Chapter Thirty-three: The Mega Ultra Supersonic Water Gun!
“Does the Chief Commander know about this?” Wang Zhi asked in a low voice. If the Chief Commander had already given permission, he naturally dared not object.
“He doesn’t know. You just keep watch here. Once I’ve developed the weapon, I’ll come out on my own,” Chu Xiao replied, enunciating each word. He wanted to finish developing the weapon as quickly as possible; otherwise, when Hades awakened, what weapon would he have for a direct confrontation?
“Yes, sir!” At this point, he could only report to the Chief Commander later and see what he thought.
Chu Xiao cast a faint glance at Wang Zhi before turning and leaving.
No sooner had Chu Xiao entered and closed the door than the Chief Commander arrived.
“Where’s Chu Xiao?” he asked, looking at Wang Zhi.
Wang Zhi stammered, unsure how to respond.
“Speak!” The Chief Commander’s gaze grew cold and sharp.
Wang Zhi quickly gathered his thoughts and recounted everything that had just happened.
After hearing him out, the Chief Commander’s expression remained impassive, calm as still water, betraying no emotion—no one could tell what he was thinking.
Standing by, Wang Zhi felt a chill run through him.
At length, the Chief Commander broke the silence. “Let him be. If anything truly happens, I’ll hold you personally responsible.”
“You’re to assign people to look after him. Whatever he needs, you must provide. Take care of his meals and his rest! I’m entrusting his well-being to you!” The Chief Commander had meant to stop after the first sentence, but he couldn’t help adding a few words of concern.
He knew Chu Xiao was doing all this to gain an edge in the looming confrontation with Hades, but he couldn’t help worrying about Chu Xiao’s health.
The Chief Commander’s words surprised Wang Zhi, but he soon regained his composure. He understood that the Chief Commander shared his concerns.
“Rest assured, sir. I will look after Director Chu with the utmost care!” Wang Zhi saluted, his bearing as upright and steadfast as a mountain, embodying unwavering determination.
The Chief Commander nodded in satisfaction. “Good. I’m leaving him to you. Remember, you’re responsible not only for Chu Xiao, but for all of Kyushu’s safety!”
This final sentence added even more weight to Wang Zhi’s shoulders.
“Yes, sir!” Wang Zhi saluted again, his posture now tinged with solemnity.
Chu Xiao devoted himself entirely to his research, working day and night without the slightest delay.
In order to discover what kind of bullet could quickly penetrate titanium alloy, he ate only one meal a day and slept just four hours.
Chu Xiao had already tested both lasers and ordinary bullets. To pierce a sheet of titanium alloy would take a very long time.
By his calculations, a laser would require about thirty shots, while a regular bullet would take around sixty. And that was if every shot hit the same spot—hardly feasible in battle. If the machines were more complex, targeting a single spot would be even less likely.
Hades’ first-generation machines were manageable, but the second and third generations would be unpredictable.
Moreover, Hades produced machines much faster than humans could manufacture weapons!
Currently, only ten thousand laser guns had been made. At this rate, by the time Hades awakened, perhaps fifty thousand could be completed. Distributed among the three remaining cities, that meant just fifteen thousand per city—far from enough.
However, the production speed for the tracking machine gun Chu Xiao had designed was much faster. In just a few days, ten thousand had already been produced.
The main components for the tracking machine gun were the bullets and the display goggles, making production relatively simple.
Two hundred thousand bullets had been manufactured, along with ten thousand display goggles. Overall, not bad.
As primary weapons to counter Hades, these could not only effectively strike back, but perhaps even catch the enemy off guard.
This would buy precious time.
But how much time, Chu Xiao could not control. That’s why he had to create even more powerful weapons before Hades awakened.
Now, Chu Xiao had an idea—water.
Everyone knew the power of a water jet cutter; with enough pressure, it could cut even diamond.
So Chu Xiao decided to see if a jet of water could pierce a titanium alloy plate.
He called for Wang Zhi.
“I want to use water to pierce a titanium alloy plate. What do you think?” Chu Xiao asked slowly.
Wang Zhi was utterly stunned by this statement. Using water to pierce titanium alloy? It sounded utterly implausible!
True, water could slowly wear away stone, but the hardness of titanium alloy far surpassed that of water.
“Are you sure?” Wang Zhi asked quietly, skepticism edging his voice.
Chu Xiao nodded. “I’m sure. I believe that with enough pressure, it’s absolutely possible.”
“It’s the same principle as a water jet cutter, isn’t it?”
“All we need now is a way to increase the water pressure!”
“I have a preliminary idea—using ultrasound to boost the water’s pressure!” As Chu Xiao spoke, a strange light flashed in his eyes—a light that could pierce straight through a person’s heart.
Wang Zhi was shaken by that light.
How could the man before him have so many wild, even fantastical ideas?
But Wang Zhi believed that Chu Xiao was a man who could turn the impossible into reality.
“Alright! I’ll go find the equipment!” Wang Zhi hurried off to assemble a team of researchers to help Chu Xiao.
They attached the ultrasonic device to the gun, thus increasing the water pressure.
But a new problem arose: there wasn’t enough water, and water was heavy—wasteful, and difficult to carry in large amounts.
“Wait!” Chu Xiao realized the issue and called a halt.
Everyone turned to look at him in surprise, wondering what had happened.
Chu Xiao said nothing, merely pressing his lips together and frowning deeply. “The plan is feasible, but it has a major flaw.”
“This kind of water gun wastes too much water. If the soldiers run out, they won’t be able to attack again. If we connect the gun to a hose, mobility is lost, and their combat range is limited.”
“In that case, why not go big? Build a cannon! The force of a water cannon may not be enough to destroy them, but its sheer power could instantly knock them down, buying precious time!”
“In close combat, grenades could also be used, but their impact can’t match that of water. And if a grenade’s charge isn’t properly controlled, it might even backfire!”
“Water, on the other hand, can be recycled. We wouldn’t have to worry about wastage!”
“What do you all think? This time, I want to build an unprecedented ultrasonic water cannon, installed at fixed positions in every city! We don’t need too many.”
Wang Zhi was left speechless—how did Chu Xiao come up with such ideas? And not only that, how could he consider every angle so thoroughly?
Everyone around was just as astounded as Wang Zhi.
