Summary of Volume One

Infinite Journey from Scratch At the time, it was merely called ordinary. 474 words 2026-04-13 08:32:26

According to the habit of my favorite writer, it’s necessary to reflect and summarize after finishing each volume...

Looking back at the first volume, well, hardly anyone read it, and there’s no contract. It seems destined for obscurity. But the cultivation of good habits has to start somewhere—like journeying far begins with a single step, or climbing high begins from the ground.

The first volume was a beginner’s first attempt, aiming to portray the psychological transformation of an ordinary college student entering the world of endless possibilities. But it seems to have failed, because the pace was too slow and it lacked excitement. This might be a key reason why it hasn’t been picked up.

Secondly, the subject matter is cliché, without any standout moments. I imposed my own preferences onto readers and editors, which, in hindsight, appears problematic.

Thirdly, it’s rather watered-down. I learned how to pad out the story before learning anything else. Some say you should start with three golden chapters—jump straight into the action—but I wanted authenticity, so let the protagonist muddle along. There’s also the suggestion to minimize daily life in the real world, and just jump straight into the journey.

I understand all these principles, but I just can’t bring myself to follow them. I want the protagonist’s character to be more nuanced, not just driven by utility.

Lastly, what have I gained? I’ve learned to pad out my writing, and I feel able to express the ideas in my mind more fluently.

I’ll keep writing seriously.
