Wang Yan soon caught the savory smell of roasted meat. Chu Xiao handed her a rabbit leg, and she began devouring it with huge bites. The way she ate reminded Chu Xiao of Wang Lulu.

Wang Lulu had eaten exactly the same way back then, gobbling her food down without the slightest trace of feminine delicacy. Chu Xiao could not help wondering whether all girls like them ate meat that way.

“Why are you staring at me? Aren’t you going to eat?”

Wang Yan was puzzled by the way Chu Xiao looked at her, as though he had never seen her before. Although his eyes were fixed on Wang Yan, his thoughts were on Wang Lulu.

“It’s nothing. You just reminded me of someone. Come on, let’s eat.”

Chu Xiao came back to himself. Wang Yan had already guessed whom he was thinking about, and she suddenly lost her appetite. A trace of disappointment settled in her heart, but she still did not give up on her feelings for Chu Xiao.

After they had eaten their fill, Chu Xiao told Wang Yan to sleep while he kept watch in case danger appeared. Wang Yan, claiming that she was cold, leaned against his shoulder.

At three in the morning, Chu Xiao heard someone calling out to him and Wang Yan. He woke her, and together they called back to the people who had come to find them.

“Lieutenant General Chu! Captain Wang! We finally found you! Number One has been worried sick!”

The search party had spent the entire night looking for Chu Xiao and Wang Yan. Number One had not slept either; everyone had been deeply concerned about them.

“Let’s go. Take me back. I need to see Number One.”

Chu Xiao was eager to return. He wanted to check on the progress of extracting the meteorite, and after Wang Lulu had been gone for so many days, he had been unable to stop worrying about her.

Chu Xiao followed them back to Pearl City and met with Number One. From him, he learned that Wang Lulu had come every day while he was away to ask about the situation.

During the days when Chu Xiao had been out of contact, Wang Lulu had wept constantly. She had gone several nights without sleep, waiting there for news of him.

Only after contact with Chu Xiao had finally been restored did she return home to rest, persuaded by Number One. She was probably still asleep at that very moment.

“How is Hades?”

“There hasn’t been any major movement these past few days, but there have been two harassment attacks.”

Chu Xiao was uneasy that Hades had remained so quiet for so long. He feared that they were plotting something. Number One told Chu Xiao to go to the hospital for a thorough examination.

“Have you found the space capsule?”

“Yes. The meteorite is already on its way back.”

Only then did Chu Xiao relax. He and Wang Yan went to the hospital for a series of examinations. Wang Yan was fine, but Chu Xiao was kept there for two days of observation.

When Wang Lulu woke up and learned that Chu Xiao had returned, she was overjoyed and hurried to the hospital to see him. But when she saw him lying in bed, she thought he was dying.

Tears immediately filled her eyes. She cried out Chu Xiao’s name, but the doctor who tried to come over and explain could not make himself heard over her sobbing.

“I’m not dead yet. What are you crying for, silly girl? I was only asleep!”

Woken by Wang Lulu’s cries, Chu Xiao opened his eyes and saw her sprawled over the head of the bed, weeping.

“I thought you…”

Before she could finish, Wang Lulu threw herself into Chu Xiao’s arms and burst into tears. The doctor who had come to examine Chu Xiao’s injuries saw the scene and, not wishing to disturb them, quietly left.

As Chu Xiao comforted Wang Lulu, Wang Yan pushed open the door with a lunchbox in her hands. She was extremely embarrassed when she saw what was happening.

She also felt a little jealous. When Wang Lulu noticed that someone had entered, she pulled herself from Chu Xiao’s arms and hurriedly wiped away her tears.

“Who are you?”

“I’m Chu Xiao’s younger sister, and I was also his comrade on this space mission.”

Wang Lulu vaguely remembered seeing her on the day they had sent Chu Xiao off. What was she doing here? And why was she carrying food? Suspicion stirred in Wang Lulu’s heart.

“There was a small accident during the landing. Brother Chu Xiao saved me, so I made some food and brought it over to see him.”

Wang Lulu studied Wang Yan. She felt that there was something unusual in the way Wang Yan looked at Chu Xiao, but she did not think too much of it and invited her to sit down.

“Brother Xiao, are you feeling better? I brought some food. Let’s eat together.”

Chu Xiao felt awkward and did not know how to answer. He glanced at Wang Lulu, whose expression had darkened slightly.

“Sure. I haven’t eaten either. You made so much, and it would be a waste not to finish it. Let’s eat together.”

As though she had sensed a threat, Wang Lulu took the lunchbox and sat down to join them. While they ate, she continually picked food up and placed it in Chu Xiao’s bowl.

Wang Yan realized that Wang Lulu was competing with her, so she also began serving Chu Xiao food. Caught between the two women, Chu Xiao had no idea what to do. The meal was filled with tension.

He could tell that Wang Lulu was jealous, but Wang Yan was also a comrade who had fought alongside him and faced death with him. Chu Xiao did not want to offend either of them.

At last, they finished the meal. Wang Yan said goodbye to Chu Xiao and turned to leave. Once she was gone, Wang Lulu looked at him in a way that made him deeply uneasy.

“Tell me. Who is she, and what exactly is the relationship between the two of you?”

“There’s… there’s really nothing between us. I’ve only saved her twice.”

Chu Xiao began to stammer, but it was true that he and Wang Yan had no relationship at all. Wang Lulu clearly did not believe him.

“You’d better have nothing going on with her. If I find out otherwise, you’re finished!”

Wang Lulu usually appeared gentle and delicate, but at that moment she was like a ferocious tiger, ready to devour Chu Xiao at any instant.

Chu Xiao could no longer stand being confined to the hospital, so he asked Wang Lulu to take him to the factory. Ever since returning, he had been eager to see how the work was progressing.

When they arrived, they found Ren Boyuan there as well. Ren Boyuan was delighted to see Chu Xiao.

“Lieutenant General Chu, welcome back. We were all worried about your safety. Now that we can see you’re full of energy, we can finally put our minds at ease.”

Ren Boyuan then briefly explained the progress of the past few days. Extracting the meteorite was extremely troublesome, and progress had been painfully slow.

“Have the weapons been produced?”

“Some have been made, but mass production will still require more time.”

Chu Xiao knew that the meteorite was unlike ordinary materials and that extracting its power would be particularly difficult. Even so, he had not expected the work to proceed so slowly.

“Take me to see what the finished weapon can do.”

Chu Xiao was eager to discover how powerful the new weapon really was. He and Wang Lulu went to the firing range.

As before, an iron plate and a titanium-alloy plate had been set up in the distance. The first shot pierced straight through the iron plate. But the second shot astonished Chu Xiao even more.

It had pierced the titanium alloy as well. It had not gone through instantly as the iron plate had, but the ability to penetrate titanium alloy made all their hard work over the past several days worthwhile.

“Number One has ordered that Lieutenant General Chu should name the weapon.”

“Since it harnesses the power of the sun, let’s call it the Sun’s Power.”

Chu Xiao then asked about upgrading the weapon. Ren Boyuan told him that the work was nearly complete. Both its range and its power were now far greater than before.
