even more lethal,” Qin Tian said with a nod.

“No! It’s too dangerous! I can’t let you take the risk!” Nangong Xiaoe shook her head at once.

“It’s fine. If we don’t deal with him, he’ll only remain a problem later,” Qin Tian said.

Nangong Xiaoe thought it over. Reasonably speaking, he was right. But when it came to letting Qin Tian take the risk, she hesitated.

“Let’s do it this way. Don’t hesitate,” Qin Tian said.

“All right then!” Nangong Xiaoe clenched her teeth.

“Fine. Fifty million. Money for the man!” Nangong Xiaoe shouted through the gate.

“Good! Then come out!” Killer Mouse replied.

Yet inwardly, he sneered. He dared bet that Nangong Xiaoe would never truly hand Qin Tian over to him, because from the way she and Qin Tian had just teamed up to trick him, it was obvious the two were far closer than they pretended.

In truth, Killer Mouse merely wanted to use this opportunity to lure Nangong Xiaoe and Qin Tian out from behind the door.

Then he would put a couple of rounds into both of them.

“Throw your gun aside, far enough that you can’t reach it!” Nangong Xiaoe shouted to Killer Mouse through the crack in the door.

Killer Mouse blinked in mild surprise. He had not expected her to be so alert.

“All right, I’ve thrown it aside. Come out,” Killer Mouse said.

Through the gap in the door, Nangong Xiaoe saw that Killer Mouse’s rifle had indeed been tossed far away.

So Nangong Xiaoe took Qin Tian by the arm and led him out. They were still about thirty paces from Killer Mouse.

Killer Mouse narrowed his eyes. The rifle was gone, but he still had a handgun.

He silently counted in his head: a little closer... twenty-five paces... twenty-two... twenty...!

Nangong Xiaoe was also counting in her mind: closer, just a little closer. Fifteen steps left!

When the distance between the two sides had shrunk to ten steps, Killer Mouse suddenly drew a sidearm from his waist.

At the same time, three flying knives appeared in Nangong Xiaoe’s hand.

Nangong Xiaoe was faster by a split second and sent the knives flying first. Killer Mouse was half a beat slower, but bullets were much faster than flying knives.

“Watch out!” Qin Tian shoved Nangong Xiaoe aside, and the bullet streaked past between them.

Thud, thud.

The sound of blades sinking into flesh rang out twice. Of the three flying knives, one missed and two hit true, embedding themselves in Killer Mouse’s lower abdomen and left chest.

Killer Mouse opened his mouth, his face full of disbelief. His handgun had actually been defeated by flying knives?

Then Killer Mouse collapsed to the ground.

“He’s still breathing. Brother Qin, I’ll get someone to take him back. I should head back too, see if I can pry some information out of him. I’ll also use our internal network to investigate properly and see who exactly is paying for your life.”

Nangong Xiaoe stepped forward, checked Killer Mouse’s breath, and confirmed that he was still alive.

“All right. Be careful on the way back,” Qin Tian said with a nod.

“You too. There may be more assassins lurking out there,” Nangong Xiaoe reminded him.

At the same time, on the roof of a tall building diagonally opposite them, a glint flashed and vanished. It was the reflection of sunlight from a mirrored lens.

The mysterious man in the black robe had seen everything through his telescope. He was so furious that he gritted his teeth. He had actually lost a capable subordinate!

Why was killing Qin Tian so difficult?
