Chapter Sixty-Six: Perfect Carter

The entire cavern continued to shake violently. Liu Shaoyu, watching the scene unfold before him, couldn’t help but cry out in astonishment. Carter had just made a high-speed move to evade the monster’s attack, but as she appeared at her new position, the creature’s tail was already sweeping toward her.

Carter had barely dodged the sharp spikes from its head, and before she could steady herself, she sensed a powerful gust behind her—a tail attack from the rear, and in front of her, the monster’s bristling, barbed legs. Carter was caught in a dilemma, unable to advance or retreat.

Just as Liu Shaoyu thought Carter was about to suffer a heavy blow, a subtle, almost careless smile appeared on Carter’s face.

In a flash, a gleam of light appeared in Carter’s hand. Only when her form came to a complete halt did Liu Shaoyu realize that, at some point, Carter had produced a particle-cutting dagger.

Turning his attention to the monster, Liu Shaoyu saw it begin to lose balance, one leg injured.

It turned out, in that split-second, Carter hadn’t chosen to counter the tail attack behind her. Instead, she used the dagger to confront the monster’s barbed forelegs. The collision of forces, combined with the dagger’s cutting edge, wounded the creature’s foreleg, causing blue liquid to stream out. The sudden pain made the monster lose its center, and the tail attack missed its mark.

What amazed Liu Shaoyu even more was that, despite being nearly a hundred times larger than Carter, the monster’s strength was not superior to her seemingly frail body.

No wonder she’d been dragging him along earlier... Liu Shaoyu’s understanding of Carter was once again overturned.

In the battle against Carter, the monster’s size brought it no advantage. On the contrary, Carter’s petite frame, speed, and formidable strength led to new wounds blooming across the creature’s body.

Yet Liu Shaoyu frowned inwardly. At this rate, it was impossible to tell when the monster would finally be killed.

He realized now that this beast was the guardian of the tomb—the so-called boss.

According to convention… such a boss wouldn’t rely solely on its physical form; there would be other deadly tricks. Carter wouldn’t have called it dangerous otherwise.

What could it be? Liu Shaoyu watched intently. At this level of combat, there was little he could do.

Setting aside the difference in size, just based on Carter’s earlier mention of using the disease mineral to evolve, Liu Shaoyu was certain the guardian would use the ice mineral to evolve as well.

Having just dodged a wave of attacks, Carter wasn’t in great shape. Unlike Liu Shaoyu, Carter knew much more about the monster before her. Liu Shaoyu’s guess was correct: this beast was dangerous not merely because of its size.

But for Carter, such danger was only a minor threat. After all, Carter was an empress—the Zerg Queen!

Everything Carter had done so far was not in vain.

The monster’s body was already covered in countless small wounds, inflicted by Carter’s rapid movements. The creature now hated Carter with a burning vengeance. So small, so elusive, and yet it had been battered and bruised! Even a clay figurine would get angry—let alone this creature!

Finally, as Carter was about to sever its tail, the monster erupted in fury.

A furious roar echoed through the cavern. Even Liu Shaoyu, on a lower level, could feel its rage. Carter had been waiting for this moment. What are the Zerg best at?

Let’s not forget how that shipful of people met their end.

“I’ve been waiting for you,” Carter said, licking her lips with a seductive air.

No sooner had she spoken than the monster’s pupils shrank sharply, as if resisting some unknown threat. Its massive body trembled even more violently.

Carter’s pupils now shimmered with a faint violet light. Liu Shaoyu couldn’t see this, only that the fierce battle suddenly came to a halt. The scene was eerily strange.

Activating electromagnetic scans, Liu Shaoyu suddenly understood. Psychic attack! The electromagnetic interference from the scanning source reached an extreme. The holographic display turned to streaks of black snow, reminiscent of an ancient black-and-white television.

Boom! Another intense tremor, accompanied by a deafening sound.

“Is it over?” Liu Shaoyu wondered aloud. The answer came not from her lips, but directly into his mind.

“Come up. I’ll take you to find something good.” Carter’s voice was no longer cold, but gentle and weak.

Liu Shaoyu was stunned, then quickly regained his composure. With mental transmission so advanced, it was normal to send voices directly. Activating his armor’s engine, Liu Shaoyu passed through the dome, finally seeing the full extent of the upper level.

It was still a semicircular cavern, its area yet again reduced compared to the lower one. Despite the fierce battle, the ground bore not a single crack—only chaos and disarray throughout the cavern.

Ignoring everything else, Liu Shaoyu rushed straight to Carter.

Carter’s eyes had returned to a blue-violet hue, no longer glowing. Faint dark veins around her eyes hadn’t faded, giving the impression of bulging veins.

“Are you alright?” Liu Shaoyu asked anxiously, his gaze scanning Carter for any outward sign of trouble.

Carter was clearly surprised that Liu Shaoyu would be concerned about her, expecting him to ask something else first.

“If something happens to me, would you be very sad?” Carter replied with a smile.

Her smile made Liu Shaoyu’s heart flutter. In truth, Carter’s human form was undeniably beautiful—delicate features, a pointed oval face, and paler skin, giving her an almost dreamlike aura.

Pulling himself together, Liu Shaoyu felt his face flush…

“Haha, so even the handsome little human can get shy. I’m fine, let’s go.” Carter, sensing the shift in his mental state, grinned mischievously.

“As long as you’re alright,” Liu Shaoyu replied, a little embarrassed. He thought to himself, how awkward! For some reason, he always felt a bit… outmatched when facing Carter.

Seeing Carter moving forward, Liu Shaoyu followed.

In fact, it wasn’t just Liu Shaoyu; anyone would find themselves at a loss with Carter. The unnatural release of her psychic power lent an air of pressure to every word and gesture. Compared to humans, whose brain development was still in its infancy, they were hopelessly outclassed.

The two continued upward to the next level. On the ground, only the monster with dulled pupils remained, along with scattered blue crystals.

Clearly, Carter wasn’t interested in these defective remnants.

After ascending three more levels, Carter stopped and spoke, “We’re here.”

Before them stood a simple, ancient archway.
