Volume Two: Bandits in This Land – Author's Note on Official Release

Am I Really an Immortal? The Ring of Hejian 634 words 2026-04-11 18:01:52

There was once a young man who longed to set something down in writing.

The urge to write a book had never truly ceased, though the resolve to pick up the pen was perpetually deferred. One day, finding himself too listless for any other task, he attempted to write an unremarkable opening piece, a blend of classical and vernacular prose.

From that moment on, he set pen to paper and could not stop. Alas, his years were green, and he could only start from the very beginning, piece by piece. Ten thousand words for the contract, then the official launch—five months later, he finally took that leap.

There were no surprises, no dramatic tropes; no one dismounted, and no one stripped off their robes.

Once, when the young man was down on his luck, he spoke to the flowers, saying: "To admire one's own lonely fragrance—that is the most beautiful thing of all."

It is a pity that my prose still falls far short, and it is lamentable that my days ahead remain long and tedious. It is said that in literature, there is no second place, yet for thousands of years, a single embroidered pen has weighed down half the empire. I have much to learn; if I can absorb it into my mind and, better yet, write it down, I shall be content.

Following in the footsteps of those who came before, I tread carefully. One day, I hope to write something that is worth your time—even if it is only worth your criticism.

I am fond of preaching reason, but the truths within books are not taken to heart, and so the world is filled with petty, scavenging souls. It is a pity that there is so much evil in this world, which is precisely why a single act of kindness appears so precious. Yet, most people prefer to feign sleep; even a fierce tiger will remain in eternal slumber.

But once I have honed my craft, I wish to become a swordsman who keeps his blade sheathed, transcribing this tapestry of beauty onto paper.

I encourage you all to join me in this endeavor. Should you wish to curse my work, I shall take it as a gesture of favor; whether thunder or dew, all is a grace from heaven.

(P.S. I have created a reader group: 1079269822. It is just the beginning, so there is no one there yet... Everyone is welcome to come and hang out.)
