Chapter 137: Suspecting Dell!
Afterward, Chu Xiao called Mu Keyan and Dell down for a meal. Throughout the meal, Chu Xiao kept his eyes fixed on Dell, leaving Dell completely bewildered.
"Commander-in-Chief, why are you staring at me like that? Am I more attractive than your beloved?"
Dell asked with a smile. Chu Xiao suddenly snapped out of his trance. At this moment, Chu Xiao indeed felt that Dell was more captivating than Wang Lulu, as there were simply too many unsolved mysteries surrounding him.
After dinner, everyone returned to their respective rooms. Chu Xiao tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep as his mind raced with thoughts about Dell, and dawn broke before he knew it.
True to form, Dell got up early once again and quietly slipped out of the room. This action only deepened Chu Xiao's suspicion, making him increasingly convinced that Dell was shady.
Chu Xiao quickly followed him outside and watched as Dell leisurely strolled over to a vegetable stall, chatted with the owner for a moment, and then walked away. He then strolled up to a fish vendor, exchanged a few words, and moved on.
Curious, Chu Xiao walked up to the two vendors and asked what Dell had said to them. Both replied that he had simply asked about the prices and how business was going.
There was nothing unusual about this, but Chu Xiao did not shake off his suspicions, assuming it was just a smokescreen. He continued to tail Dell, but Dell did nothing more than wander around and look at things.
No problems could be detected whatsoever. Chu Xiao questioned the vendors one by one, and their answers were virtually identical. These vendors had been running their businesses here for decades and were honest, genuine merchants with nothing to hide.
Having finished his stroll, Dell began heading back. As he passed a trash can, he pulled a scrap of paper from his pocket and threw it inside. This action instantly caught Chu Xiao's attention.
Once Dell had walked far enough away, Chu Xiao went over to the trash can, fished out the scrap of paper, and unfolded it, only to find it was completely blank. Assuming it might have been written with invisible ink, Chu Xiao pocketed it to see if he could decipher it later.
Chu Xiao followed Dell back to the villa. Along the way, aside from the crumpled piece of paper, he found nothing out of the ordinary, and the paper itself looked like nothing more than an ordinary, blank sheet.
"Commander-in-Chief, you have a habit of going out for morning walks too?"
Seeing Chu Xiao trailing behind him as he returned, Dell assumed he shared the same routine and even invited Chu Xiao to go together next time.
Back in his room, Chu Xiao took out the paper ball and tested it with various chemical solutions, but yielded no results. He then soaked the paper in water for a while, yet still no characters appeared.
Chu Xiao wondered if he had wronged Dell after all and if he wasn't a spy for the Underworld King. However, Dell's actions were undeniably strange, so Chu Xiao decided to continue his observation.
Just then, Chu Xiao's phone suddenly rang. He picked up his phone, saw that the call was coming from Number One, and swiped to answer. Number One's voice sounded hoarse and low.
"The Underworld King's movements this time are highly unusual. It's as if he can accurately predict your every move!"
Sure enough, Number One had also sensed that something was wrong and called to inquire about the situation. True to his reputation, Number One knew of their every action despite being thousands of miles away.
"I've sensed it too, but without evidence, I didn't dare to make a fuss. I believe that mole is right among us."
Chu Xiao certainly did not disappoint Number One. Number One instructed Chu Xiao not to act rashly until he had concrete evidence, and assured him that he could mobilize all of Kyushu's resources if necessary.
Clearly, Number One trusted Chu Xiao implicitly. After all, having fought against the Underworld King for so long, if there truly was a traitor, it certainly wouldn't be him.
"Understood, Chief Number One. I will continue to observe in secret."
After hanging up the phone, Chu Xiao gazed at the blank paper once more, still unable to fathom the mystery hidden within. He tried heating the paper, but still found no clues.
Meanwhile, the Underworld King was assembling a massive army, preparing to launch an attack on Ouqiang. However, Ouqiang, Kyushu, and America formed a strategic triangular defense formation; no matter which one was attacked, the other two nations would rush to provide support at maximum speed.
Therefore, the Underworld King decided to rely primarily on aerial forces this time, prioritizing high mobility so they could retreat the moment reinforcements arrived.
Back at the villa, Chu Xiao and the others were holding a meeting to discuss defense strategies. Utilizing the advantageous terrain of the three allied nations, they decided to plant trip-wire mines ten kilometers outside the borders of all three countries. The moment the Underworld King's robotic units triggered these mines, the other nations would be alerted to reinforce immediately.
To counter the Underworld King's air power, Chu Xiao suggested adding infrared alarm systems just behind the trip-wire mines, eliminating any fear of enemy aerial raids. Without the schematic diagrams of the defense mechanisms, the Underworld King would have no way of breaking through in a short period, no matter what tactics he used.
Everyone agreed that Chu Xiao's plan was feasible, so they sprang into action, contacting their respective governments to implement the measures as quickly as possible.
Chu Xiao also called Wang Tao, urging him to arrange the deployment of the defensive lines as soon as possible. Although Wang Tao was a general, Chu Xiao was currently the Alliance Commander-in-Chief. Nominally, Wang Tao's military rank was higher than Chu Xiao's, but he would faithfully execute whatever Chu Xiao ordered.
Furthermore, Chu Xiao's actual authority now far exceeded Wang Tao's. Rather than commanding in a dictatorial tone, Chu Xiao consulted with Wang Tao to identify any remaining loopholes so they could be patched up promptly.
Every nation went into action, and soon messages poured in confirming that all defensive preparations were complete. Chu Xiao's implementation of this plan was, in truth, also a test to see whether there was a traitor among them.
If the Underworld King happened to know their deployment details, it would prove that the mole was definitely one of them. Chu Xiao resolved to keep a tight leash on Dell, whom he suspected the most.
Consequently, over the next few days, Chu Xiao devoted almost all his energy to watching Dell, staying practically inseparable from him and following him wherever he went.
"Commander-in-Chief, let's go! It's time to head out and take a walk together!"
Dell's invitation left Chu Xiao momentarily stunned, completely failing to understand what was going on. Dell was actually taking the initiative to come find him for a morning stroll!
Chu Xiao's mind was filled with a flurry of questions. If Dell were a traitor, why would he actively seek him out? Yet, he remained the prime suspect. Could it be that he had guessed Chu Xiao was suspecting him and was therefore eager to clear his name?
Carrying a head full of questions, Chu Xiao walked out of his room and saw that Dell was dressed impeccably, looking as though he were attending a high-society cocktail party.
"Commander-in-Chief, take me to the park for a stroll today, shall we?"
Dell took the initiative to propose visiting the park. This time of day was peak hours for morning exercises, making the area quite crowded. Could Dell be going there to meet a contact?
"Alright. Ever since the Underworld King awakened, I haven't been to the park either. This is a great opportunity to take a look around."
Chu Xiao decided to play along to see what new tricks Dell might pull. All the way there, Chu Xiao kept his eyes locked on Dell, not missing a single trace of suspicious activity—even when Dell crouched down to tie his shoelaces, Chu Xiao scrutinized him for any hidden moves.
Upon arriving at the park, they found many people engaged in morning exercises, mostly elderly citizens practicing Tai Chi, wielding Tai Chi swords, or jogging.
Dell walked toward the most crowded area, asking the elderly people about their health and longevity. These inquiries seemed innocent enough, but right at that moment, an argument broke out between two old men nearby, and Dell quickly strode over toward them.
