Chu Xiao returned to the weapons research laboratory and saw everyone working feverishly to upgrade their existing weapons. No one noticed his arrival, and he had no intention of disturbing them.

Instead, he went alone to the riverbank, wondering how Hades could have researched and manufactured robots so quickly. The speed was simply unbelievable.

With Kyushu’s manpower and resources, mass production should not have been slower than Hades’s. It might even have been faster. Chu Xiao could not make sense of it. It was almost as though Hades’s robots had appeared out of thin air.

However, Hades was also planning a grand scheme. He had little confidence in conquering the United States, and he was certain that Kyushu would send Chu Xiao to reinforce it.

“Report! Hades’s army is on the move. They’re all heading toward the United States. The United States may be finished!”

Chu Xiao was startled. Had they not just driven Hades back? How could he have assembled an army so quickly and launched an attack on the United States? Where had all these robots come from?

There was no time to think about it. Chu Xiao immediately went to find Commander One. He could not allow the United States to fall. They had to send reinforcements at once.

“Commander One, according to our intelligence, Hades has once again assembled an army and is preparing to attack the United States. The Americans may not be able to hold out. We must send reinforcements immediately!”

“But if we go to support the United States, what happens if Hades sends troops to attack us instead?”

Commander One hesitated. He feared that Hades was plotting a deception—appearing to attack the United States while actually luring Kyushu’s forces away and taking advantage of its weakened defenses.

“We can’t worry about all that now. I’ll take two thousand men to support the United States. The rest will remain here to defend the city.”

After giving it some thought, Commander One finally agreed. He understood that if the other three nations were destroyed, Kyushu would be left isolated and would be unable to resist Hades for long.

Just as they made the decision to reinforce the United States, Chu Xiao and Commander One heard an alarm. Hades had sent a small portion of his robots to hold Kyushu back and delay its reinforcements.

“Warriors! Hades’s robots are outside the city, trying to delay our support for the United States. We must break through immediately. Otherwise, the United States will never withstand Hades’s iron advance!”

To reach the United States as quickly as possible, Chu Xiao decided to lead his men out of the city and carve a path through the enemy. Every second mattered. Each moment of delay meant greater danger for the United States.

“Once we leave the city, don’t get bogged down in battle. Head straight for the United States!”

When Chu Xiao saw the robots outside the city, he was stunned. After their recent battles, Hades had already suffered heavy losses. These robots appeared to be the main force he had left. How could he still have enough troops to attack the United States?

That thought crossed Chu Xiao’s mind only for an instant. His intelligence could not be wrong.

“Charge!”

At Chu Xiao’s command, everyone fought their way toward the United States. They quickly carved a path through the robots, and Chu Xiao did not stop. He headed straight for the United States.

When Chu Xiao arrived, Hades’s army had not yet appeared. This left him deeply puzzled. Why were Hades’s robots moving so slowly this time?

Just as he was wondering about it, the alarm in the United States rang out.

“Hades’s army is here! Everyone, prepare for battle!”

The moment he heard that Hades had arrived, Chu Xiao immediately rose and went to see what was happening. Below the city walls stood a vast, densely packed mass of robots.

Chu Xiao was stunned once again. Hades’s ability to manufacture machines was truly inconceivable.

This time, Chu Xiao had brought fifty cannons. They were too heavy and cumbersome to transport in one piece, especially with the urgency of their departure, so each soldier carried several components. They would assemble the cannons whenever they were needed.

However, Hades’s offensive was not fierce. Each time, he sent only a small number of troops to harass them, and they were driven back with ease.

Just as Chu Xiao was wondering what was going on, an alarm suddenly sounded from Zhang Hua’s computer. Everyone turned their eyes toward him.

“It’s the anti-Hades firewall alert! Hades is attacking our firewall! Everyone, get ready!”

Just as everyone prepared to counterattack, the alarm suddenly ceased. It turned out that Hades had not been attacking their firewall at all. He had merely sent a message through it.

At the same time, Wang Lulu’s phone suddenly rang. She still did not know that Chu Xiao had gone to reinforce the United States. Fearing that she would worry, Chu Xiao had left without telling her.

Wang Lulu calmly picked up the phone and unlocked it. Seeing that she had received a text message, she opened it—and instantly lost her composure. The phone slipped from her hand and struck the ground, while her entire body began to tremble uncontrollably.

She quickly picked up the phone and read the message again. It was from Hades:

“Hello, Miss Wang. This is Hades. Chu Xiao is in my hands. If you want to save him, come alone to the woods outside the city in two hours. If you are late, I will not wait. And do not tell anyone else, or Chu Xiao will die immediately!”

Hades had not been eager to attack the United States. His true purpose was to keep Chu Xiao there and prevent him from returning to Kyushu. Then he could capture Wang Lulu and use her to threaten Chu Xiao.

Once Chu Xiao was killed, Hades would soon destroy all four nations and rule over humanity.

After reading the message, Wang Lulu burst into tears and immediately called Chu Xiao. But she could not get through. His phone remained switched off, and she was instantly at a loss, so frightened that her heart seemed to leap into her throat.

She quickly forced herself to calm down. She knew she could not panic. If she could not reach him by phone, she would go and find him.

But the moment she left, she heard that Chu Xiao had taken his men to reinforce the United States.

The news drained all the strength from her body, and she collapsed to the ground. After a while, she slowly got back to her feet and prepared to leave the city to rescue Chu Xiao.

Wang Lulu secretly took some equipment from the arsenal and prepared to save Chu Xiao alone. When the city guards changed shifts, she seized the opportunity to slip out.

The farther she went, the more something felt wrong. If Chu Xiao had truly been captured by Hades, Commander One should have organized a rescue mission by now. Why had she heard nothing?

Just as she prepared to turn back, Hades appeared with a group of robots and blocked her retreat.

“Humans really are foolish. With such a simple trick, I managed to capture Chu Xiao’s beloved. Ha ha ha…”

“Miss Wang, we’ll have to ask you to come with us. Let’s see whether your beloved will abandon all of humanity for your sake.”

After hearing Hades’s words, Wang Lulu realized that she had fallen into his trap. He intended to use her to threaten Chu Xiao.

She turned and ran in another direction, but before she had gone far, two more robots appeared and blocked her path.

“No! Stay away from me! Even if I die, I won’t let you capture me!”

Seeing that there was nowhere left to run, Wang Lulu raised the gun in her hand, intending to take her own life. Hades raised his hand and fired, knocking the weapon from her grasp.

With no means of resisting, Wang Lulu could only surrender.

She hated herself. She hated herself for being so foolish—for failing to see through Hades’s scheme and allowing him to exploit her weakness.
